My sympathies CMDR. On this occasion I would suggest to you that you ask FDev support to restore your losses and put your ship back at the location you were destroyed. I'm pretty sure they would be willing to do that. Don't let people like that get to you, they're really not worth it. Oh and do check out CMDR Ziljan's excellent guide to avoiding destruction in Open, it's awfully worth reading.

Finally, do not go exploring in Open unless you are ready for such attacks. The gankers have declared their objective to 'own' Open play, it kinda tickles their egos. Look into joining Mobius, or use Solo.

Seriously? Clutter support with this? All your other advices are sound, but asking support to restore a ship not lost to a glitch or bug, but to a legimitate gameplay part?

I disagree.

The user clearly must have put great effort into getting to Sag A, and was clearly focused on enjoying the DW2 event. He was also quite unaware of the dangers represented by the fine folks of DG2. In this particular case I do not consider it inappropriate that he should get a free pass, as many others have done.

Frontier could easily solve all these problems by renaming "Open" to "PvP" and creating a new "PvE" mode that installs a Pilots Federation friend-or-foe module (similar to Horizon's planetary landing module) that prevents weapons* from firing on other CMDRs. Every other MMO I've played makes a clear distinction between PvP and PvE, and I really don't understand why Frontier refuses to do this for ED. And no, Mobius is not the same as built-in PvE game mode.

Until this this happens, I recommend everyone put a sticky note on their monitor that says, "Open = PvP". Assuming the OP is new to the game, then I understand his frustration for not realizing this, but ultimately the blame is on Frontier, not the "distant jerk" who is just playing the game that Frontier created.

* they can also add various handwaivum to prevent ramming and other forms of PvP assault.

Am I the only one grateful this post isn't about the debris I'm leaving scattered all over the space stations where I'm trying to dock?

I think by now most have figured out that you are a wolf in sheep's clothing, luring poor CMDRs to their doom! ;)
I'm honestly not a wolf in sheep's clothing.
I can prove it to you; meet me in open space sometime.

:)

Truth is, right now I'm in the challenge landing tutorial learning how to fly without FA.
I'm not even leaving debris in the open world yet - at this rate, it will probably be a month before I set foot out there.

What problems are you talking about ?

Actual Open is not PvP only nor PvE only. It is just Open with its rules and mechanics set by FDev and players expectations or desires have no effect on them. Open is already a PvE mode but it is not restricted to it.
If you want to restrict the game possibilities and your experience, FDev already provided solo/PG modes.

Also, every other MMO are not running the limiting stupid game and network design ED is using ; aka different playing field impacting a shared BGS over P2P network. That's why this game will never have deep and meaningful gameplay & player driven content. OOPP is not possible : 3 different Open Mode with x different instances (+ block function) and fleet carrier will probably be nothing more than a squadron beacon with limited interaction through grind and simplistic braindead gameplay loop.
WoW PvE Tichondrius-US server has no impact on WoW PvE-PvP Archimonde-EU server which also has no impact on any other WoW server. Is it the same in ED ? Nope.

Frustration comes from player's lack of knowledge and wrong expectations from the game. It is on them because we are all equally able to play the game that Frontier created.

You answered your own question. However, I disagree with the notion that "it is on them" because Frontier uses the nice, friendly term "Open" to describe a game mode where you can be instantly killed your first hour playing the game by an end-game "boss", and unlike other games where dying has very little consequences (you just start over like Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt), dying in ED can cost the player hours if not days of hard work. Heck, if you don't want to call Open "PvP", at least call it something a bit more truthful to what it is - like "Dangerous Mode" or "Hardcore Mode" or "You are going to fricken die, so don't complain when you do Mode".

Open is fine.

It's the tourist traps that you have to watch out for.

I was doing a tour of the engineers in my sidewinder today. Saw more CMDRs than I can be bothered counting, and the biggest piece of grief I had to deal with was Selene Jean repeatedly telling me to land on pad 01 and refusing to give me any other despite the fact that there was an NPC adder parked on it.
I did see a player corvette hanging around in supercruise in Wyrd after I took off to fetch another ship from the orbital, and he did turn to try and intercept me, but... yanno. He's in a corvette and I'm in a sidewinder. I flew around him in circles and didn't let him get behind me. Eventually led him out into the black, did a 180, blasted past him, and was happily behind the planet and on approach to the station by the time he was turned around.
The best way to avoid an interdiction is to not allow the minigame to even start.

Looking at your avatar, you are a sheep in wolf's clothing [haha]

BTW, I've made a note of the fact that you've been mocking me.
I plan to crash a Sidewinder into the side of your favorite station.

Don't dare to ask the developers to replace it, either, as you clearly had it coming.

We don't want people like you in open play either. This is an effective filter to seperate certain people.
As harsh as it sounds, most of the PvP community is getting sick of the tourists that only take screenahots and complain about getting destroyed ahen they have no shields or any other kind of defense. No, your expectation of social interaction certainly is not a defense mechanism.

You don't get to choose who plays in Open. You can PvP in Open but that doesn't mean Open belongs to PvP. OP can play however he likes.

PvPers are the moderators of Open. They can't kick players with admin tools, but they can still cull them out if you catch my drift. Open belongs to PvPers who then graciously allow everyone else who wants to play in their mode to remain. Don't worry, we're a lot more inclusive then other groups which are characterized by their snobbery, such as Fleetcomm.

You're welcome.
