Sorry, but I don't feel any sympathy for you. You have to be living under a rock not to expect danger at a hot spot. Be prepared, learn how to escape. These threads pop up weekly, yet so many still flying with their heads in the sand.

PvPers are the moderators of Open. They can't kick players with admin tools, but they can still cull them out if you catch my drift. Open belongs to PvPers who then graciously allow everyone else who wants to play in their mode to remain. Don't worry, we're a lot more inclusive then other groups which are characterized by their snobbery, such as Fleetcomm.

You're welcome.

Well at least you're finally admitting that PvPers are ruining "culling" Open :p

Your honor, I rest my case!

Missed the start of DW2 due to life events.

Arrived in Sag A* after a 20,000+ly trip (plus days of outfitting and grinding robigo for a conda + engineering for jump). Five seconds after I land in the system, as I'm taking my first screenshot - interdicted and immediately destroyed. No warnings, no demands, no jokes, just immediate death.

I spawn back at my last dock home base in the bubble, 26,000 miles away.

I understand this is a 'legal' gameplay move, but people like you are the reason to not play 'open play'.

I understand your disappointment, but you are the one that chose to play in Open.
Would you complain about getting wet if you took a swim in the sea?
Open is Open.

For many people this type of gameplay is not what they enjoy, and they choose Solo or Group for that reason.
A completely legitimate choice, but... you did choose Open yourself and you took the risk.

I don't do multiplayer myself ever... not in any game, including Elite. I do not enjoy the interaction.
In Elite though I have played in Open for a long, long time and got destroyed twice. It came with the territory.
I took the risk and would never complain about the consequences of that risk.

You have my sympathies OP.

I see that this is your first post, so you may not have been aware of all of the talk on the forums regarding this behaviour. It would seem that some players are claiming to role play nasty pilots. That is of course their own prerogative and is in fact seen as legitimate gameplay within the rules, but I dare to say that some might be taking the meta too far and also playing it on the forums too.

Come on guys, if you cannot show some form of sympathy for the CMDR, please at least try and offer some courtesy to the human behind it?

I'd take advice from "Captain Jack Sparrow" very cautiously, if I was a carebear, hah

I hope to one day be feared, but right now, I only pirate NPC's. My head to head win % against fighting humans is not too good. But my escape % is like 99%. Although I did take down a ganker in a phantom 2 weeks ago who had killed a friend of mine who was just trying to get to shinrarta.

The thing about ED is that it reflects life in many ways, including the dumpsters who have decided to be idiots with no moral or ethics. To those of you who support that behavior: Are you equally stupid in real life? Or are you just trying to be something that you've always wanted to be without having the guts to be so?

Hey Ryan, I want to nominate this guy for the Saltiest Peanut Of The Day award.

I don't play Open in real life either. :)

But... to compare a game, that for a big part is about spaceship combat, to real life.... meh...
Unless of course you do a lot of spaceship combat in real life too.

There are many theories about ethics, and some might be slightly complicated to understand, but here's a good place to begin:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Rule

(It's ok to read it more than once)

I love Yamicks for his videos and his pranks, but you see, there's a difference between acting stupidly destructive and pulling pranks. That goes for real life and any online game as well. Some get it, others don't have the capacity for understanding it...

Over roger and out

The 'moral' or 'ethical' claims are out of bounds, IMHO.

I say that because the game is designed for PvP and offers PvP free zones for those that find it offensive.
Your claim here is akin to sitting down to a game of chess and then being offended when the other guy starts knocking pawns off the board.

I think you should put down the book on ethics and fully read and understand the ruleset of a game before purchase.
Again, to claim the other guys... who are following the rules... are immoral is ridiculous.

When it comes to garbage arm chair psychology I’m grateful Real Life doesn’t have swear filter.

To be condescending is just bad form. It tells a lot about you.

And to come up with something as utterly simplistic as the golden rule in this context is not very convincing. Is that the depth of your argument?
There's ethics in games and there's ethics in real life. There is an overlap, but they are not the same.

I am vehemently against griefing and ganking.
I have never done so myself, and would never do so, and one of the reasons that I have not partaken in multiplayer for several decades is that I perceive other humans in games to be mostly toxic. I do not want anything to do with that.

In Elite I have come to accept that choosing Open is choosing jungle-mode.
In contact with other players anything can happen and complaining about it is as pointless as complaining about the wetness of the sea.
That is why we have two other modes.

As I wrote: ED reflects real life in so many ways. Personally I've always wanted to go and see the Universe up close, and I'm just fine in SP.

However, I don't think that "complaining" about this is pointless. Actually I'm not trying to complain. I'm trying to get some common basic sense into some heads that seems incapable of containing it, but never give up ya kno. (There I go patronizing again ;))

I see open play as a possibility for many people to live out space dreams, and I do understand that some peoples wettest dream is to be an ....... I just believe they are plain wrong.

And yes, I wish people weren't so toxic. Both in real life and whenever they get the chance to start all over, like role playing in ED or whatever. I also wish that the censorship was less strict. Then I would certainly use other words.

If you already know the Golden Rule, what's your argument against it?
