Am I the only one who thought we would get new payed content in Q1 of 2019?

Am I?

Because they said Beyond will mostly be a YEAR of QoL improvements, some sort of preparation for the next big thing which should arrive after the 4th and final update.

The fact I don't visit the forums on a regular basis might have something to do with my delusions about new content release schedule...
But after I read the ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT™ I was shocked by the number 2020 and by the lack of any details about that game changing stuff that will come.

Anyway, turns out Beyond was not over after one year, it will in fact last 2.5 years total. If not even longer.
I really didn't see that coming.
Silly me.

No your not the only one I personally thought it wouldnt be until around Q4 but as long as we get it and its good I could care less when its released. 2020 isnt as far away as you think it is.

Yes, I'm surprise we aren't getting mission packs stuff.

At this point I'm not surprise the next big update will take over 2 years to complete, both legs and atmospheric planets are gigantic projects and only two of them could be called a new era.

On the bright side, the periodic 'updates' every few months until the Big 2020 are (unless I have misunderstood this) entirely free again.

Some forum contributors refer to mission packs, but I don't think these are based on fact, are they?

Definitely not the only one. The people who say they didn't are mostly newcomers or mid term players who still have a lot of content to digest.

However you put it, ED is not this company's priority.

I didnt expect it at all. As soon as they delayed the content scheduled for 2018, I stated in several places that the next update would be another delay. As they were preparing to end the life of the game in 2021 based on page 50 if their 2018 shareholder report, I had no doubt in my mind that continually promising future content with vague terms was their way of keeping the cash shop open a little longer without putting actual, promised work in.

Turns out that, sadly, I was right.

Of course, some actual solid gameplay set in space itself might be nice at some point of course... I mean, 25yrs ago I was doing stuff like escorting a convoy of ships in X-Wing, with a wing of NPC fighters, and taking part in nice tactical combat scenarios. Hopefully one day ED can offer such ground breaking mechanics as that, from 25 YEARS AGO. No rush... :O

And let's not even point out how that lack of combat scenario gameplay and depth has basically left so much of the rest of the game limping to some degree. ie: Consider how the Thargoid Invasion in truth offer so few opportunities for interesting gameplay. The fact there's no combat scenario mechanics of note to leverage is a key reason for this issue IMHO. And consider if/when we get these new Mission Packs, what mechanics will they have to leverage? Take X to Y with a nice voice over?

BUT, yes, atmostpheric landings and space legs could offer new gameplay... But it worries me they being just a shiney new distraction for a while if they are not "deep enough".

They only said announcements for the next big things would arrive after 3.3 not that the new milestones would actually arrive soon after. Then they mentioned work had been ongoing on at least since August on the new milestone work, separate from Beyond. That ongoing work would likely take closer to 2 years can be seen as good news that Frontier is willing to invest in a major upgrade comparable to a full scale new franchise project which I suspect the good numbers and activity from the holiday season culminating with the 25th anniversary reinforced their decision. Basically it's wait for something better and not really longer than waiting for Starfield or Cyberpunk 2077 to finish development. And unlike the SC-ponzi, it'll just be a onetime DLC , & free for LEPs. So good to rejoice and be patient.

I thought the new CZ scenarios and goals were a nice touch. It did remind me of Xwing except those scenarios can happen in any populated star system within the massive scope of a galactic model. Something the SW games and other spacesim type games haven't quite or have no intention of matching yet. And I don't think 3.3 scenarios is the end of it but a new foundation for more content added outside of the new milestones in the interim future. I have more hope because investment in development resources more than doubled since their new hiring last Q1 and Frontier had consolidated resources and staff in their new building. Looking forward to the new milestones.

I am surprised too but I am sort of grateful. Now I can move on to other things and not have to worry that I am missing something.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised at this.

Were you around for Horizons? It was supposed to be delivered in 1 year and took 2 years instead.

Were you around for Beyond? They dropped carriers from Q4 and claimed they had a "dedicated team" of "over 100 people" working on that for a "full year".

I would be surprized if FD even manages to meet their late 2020 "goal". More likely anything we get will be early 2021 in order to accommodate whatever new IP they might be working on at the time.

I was expecting paid content in Q4 of 2019. I can live with a 6-8 month delay.
