Which ships are you flying and why?

I've been parked up for a while, but today I dusted off and took my (aged) Python and Krait II out for a spin in and around my home system(s).

In my pootling around I have found lots of missions paying 2-4 Mcr, and few paying 8 Mcr. (I am allied with 80% of the factions as I am a creep!)

But now I'm confused - do I sell my Alliance Chieftain or the Challenger, or both? I'm keeping my Krait II, but the Phantom (despite its range) doesn't look like a keeper - not when compared to the DBX.

I'm certainly not selling my Python - the best medium pad ship for any role imho. And my Anaconda hasn't left dock in ages, but I can't bring myself to sell it.

So, what's the point of the thread?

Which ships are you flying and why?

...my DbX because it has an amazing jump range and it feels/looks like a 'roughty toughty' scout ship.
...my Python because it is the best multi-role medium pad ship, bar none.
...my T6 because it is the perfect exemplar of 'form follows function'.
...my FaS because it looks enough like a Dalek to amuse me.... and we will EXTERMINATE!!!!!!!
...my Krait II because I like the paint jobs and the cockpit view.
...my Cobra III because.

So what says you? And why?

Hmmm.... Okay nominate your top 7 ships (in order) and explain why, and I'll collate the results in a while.

Yeah why not - it's just a bit of a laugh!!!!

And while you're at it nominate your worst 3 ships (in order and why).

What's the worst that can happen!!!!

I like your selection except for the FAS :p heres mine not as many as you requested though,

ASP - Main explorer

Imperial Clipper - Main fighter

Type 9 - Main transporter

Imperial Cutter - Multipurpose ship

Python - Medium transport

Orca - Tourist ship

Cobra III as you said; because.

Cobra IV, because I am getting old and the Cobra IIIs speed, is a bit too fast, for me.

F.D.L. for combat ranking. My rank has been stuck at Master 50% for over a year now.

My worse ships? Viper III, because it is a lesser Cobra III and my Clipper, because I can't make it fit my flying style.

The anaconda. Cause it does everything.

I like the asp for exploration tho. And the imperial courier for zippy cool.

Srry if thats not much help :)

Edit: cept medium pads of course. I never found that to be a problem. For pure cash income you cant go wrong with an anni

My worst 3 includes the Asp X. I hated it the moment I got it and it went down hill from there, so I sold it and went back to my A-rated T6 (the best value for money ship in the game!).

The other ships I've sold equally quickly are the Dolphin (actually not a bad ship, but... I don't know....) and the Imperial Eagle (...really, what the heck is the point of this 'bath-duck' ship? - yeah sure it looks pretty, but it's less than its part. Bigly less!)

Krait II is my go-to ship because I've engineered its speed, range and weapons. I've just refitted it to do some mining and it is good enough in that role that I don't need another, and can take on pirates when I need to.

It's excellent for running missions, because you can get to outposts also and it will take a decent load of cargo without serious compromise. Replaces the usefulness of my Python.

It's also flexible for CGs. Run some cargo, then go and fight the pirates for a double payout.

Clipper is fun to fly and look at. It's a fast mission runner if you need the speed for protection against 'curious commanders.'

Cobra IV for low quantity mining - many slots makes it a useful ship when you don't want to spend time accruing big loads.

T-10 for exploration. Great view and big ship feel, carrying everything including the kitchen sink. It's now in place out at Colonia, so I will probably use a Krait II exploration build to reach it again.

DBX for the fast taxi experience. Cheaper and more fun than shipping your ships from A to B. Take the DBX to reach them. Equipped with a SRV and point defence makes it the ideal ship to earn Guardian modules.

Python tank build, for defensive flying through CG blockades.

So for me, it's two Krait IIs,
Clipper
T 10
DBX
Cobra IV
Python

Just started playing a couple weeks ago so a sidewinder, asp explorer and a python.

I work a lot so only get to play a couple hours a day if that. Want to work on doing missions for rank. Plus access to more ships.

4 most used:
DBX. It gets there and back like a pro.
Gunship. It kills things like a pro.
Dropship. Its fugly and kills things like a pro.
Cutter: it hauls the biggest Piles of bio waste.
4 most disliked:
Cheiftain. stats are great, dont like the twitchy feel with my joystick
FDL. I actually use it alot because it's good but I hate it for its god awful cockpit and annoying buzzy boost sound.
Beluga. Not a bad ship really but passenger missions dont make any sense at the moment.
Vulture. It's a good ship but does nothing for me.

Also: I dont own any of the T ships.

Flying:
Krait II - general/mission runner/everything
AspX - mining
Vulture - zap bang (this was where I learned real combat)
Cobra III - original everything ship that I kept because.

Ships I didn't keep:
Viper IV - first miner ship. Used it to get a few cores and then traded up to Keelback.
Keelback - Second miner ship. Could carry more cores at a time but the maneuverability and speed were less than worthless so I got out of that quick for the AspX.
Krait Phantom - Bought as my first medium all-rounder but was soon disappointed by the armaments and traded into Krait II. I really wanted to like the Phantom more since I prefer the look...
Sidewinder - Technically I didn't sell this because it's worth less than zero credits (has a fine) so it's just parked somewhere.

Plan to buy next:
Chieftain - combat ship / bounty hunter. I plan to buy this when I get back home from a very long expedition. Last time I played I was 40 jumps from home and had to knock off so... finally almost home after 4 or 5 weeks with no stations.

I haven't sold a single ship, though I do have a bunch of them collecting dust after a long service (C3, AspX - o7), and some that I picked up based on opportunity and haven't really flown or kitted; like the last time the F_S line had a fire sale, I picked up all three on the back of a Python's BGS work.

I used to run one main ship and one combat ship for a long time, though now I have a dedicated miner (the Python) and a few combat vessels. The combat faves are the Vulture because it's still great to fly even after years, and a fairly tooled up Chieftain to work with some heavier overall firepower. It's mostly the K2 for daily driving though; it's got the handling I want with enough capability to still pull decent haulage missions. Now that the Python is kitted for numining, my Clipper is dusty again. That's the one ship I've had forever (since the Coronation event), but for which I just can't find a lasting role.

I haven't sold a single ship...

I'm with you - I've not sold very many - but equally - there are only a very few I use routinely - and if I was limited to one, it would be the Python.

(...and yes I really really love the Cobra III...)

....sorry to self promote, but I also love the DBS...

Its weapon placement is exceptional, and once you stuff it full of HRP's you have a 'Super Super Eagle' - and that is massive fun in any RES... no matter how often you have to escape with a ruined canopy sucking vapours...

My DbS is called 'Kitty's Got Claws'... ... 'nuff said, right?

Vulture. Hate 'em.

And Vultures hate you. Don't you ever fly one :D

And to reply to the OP:

Vulture: because it's awesome at killing stuff (both in PvP and PvE)
FAS: cuz... why no? :D
FGS: gotta admit... I don't know yet x)

I tried several other ships, but ultimately my main ship was, is and will always be my Vulture I bought over 2 years ago [cool]
