The Open Only Incentive

Ok I didn't know that lol.
I'm not a greifer and our group isn't a greifer group.
It just infuriates me that someone can pop into PG or Solo and start undermining when you know they are on the same platform.

Though I understand the seeming "unfairness" of undermining in PG, I'd urge you to consider a few points :

1) So what if they are? If your counter-strategy is to fly back and forth hoping to instance with them for the sake of PvP (assuming that they are even on the same time as you), then you are already setting yourself up for failure.

2) The only way to counter BGS undermining is to do BGS work of your own. What mode your opponents are in is absolutely irrelevant in most cases.

This tread is not for those that don't want to play open. It's for those that play open ONLY already and would like to be rewarded for playing the hardest way.
Those that play solo/pg and are afraid of losing a few minutes worth of core mining cash and their ego due to a rebuy, well you need to stay in solo/pg. Open is not for you.You are not ready for it.

As for me, I do not grief. I will attack you if you are shown as PP enemy on my screen, or if you are doing something suspicious in the system I reside in. I'm playing the game.
I have an engineered prismatic on my ASP taxi, and another reinforced prismatic on my type-9..I do not get ganked.

This thread is for everyone to comment on, it is a discussion forum, you are not a moderator or censor, you don't get to tell people they can't comment.

Please see the forum rules.

The incentive for open is you get to play with other people.
The incentive for solo / PG is you don't have to play with other people.
Therefore, it's already working as intended and everyone is rewarded.

The kind of people who don't want to play in Open, I don't want them in Open.
In solo because you want to be solo? Great.
In solo because you're afraid of loss? Please stay there.
Got shot down once, pretend it's ten times and lament at people's psychology from the armchair? Get out of the house once in a while. Meet some people. People, not their online profiles.

One way or another the squeaky wheel gets the grease so they either stay in solo, wishing they could socialize or they alter open to suit them and poison it for me with PvP flags/zones, ghost ships and chatrooms.

I wrote the OP and I know better who I wrote it for, than you.

The point of a discussion forum is to get the point of view of as many people as possible, only allowing people who agree with you or hold a certain point of view is counterproductive. A moderator has posted so I shall make no more direct criticism.

Alternative reasons to choose Solo:

* Bandwidth limitations
* Popular spaces are too crowded (no free pads, "overfished" resource extraction sites, etc)
* Serial griefing (same guy kills you over and over while you try to do something like rescue civilians from a burning station)
* Better performance
* No interest in Elite: Facebook

All of those things have applied to me at one point or another. Right now I'm stuck in Solo because of my lack of bandwidth, but even before this was an issue, I stopped doing CGs in Open because it was just too crowded and too slow (stuttering framerate, long supercruise transitions, rubberbanding, etc). Unfortunately ED isn't smart enough to decrease the number of NPCs as the number of players increase, which would go a long way to deal with the traffic jams at starports.

My personal favorite experiences in Open have been group events like the Hutton Orbital Run, but even more than that, I enjoy encountering CMDRs where I do not expect them. My alt-CMDR was stationed out at Lagoon Nebula for weeks, and it always thrilled me to see a hollow rectangle way out there. Same goes for the less popular "outback" worlds in the Bubble. Seeing hollow rectangles at Jameson Memorial, yawn....

Please point out where I said not to comment on it.
I had to clarify what this post is about because the tread is being hijacked by a few, spreading their fantasies about the evil gankers luring them into open.
As it is said by me and others over and over again, that if you want to play solo play solo. We do not want anyone in open that don't want to be in open.

That's it.

That's awesome.
You might want to post it in the "why do I play solo" tread.
This one is about something else.

If you don't want people talking about why they play in solo on "your" thread then perhaps you should refrain from speculating about why people play in solo as this only makes them feel compelled to correct you.

Maybe you should post in Solo if you can't handle and Open forum. Git Gud :p

You come here, ask around what this tread about as if you couldn't have read it yourself, make up fantasies about what this tread is about, complain about what this tread is about and finally talk about something totally different than what this tread is about. And it's me who can't handle open forums...LoL
That's cute

Talk about the OP or the thread will be closed for going off topic.

But it shows up blank for some of us.

:D

There is nothing to read... It appears you posted a video, but not everyone has the bandwidth to watch videos. The subsequent comments make it sounds like the video was a bad idea. All I have to go on is the title, so I replied in a civilized fashion (until you provoked me) as to why "Open Only" is not something everyone wants, regardless of incentive.

That said, I do enjoy a good forum PvP, especially against poster flying shieldless, paper-thin arguments ;)

I see plenty of people in open.

This idea that open in empty and the people who are playing solo are missing out on nothing is concocted by said people to console themselfs. Thats all it is.

Thats all it ever is..
