Does anyone like the Eagle?!

If so sell it to me, because I really don't! Not sure what it's more a case of. The fact it has awful jump range or that it is not an original ship. By that I mean it wasn't in the first Elite. Not that I'm against them adding new ships I just prefer the classic ones.

It was in Frontier and First Encounters...

I didnt like the eagle because its not an original originally, :) and kind of out of place with its jet like features compared to the design of the rest.

I think its pros were much higher in the premium beta, it was the go to combat ship then. Good hardpoint position, and the fastest and most agile.

Since then its a bit nerfed.

But really, for the cost its, its a bargain low end combat ship. You get what you pay for and in this case not that much.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I love the styling and the engine sound. And I have fond memories of it from Frontier. Beyond that.... :D

Haven't tried it myself, as I immediately fell in love with the Viper, but I can say that the Eagle NPC's are the only ones that consistently cause hull damage in a fight. The rest have to be lucky.

I think a lot of it is to do with the AI though, it uses the Eagle in a completely different manner that may just be the rock to my scissors.

I love the styling

It is a beautiful ship with a lovely cockpit. I have only two real complaints about it, the horrendous jump range and the hilariously bad top speed for a pure combat ship. Supposedly both things are being addressed in beta 2. If both problems are solved without creating new ones, I'll probably go back.

I like it a lot, if it wasn´t for the jump range. More speed is needed, too.

It has faster turn rates than the viper, and should be the counter to it. Light Fighters purpose is to kill the heavys normally. With more speed I think it can fullfill that role.

Once they'll fix it for the release it will be a pleasant ship to fly about in.

My only gripe is that IT IS NOT A CORE SHIP.... :D It should be a Faulcon De Lacy model.. that and the short range for now but that'll be fixed.

I really liked it a lot as a nimble fighter... until the Viper was released.

But for people whose playstyle isn't about trading, but purely combat, this will be their step-up ship from a Sidewinder. It's price-point defines that. It's going to take some time to earn enough credits to buy a Viper and load it out if you're just running a Sidewinder. So make the little jump to an Eagle as a step-up ship. It's definitely not, and shouldn't be, a "This is my final ship".

It's speed needs to increase though. And I think the Viper's speed is a bit too high.

One of our players used an Eagle with railguns to take out Anacondas back in PB.

It is the second time after the new beta that I want to give the ship more attention and I try to use it at freeport pvp. I fly with the rift and i like the cockpit visibillity to the outside a lot. The turning rate is quite good too, but standing a chance against experienced viper pilots is rather difficult.
1. The viper with the boost velocity can dictate range. To play out the turning rate advantage of the eagle, one has to be quite close and try to brawl. Once you get the viper down to a certain hull damage, the pilot simply can decide to disengage in order to recharge shields or jump away. The eagle pilot cant do anything about it.
2. In order to fly effectively with the eagle against a viper in a 3x cannon fitting, one has to put at least 3 pips into engines to keep up, but it makes the shield recharge rather weak and it becomes a glass cannon. It is a bit like flying a tie fighter against an xwing but without having the higher velocity. With the viper putting 4 pips into shield, 2 into engines and one into weapons with a cannon fit works quite well.
3. I hope it finds it role once the jump range is better and we might fit some additional armor.

Anyway, I like the Eagle and flying it against Cobras so far seems quite effective as long one can start the engagement from close distance. Still I have mixed feelings about it but then again it is much cheaper than a viper and I think that should be reflected in the stats.

4 pips to shield, 2 into engines and one into weapons? Thats one pip more than you get! You only get 6 pips!

Tried it yesterday

I run a Lakon Type 6 most of the time, and from time to time I like to change to a different ship and try them out. Yesterday I changed my Type 6 for an Eagle in Freeport, and took it for a test run in the resource extraction location nearby.

I loved this ship. I play on a DK2, and the cockpit is tiny but cozy, with very good visibility. I loved the fact that there's an opening under the pilot's seat, so you can see underneath the ship while docking or landing the ship on an asteroid. It's also a very nice detail to be able to see the landing gear deploy and retract through this opening.

Maneuverability is very good, though it's not the fastest ship out there. I loaded mine with two pulse lasers and a canon, and I was able to easily destroy a few Sidewinders. Today I'll try against a Cobra NPC before going back to the Type 6.

I see myself coming back to this ship in the future, just for fun.

why does everyone want to have their cake and eat it too??? if the eagle had better range, etc it would be too powerful.

its ok the way it is.

The Eagle is primarily a cheap harasser.

It can be fitted with 3x C2 Cannons and still have a 5.44L/yr jump range which is enough to navigate the closer systems where small fighters and harasser craft are required.

The Eagle agility makes it perfect for combating larger ships that don't have the ability to turn anywhere near as fast as the Eagle, allowing it to effectively cripple the ship's components to a point that the ship it no long combat effective.

The speed of the Eagle is something that sucks, yes, but it's not designed to be extremely fast, that's the viper's job.

The Viper is a heavy attack craft, with the capability to house powerful weapons and get from point A to point B with extreme speed if required, but at a penalty. The Viper can EASILY over shoot targets that have higher maneuverability, which causes it to boost back out and make another run.

The Eagle keeping the Viper busy seems to be the purpose of this craft. A smaller, more agile ship, keeping a bigger and more powerful ship at bay whilst other ships complete the objective. ( IE: A mouse keeping the cat busy the the rat can eat the cheese.)

An excellent little ship. Little being the word though...

I actually love that it can have 3 X cannons and a kwarrant scanner and be highly successful at taking down cobra mk3s with 2-3k bounties on them. Yes, against a viper.... All ships have a disadvantage of speed, but the Eagle is so nimble and feels right for a single player fighter pilot.

I spent more time in an eagle than other ships purely for the fun of it. With greater range, it becomes an excellent ship, so would expect to see the cost increase, reduction in cargo space etc.. but how amazing would be for bounty hunting at the smaller scale!

moreover, it's the only ship I can see me going back to and so I bought a ship skin, which is really cool!
