Update 3.3.1

Well, They've probably rolled the latest bug fixes into the next update, which I suspect will be coming in April.

Technically, we have had 3.3.1, it's now 3.3.5.

I suspect what you're really after is 3.4 or do you think we'll be going to 4.0?

You apparently do not understand how software release numbering works. There is a big difference between 3.3.01 and 3.3.1. The former represents a very minor, specific "fix this particular bug ASAP" patch, whereas the latter represents a much more comprehensive, large patch specifically focused on fixing bugs. Just compare the patch notes of 3.3.01 and 3.0.1 (and 3.3.02 with 3.0.2, etc).

A new content patch would be 3.4, which TBH is not a priority for me personally. I much rather Frontier fix the existing code before adding new code. There was plenty of features added to 3.3 that I find enjoyable except for the bugs. Of course there are bugs that are over a year old that I'd love to see fixed as well.

As for 4.0 vs 3.4, technically Frontier could use either number the next new content update. A new year may warrant a new major (4.0) number jump. FWIW, the software patch numbering system is not very intuitive, so I don't fault people for not understanding it.

I think your missing a decimal point there.

I'd agree if it was 3.3.0.1 to 3.3.0.5 but as far as I'm concerned the 3.3.x will always be the minor bug fixes. I reckon they cut off the minor bug releases about a month before the release of the next big update. Whether it's 3.4 or 4.0 that's up to frontier.

No, we're currently on version 3.3.05, which is not the same as 3.3.5.

-- EDIT -- (sometimes less is more)

Regardless of the numbering system used, there's another number that matters more - the number of bugs that remain unfixed all these months later.

You are quite right, but if they can't straighten out the versioning, how are they going to straighten out the bugs.

Is the correct numbering:

3.3.05 > 3.3.06 > 3.3.07 > 3.3.08 > 3.3.09 > 3.3.010
or
3.3.05 > 3.3.06 > 3.3.07 > 3.3.08 > 3.3.09 > 3.3.10
or
3.3.05 > 3.3.06 > 3.3.07 > 3.3.08 > 3.3.09 > 3.3.1
or
3.3.0.5 > 3.3.0.6 > 3.3.0.7 > 3.3.0.8 > 3.3.0.9 > 3.3.1.0

I really want asteroid core mining fixed in wings. It's really bad right now; not something you can do with friends.

Even multicrew is wonky with it.

Fixed? You can't lock-on and operate on one and the same asteroid in a wing and this was never intended. But if someone in your wing cracks a rock and abrasive blasters are used on it, everyone should be able to collect the chunks.

It's really glitchy/buggy. Desyncs a lot or something.

Chunks end up teleporting 2-3km away and such. The setting charges is wonky as well, sometimes they just explode immediately and no one gets the charge yield indicator... it just... kinda pops...

It's very odd.

I have to admit that I am getting disheartened by how Frontier is handling the game since 3.3. I accept their explanation as to why we need to wait 18 months for the next expansion, but if you are going to impose such a long delay for major new content you had better be sure to have a plan in place for keeping the momentum going to keep the community engaged. Instead, Frontier seems to be coasting to a complete stop, at least in the short term. Now we lost fresh CGs with at least a month delay before we get... something. This is not the way to keep people playing. After the 18 month delay announcement, Frontier should have had stuff ready to go the week after, be it a patch or a detailed look at the new CGs or, even better, have the new CGs ready to go. This wait...wait...wait schedule will be poison for the franchise for the next 18 months. I have greatly enjoyed ED but even i have found myself shelving the game recently and reactivating my long dormant Eve Online character, something largely due to CCPs monthly content drops and patching process that has truly added a great deal of chrome to that ancient game. Frontier needs to emulate them for the next 18 months and stop this "when we get around to it" strategy that will kill enthusiasm for the game. If you are losing me, I think you are losing a lot of others in the sensible middle ("gray knights"? :) ).

I am waiting for:

The ADS to be put back into the game (and for no other existing features to be needlessly discarded).

A refund for the LEP value not redeemed.

The servers to eventually be switched off.

I play now because I know that one day I will no longer be able to, and I will wish I had played it when I had the chance.

Oh come off it Duck. They've been working on the bugs as they can as prioritized. Things are improving steadily and the minor bugs immediately after 3.3 have been worked on, no doubt. Enough that many can continue on with DW2 and other gameplay avenues stably enough. The only ones complaining like it's a major faux are hypochondriacs like yourself and those trying to tar FD for any number of psychological reasons by over exaggerating the number of substantial bugs which the report pages do not definitely represent.

They even improved and compromised on the skybox tint effects so its impact isn't as overly bright or far reaching, which was really the only continuously apparent "bug" I'd really been concerned with apart from the occasional connection problems which has been responsibly improved enough greatly since.

If we could get back on topic,i'm still unclear which version of numbering we're using,i had assumed that the thread was an update on Old Duck.
So to op i would ask when is the next update due and what numbering system will you be using? Also, can we expect anything new in the next update ?

Anyway, here's a rhetorical question: Make two lists in your mind, one with all the things you consider working flawlessly and compare it with the list with things that need to be fixed or thoroughly improved and then tell me what list is bigger. Guess I don't need to wait for the answer.

To this point, it's not about which list is bigger. You can make ginger bread cookies with all the best of ingredients, but if a couple of flies get in your batter, it doesn't matter how fresh the eggs are, the cookies with the flies will still be ruined. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch, one bad bug spoils the whole [whatever thing the bug is in]. Broken shaders spoil any gameplay based around site-seeing, which includes Guardian and Thargoid bases, Generation ships, new POIs, etc. Disappearing stars spoils deep-space exploration. Broken NPC AI spoils PvE combat. Forever "Scanning" spoils the new FSS. With "so many" bugs, there's not much left to do that isn't "spoiled" in one way or another.

And as for the people (all three of you) denying the existence of well-documented bugs, that's the equivalent of denying climate change. Drill, baby, drill!
