Why must you though? Isn't that saying the Force belongs only to the Jedi? ("Arrogance" Luke Skywalker, TLJ)
For the same efin reason anyone must train I guess ? To master a new skill ? It has nothing to do with arrogance, it just so happens that the Jedi are very good at using the force. they could go and try looking for a sith, problem is Sith's only can have one apprentice at a time. And again, TFA and TLJ are not valid arguments since they are the source of the problem. Its akin to trying to extinguish a fire by using gazoline.
I won't be distracted from my girl Brie ... but I can definitely dig Rey being a force of nature, and Leia too; Let go, reached out with her feelings .. and why not. Or on your knees Kylo; Rey+Force was epic (TFA), I bet she's never as powerful again and I had a tear in my eye right there.
Good for you, you are easily entertained. I on the other hand am not, I want my stories to be meaningfull and well written.

Did you even hear what Luke said how the force doesn't belong to anyone? So how do we know the Force wasn't using her .. rather than her using the force and having to be trained and so on and so on, dogma! .. The movie was called FORCE Awakens, not Rey Awakens.

If you want your entertainment deep, and who doesn't, look a little deeper maybe? Just a suggestion.

Rey can fight melee, with a staff, established earlier in movie.

While i'm all willing to believe that because she had to take care of herself on her own, she learned one or two tricks in melee fights. A bunch of thughs just does not compare to a FULLY TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED FORCE USER SITH !

And a staff IS NOT A LIGHTSABER, not the same handling, not the same weight and definitively NOT THE SAME LETHALITY ! Mishandle that thing and you may ending loosing a leg, a hand or worse !

I refer you to the answer I gave a few moments ago.
Fully trained Sith (with force side PTSD) meets instinctive fighter 100% in force touch = No contest, sorry.

Star wars and super hero films are predominantly made for kids, meaningful and well written just don't really apply to them. It shouldn't either its just popcorn entertainment.

Goose (Flerken, and not a cat apparently) agrees!

And so does my girl Brie, allegedly (though you'll never prove a thing) :D

Nah, he thought when I said Luke shifted a lightsaber I meant turned it on not moved it using his brain power. I doubt he's even seen Empire Strikes Back.

Oh ! you are talking of that ?

Good, you will notice that one, its the second movie of the franchise. Time passed between episode 4 and episode 5. TWO Luke was trained, if only briefly, by Oby wan. Even then, you might have noticed that he really struggled to achieve that trick ! He ain't a Jedi yet a this point.

Its simple, Luke is light years more convincing as a character, than Rey will ever be. Simply beacause Luke had to struggle to become a Jedi and master the force. Thus everyone can relate to him.

Rey tho, not such a thing. She was branded, and rightly so, as a Mary Sue ! And what is worse, is that Rey is even more of a Mary Sue than the original Mary Sue from a efin FAN FIC that was created as a joke that criticized the multiplication of such badly written characters in Fan fics.

I think Rey's troubles come more internally, she's actually not that sure of herself. Maybe she should be but that makes her trickable by a smart dark sider imo.

Luke on the other hand had some doubts about how powerful is the force.

Decades pass between Yoda confirming Leia's got Jedi powers and her using the force to return to the ship.

Superman is the ultimate Mary Sue, its pretty much his only gimmick yet no one gets annoyed. Odd that, its probably because he's a dude.

Sorry but no, I don't know about super heroes, but last time I checked on the boxes of the star wars movies it was written PG rated. Not for all audiences.

And if you really believe what you say, lets see if episode 9 turns out to be a hit. My guess, it will be the final nail in the Star wars coffin, which is sad.

Let me illustrate with some pictures.

For kids, really ?

The male equivalent of a mary sue is Gary stue, and no Superman is not a Mary Sue, wanna know why ?

First, he had to MASTER his powers, and it was hard. It took him his whole life.

Second, He does have a weakness, Kriptonite. The original autors did this PRECISELY to avoid Superman being OP as ***** and unstoppable, because otherwise he would be boring AF ! And there is a reason everyone prefers Batman to Superman.

Finally, NOBODY TRAINED LEIA ! NOBODY ! As stated in episode 5, you just don't become a jedi by the snap of a finger. You need to train, by a professional, and train hard ! Which Leia NEVER DID !

Well, to be honest I think Superman is not a very good super hero precisely for the reason that he is simply too powerful. Zac Snyder did a pretty good job of re-framing him as a "god" but he'll never be as compelling as a far more human and fallible character such as Spiderman.

Yep kids films. Who do you think the target audience of star wars films is ?.

Mild (on topic) audio spoilers. I mean geez, look at her!

Lest you forget, the Star Wars franchise isn't a monolithic thing. Even just in terms of the movies, we have (in production order):

  • Ep. IV - a low-budget sci-fi art project that succeeded beyond anyone's wildest expectations; probably a little slow-paced for today's kids but anyone old enough to sit through it should enjoy it fine
  • Ep. V - a fairly dark sci-fi thriller, decidedly not for young kids, but probably the most complex of the set to judge
  • Ep. VI - mainstream sci-fi blockbuster with some darker and more mature moments, but mostly "for kids" since by now Lucas had discovered the awesome power of merchandising
  • Ep. I - decidedly for kids, because Lucas had small ones by this point; but it turns out Lucas knows eff-all about kids' movies, so it turned out awful
  • Ep. II - not really for anyone, because the prequels are coasting on inertia and this movie spends more time on galactic tax law than anything the viewer cares about
  • Ep. III - also not really for anyone, but definitely too much nightmare fuel to be "for kids"
  • Ep. VII - sure, for kids if you want, Disney took over from Lucas and wants to sell Rey action figures by the shipload
  • Ep. VIII - as a teenager I pretended my car was an X-Wing but oh god even I can't make myself care about this franchise anymore, but looks generally tame by today's stanards?
