Time for Iron Man mode?

Seeing as implementing Iron Man mode would be a relatively simple task, just adding another mode at a new player start that used no respawns.
Wouldn't now be a good time to put it into the game, keeping us busy whilst we wait for the next major update?
Plus we can all get busy complaining about what hasn't been added to Iron Man mode

How would it work, in your view?

For example, would the BGS be shared? Would it be an exclusive private group?

Perma death in the same BGS,as its Iron Man it should be open only.
Improve AI skill would be great but i assume it would mess the game up if a wave of lethal AI was following players around bumping into normal mode players.

I already fly self-imposed Ironman mode.
It's... not much different to regular ED since dying is usually optional.

Please define permadeath in this context. 1) clear game saves and start over or 2) uninstall game never to return. These options are available now.

If it's in open (potentially with the assistance of, and in competition with non-ironman players) you can do this now, no changes to the game required. If you had an Ironman flag that other players could see you may become a ganker magnet. You may want this, others may not it's not all upside.

I think if an MMO were to have an enforced ironman rule it would make sense to play only with other ironman players, otherwise I don't really see what needs to change.

Why spend dev time on something that anyone can easily do themselves? What's stopping anyone from reseting their account if they die?

One word: Engineers.

So this "iron man" mode would just erase your ships/modules? Reseting your ranks would jack the Engineers up so you would have to leave that intact. You also couldn't reset how far you've travelled, and many other things. Why not just turn down rebuy?

Hmm, interesting. I may play Iron Mode with my cat :) Seriously though, what prevents you from just not using rebuy?

What keeps you from reading a little bit in this thread before posting?

No one has mentioned a single decent reason to implement Iron Man. You brought up engineers, but saving your engineer unlocks would require saving nearly everything but your ship.

So, do tell, what could Iron Man bring that turning down rebuy can't?

But if so, keeping Engineers unlock would indeed be a good idea. But that's *very* hypothetical...

So besides turning down rebuy for you, what else would an Iron Man mode actually do? Your ranks must be preserved, your travels, market reach, system permits, Imperial rank, etc.

I can't see how implementing Iron Man wouldn't literally mean sinking dev time into a new game mode to click one button for you. I'm all ears if anyone can explain otherwise.

Edit: Just saw your edit. So this would also involved an entirely new server mode for those unable to turn down rebuys, but want to retain their engineets, so they can face other "Iron Men" who can't turn down a rebuy on their own . . . yeesh.

Pardon? Of course this would involve a new server mode, what do you think the OP was talking about?
And what do you think why I said "But that's *very* hypothetical..."

A dedicated server mode to turn down rebuy for you . . . Are there any other server modes you would like created solely to click a button for you? ED does have a lot of buttons, we could get pretty creative here!

Its already in the game, just click the button

on your stats panel it tells you #rebuys too along with time played so you can gloat to others if you so wish

If you want to create an Ironman open only sever with other Ironman players start a Private group... the tools are there, you could even have your own squadron, names and everything, even your own station if you put the effort in and have the numbers.

verify your account on Inara and you can even publish your lack of rebuys by importing your frontier data & journal!

And then if it were popular and, say you had approximately 13k CMDRs signed up im pretty sure FD would spend some worthwhile time developing something.

i wish you all the success make it happen o7

Unfortunately, this does not prove ones ironman playtime.

I've reset my account 3 times and each time the "approx time played" didn't reset. Therefore, I assume this is linked to ones account rather than an individual CMDR. Theoretically, one could be on CMDR 1000 & have a massive amount of playtime with 0 insurance claims.

BTW, I'm not saying this applies to you Kenneth.

An Iron Man mode could be used as a way to increase the challenge to a point where the game would be deemed as inaccessible to the larger audience.
Spawns that only appear in this mode could contain the leathal AI that has periodically appeared in game only to be shouted down by the larger player base. Many ideas that are thrown out due to it being too hard could be thrown into this mode.
If this mode were added as an additional cmdr, available on the same account I feel it would be used by a lot of cmdr’s.
