Help please, Selene Jean is asking me what engineering mods I require for fighting Thargoid Scouts.

I'm a casual player on a long quest to rank myself up from 75% Dangerous to Elite ..... for the Triple .... so I'm taking on Thargoid scouts at CZs.

I've fitted a Krait Phantom with military armour and am sat here at the engineer bewildered by the choices available to me.

Should I fit Blast Resistant, Heavy Duty, Kinetic Resistant, Lightweight or Thermal Resistant armour ?

Then there's the hull reinforcement. Should I just double up what I have for the armour ?

Should I worry about engineering the military armour at all ?

(If you wonder why I'm using the Phantom, I have a Python and two Krait IIs already and I wanted a change. It has fought quite well with the standard lightweight armour, but it depletes very quickly once my repair limpets are gone and it gets expensive losing the ship multiple times! )

I don't want to ruin your day, but I'm having much more success with the Chieftain rather than the Krait.
I've found the Krait very vulnerable because of the Canopy. It's constantly falling apart. I had to leave countless combat zones because of this (even with module reinforcements).

Instead I would say that the Chieftain was made to hunt Thargoids Scouts. It perfectly fits that role.

Funnily enough, I've never yet lost my canopy, it has been the hull (without armour) that has caused me to depart hastily, so I guess once I improve everything, I will notice the canopy going [blah]

First, lose the Phantom. Scout hunting require both shield and hull, and Phantom lacks the former and not exactly shines in the latter.

Second, get this FDL: https://s.orbis.zone/mtn

Third, go kill some Scouts. Just be sure to never, ever, EVER attack Interceptors with this ship.

Good idea to take a decontamination limpet and a cargo rack with a few limpets. If you get hit by an enzyme missile from a Scout, you will need to leave or superheat your ship to get rid of the caustic damage, if you don't have decontamination limpets.

To the OP: heavy duty with deep plating is the only way for Thargoids. Their weapons are not taking into account the resistances (like plasma accelerators).

That's funny, I've been trying both as well and my Chieftain seems to crack more than the Krait Mk2. But it's pretty even I think so probably comes down to which cockpit I prefer.

So Krait mk2 for me. Not tried a Phantom for Thargoids though.

OP You want Heavy Duty with Deep plating and a small C2 HRP with Thermal Resistant/Deep Plating to balance your resists. You may also want to unlock some guardian MRPs to help, but regular ones will work just fine. The Phantom is a great ship when fully engineered. (3200-3500 armor and 600 shields)

I'm casual to fighting too. I had a Krait with hull reinforcement and modules reinforcement. Don't know why (maybe my combat style?) but I lost the canopy so many times in HAZ and HI-RES.
Instead, Scouts could never even drop my shields on the Chieftain (Shields Gen 6A), but I'm not talking about USS's with Scouts and Interceptors together, only Scouts.
Nothing engineered, it was a quick outfit with only AX multi-cannons (2x Larage and 1x Medium). I can imagine that with egineered and guardian stuff I could make it even easier.

Is it the same for shields? Heavy duty/reinforced/high capacity/screw resistances? I am thinking of making that other type of tank from my cutter.

Well thanks for the advice, everyone.

The Krait Phantom seems to be handling well enough with the extra armour/deep plate and hull reinforcement/deep plate and I'm not having to run away any more because my hull is dangerously low ..... until the bigger badder Thargoids turn up for the party [where is it] Thankfully, I have Grade5 DDs so my boost speed of 544 allows me to escape.

I'm using turreted AX multi cannon and Rails for direct hits on the scouts - looks good with blue bullets and purple explosions :) I've still not noticed a problem with the canopy of the Phantom. It must be my flying style ... I tend to duck under the incoming weapons fire and the Phantom, having a thin profile, makes a difficult target for the scouts to strike head-on.

So far, so good ... now in the 80's % Dangerous .... a fair way to go to Elite yet !

o7 commanders !

Nice!
How are those rails working?
