Anyway, Beyond is also an expansion. They could've charged for quite a lot of things in Beyond (other companies want money for Horse Armor and Paradox sells you faction leader portraits and new music) but decided against it.

What do you mean by fail? Financially? Well if the game is not profitable I wouldn't blame them for shutting it down. On the other hand they managed to run the game for the last 3 years without selling expansions, so even if they stop selling DLC they could probably pay servers and minimum staff for quite some time. So the worst case scenario that I can see for the foreseeable future is the fabled maintenance mode.
