This game needs to impose itself upon the player.

If this is about having fun in this game then I agree. It should be fun. Unfortunately, fun is very specific and relative to each individual playing.

I like a challenge, I set myself big goals & enjoy planning, breaking it down into manageable chunks, and ultimately achieving them.

The example I regularly use is that I took a fully equipped 19ly Corvette to Beagle Point unassisted (I didn't research the route, I only knew it could theoretically be done). Currently I'm A-B trading to repair damaged stations. It's going to take a while.

A lot of the actual doing is dull, but I remain motivated by my intention to achieve my goal, and occasionally I'll do something different if my motivation wanes, although I tend to put myself in a mindset or position where I have to keep pushing on or just give up. Not everyone is self-motivating, they need someone else to supply some direction and the charismatic personality that can provide that direction doesn't always have the community's best interests in mind.

I'm not sure about you but I don't like to have my mouth burnt, it has happened to me while drinking tea.

Well, some people with a burnt mouth scream and cry. Others reach for water. It switches off the thinking side and engages the adrenaline.

A recent example of molten ED cheese for me was I started to stack pirate lord kills, and I had a small amount of cargo for another mission. I went into a compromised nav to scan for the targets, when both Corvettes jumped in, the whole nav wanted 'my tasty cargo' and one little Adder sod tried it on with a hatchbreaker. Even in my G5 DeathVette I was being pounded from all sides and barely escaped 2 Corvettes, 1 Ana, a few Asps, Kraits Chieftans and every out there showering me in fire. When I went to SC my palms were sweaty, and I was actually shaken a tad (and very pleased I had armoured a lot of my modules).

What you are doing sounds like work, which I already have plenty of IRL. I need self-motivation to mow the lawn, but we shouldn't need it to enjoy a recreational computer game. If anything, it should take self-motivation to pull us away from a fun, engaging game.

Speaking of, I spend way too much time in the forums! [haha]

That's why the best time to apply your subjective preferences is pre-purchase.

Apparently its quite common now to buy pretty much at random then demand the game be immediately altered to suit your own preconceptions of what it should have been.
Which is what I did in 2015. Then the game changed. Too late now I know. If only I could have looked into the future.

So don't do that then, set your own goals, ones you prefer. I'm describing my playstyle (which does not require the game to change to the detriment of others), not yours. I like flying my ships & finding different reasons to do so.

You know, there're ways to engage adrenaline without hurting yourself. Also, why would you want to have an extreme moment while having lunch?

The thing is, you didn't hurt yourself while doing this, eating something hot will hurt.

+1. [up]

For me its improved, subjective again. The only change I can think of for 2015 would be engineers and I really like all that.
Not so much myself. My interest no doubt, will one day be ignited again. Probably when it becomes possible to mod the game and it becomes possible to re-work, or flesh-out all the rushed and incomplete content. Subjectively speaking of course.

Now that, sums it up for me. There are three other games at present, all vying for my limited time and attention. :D

PvE gameplay imposes itself plenty. It just takes the form of grinding rather than immediate consequences.

Hours spend at Dav's Hope, crashed Condas, HGE chasing and Barnacles are more than enough penance for a lifetime of the worst transgressions.

I'd rather not increase this level of non consensual PvE.

Why do you do these things? Why would you spent hours at one site gathering mats?

Set up a player group with a bunch of like-minded & trustworthy mates & agree to fly vanilla ships. All your entertainment & no more 'grind' required than just earning some cash for ships & rebuys.

Definitely not the kind of imposing that I'm suggesting, certainly.

It takes several instances of full speed collisions to destroy a ship.

When was the last time you flew in anything other than an invulnerable tank? There are lots of ships for many different types of gameplay - don't complain because you have one which bores you.

Earlier in the week, I had a minor crash on a planet with only 1.4g, and it still took out my shields and reduced my hull to 13%, because I'm in an Aspx kitted out for exploration. And if that happened after months in the black, rather than only a couple of days (and it has before), I'd absolutely see that as a degree of peril meaningful in my enjoyment of the game.

That's not to say there shouldn't be other risks - a greater threat in low security systems is something I've always supported, even though I'm not a combat pilot - but to say that there's no threat because you've chosen a path that eliminates threat isn't helpful or accurate.

I would guess it's pretty essential for players who want to get seriously into PvP, or... er, ganking. As we know, by means of engineering, combat ships can be made extremely powerful, there are a variety of options which can be used in different ways. If you don't do it, you can't compete successfully in that world. Keep on atoning for those transgressions Feros! ;)
