PvP I Think Someone Tried To Murder Me

I was trying to dock.
I was coming in nice and slow - nose about over the landing pad when I clipped the edge.
I bounced back.

Suddenly, a guy slammed nose first into the center of the dock.
He hit it hard enough to take down his shields.

He then flew off.

Null threw his best at me and failed.
That's the story I'll tell my grandkids.

Some of you are taking this opportunity to mock my misfortune.
However, I've launched an investigation into this issue and I've an interesting theory.

I think [redacted] tried to murder me.

Consider this evidence:
1: She has been recently added to my friends list.
2: She pretends to be lawful PvP in the forum.
3: She is suspicious of others tricking her.
4: She's a known associate of Jason - and we know what he's like.
5: GET THIS: Her name is [redacted], and that is what happened!

Furthermore, as the leader of a fledgling lawful smuggling group, I've decided that this murder attempt should be classified as an assassination attempt.

No one ever got killed in Elite by an FAoff-landing-only ace :D

I'm in a Sidewinder and I knocked the shields off a Viper without firing a shot.
I could probably take out a station in this thing.

I think you need to quit endlessly practicing FA off landing and get out there for some payback! :D
WO

This hurts a little bit, coming from you.
While I'm pretty sure [redacted] did this thing I'm adding you to the backup suspect list.

XD, first, I am sorry for what happened to you, It is sad.
But second, I think my position is even worser then you, every time some one notice my identity in open, some of them will try to kill me, I have no idea why, probably because I am too handsome?

Let's slow this ship down and fly under the moderation team's radar.

*clears throat*

Is there an effective, pro-active way to reduce the chances of getting rammed while docking?
Do any of you have advice/special move/precautions that you take?
Should I buy a shield upgrade?

I got lucky that time.
I cannot depend on that luck.

Situational awareness and ensure you're under the speed limit

- situational awareness
- best shields
- 4 pips to sys
- don't speed
- really, don't speed!
- did I mention situational awareness?

Okay, I'm not understanding the speeding part at all.
What impact does that have on this thing?

Same question for 4 pips in sys - what does that do?

4 pips to sys maximize your shield strength.

And you should never speed because only filthy criminals speed. OBEY THE LAW ;)

So basically, this is a way to murder another player without getting whacked for it.
My understanding is that you'd get a nominal fine but nothing else happens.

Maybe if you slam into a station hard enough to knock down your own shields the station should blow you out of the sky.
I'm a total noob pilot and I've crashed into the station several times - in a Sidewinder - and only manage to take down my shields after multiple impacts.

The basic idea of station ramming is that the ramming ship gets damaged and at best killed in the process. If that happens while you are over the speed limit, you get the blame and a murder bounty, which will promptly lead to death by station artillery. Being under the speed limit means you're safe though, since then it's automatically assumed that it's not your fault. The fatal thing is that a nudge by someone else, can push you over the speed limit, at which point death by station law occurs again.

Would maxed shield strength on an unmodified Sidewinder survive that assault?

I dunno about "unmodified", but my sidey got rammed by an anaconda yesterday and it's running biweaves with enhanced low power and lo-draw. I had 4 pips to sys and they didn't drop. I did however end up spinning like one of those crazy neutron stars for a good while.
