ED thanks for exist

Well after 30+M in credits I had not much to do on ED so I tried finding another space sim for the meantime (Star citizen doesn't count)

I looked into the X series which seems the most current, X rebirth having the worst reviews but the ones before seem decent enough, so I start watching videos of turorials of X2 and X3 and all I see are menus, menus, menus and more menus, and more playing with menus before you actually get to fly the ship.
Also tried EvE online and you don't even get to fly your ship in real time, and oh yes more menus.

What happened?
Came rushing back to elite laucher and started playing again :D
Seriously the best space seem so far and is only beta, it has it flaws, but after seen the rest, ED is king.

The Chris Roberts is interested in a more "arcade shooter" style of game (well closer to that end than a true sim) where as Braben is a proper sim guy. I'm not saying that Star Citizen or the other games Chris has been involved with are bad or anything (played almost all of them and had a blast) but he and David just have different ideas about what they want to produce. Personally I will play and enjoy both but the sims are what keep my interest longer.

X started out very well and when I saw the first trailers it just screamed "Elite" at me (Profitssssssss!). Loved the first game, X-Tension was also good but they lost their way at 2. Didn't look at 3 and Rebirth looked truly awful to play. Shame really.

indeed ED i going to be the king.

but seeing your remarks on the other space games, you might want to try freelancer, if you can still get a copy.

It is very dated and only playable with mouse and keyboard, but you got direct control, only have menus when docked 4 buying trading and to get missions, and lots and lots of mods... i mean LOTS.

man i love that game.... think its time to dust of the cd-rom case 1 more time and apologize for cheating on it and kindly (if possible) inform it i'm getting a divorce and marrying ED.

No space sim has ever come close to the original, the closest was the 2 sequels.

The rest were always poor mans elite.

I remember playing the first x series and while if there was no elite I might have liked it more, it just wasnt elite. It was ok I suppose.

You're so right! It is actually one of the very few games I finished (I'm very bad at finishing games: must be awesome otherwise I lose interest pretty much immediately) cause the story was interesting, the gameplay and controls were great (even if it was missing roll and yaw... lol... I still don't understand why the AI could used them though..) and the AI wasn't stupid... ok it was missing dynamic market and the combat was a bit too much simplistic but the impact of the game... man it was great!

Why don't you burn some cash on combat, lets say 10 million wouldn't hurt you much right? Beta test is about learning, use this opportunity.

With that, you'll start launch game more prepared and will know what to do.
