i was just at Erevate, lots of ships buzzing about.. many of them switching off their crime beacons. But didnt see any action.
I flew to LHS 3447 and watched a new player spend ten minutes trying to land his ship. Bless.

Thanks for nothing. 5 minutes pointless drivel at the docking bay. I *really* did enjoy that (NOT).

No need to be rude, Pico. Folks have to dock sometimes.

Unfortunately a lot of this happens on UK peak times. I'm US, with a full time job, so just as I posted this the big engagement had ended.

Something going on now, if you want to tune in. Looks like round 2.

lol - watching new players try to land is entertainment in itself :D

Let's not have that discussion here.
This thread belongs in this sub-forum and won't be closed unless the discussion here warrants it. Not off to a good start

Yes that's what I figured. All what these clowns achieve (or prove?), if anything, than how conceptually broken Open mode actually is. Guess they don't realize how they're effectively helping to turn Open in some sort of a shadow server: 'owned' and played by clowns exclusively. In the 5 minutes I wasted watching this stream someone actually was toddling about "breaking the game mechanics". As if there would be no other modes... and as if the game would do without any new players in the long run, cause noobs are the only ones running into some trouble. So clever, so smart...

You sound unreasonably upset for someone that's just watched a docked ship for 5 minutes.

You know, Pico, you always used to seem like a pretty reasonable fella. Lately though, you just sound like a whole lot of sour grapes.

In Eravate this afternoon the action was against PvP fit ships on both the lawful and ganker side. A buttload of PvPers converged on the system and had some big, long fights there. It was good guys vs bad guys, with everyone willingly participating. PvP literally can't get more "consensual" than that.

It was a lot of fun to watch and listen to (as much as I got to see of it, anyways). It's a shame that you chose to be so dour and curmudgeonly that you couldn't be bothered to enjoy it.

Maybe I got a somewhat distorted impression as to me it looked like the only purpose of this action was to massively block landing pads. Your comment seemed to confirm this. If that wasn't the case I apologize. I probably got your "Folks have to dock sometimes" the wrong way around. But yes, I'm a bit grumpy as of late (for various reasons).

Happens, dude. Life is trash sometimes and we carry it over into our games.

Hope you're well.

Maybe it's time of the day but not much going on in Eravate right now... in s/c one Harmless guy in a sidey... 3 more in the station.

This 'event' has any specific time too I presume?

I just went there to have a look.

Oh.. I just checked the link.

Over twenty ships engaging in pitched PvP to block landing pads.

Give us a break. Your agenda shines through with every post.

Getting 48 commanders into a single instance to block all the landing pads of an orbis starport would be an achievement in itself. Nobody at a port that big is going to be griefed by pad-blocking until they're in a medium ship at least.

OP. I just "tuned in" and all I heard was an awful noise. I think it was called "music". I tuned out, switched off and put some Simon Lindley on.

Sadly by the time I got to post that the main fight was just ending. There was some piecemeal action after that, I think, but I was then engaged otherwise.

Like I said earlier, a lot of it happened on peak UK time, so I was at work while much of it was going on.

Not that I'm about to renounce my US citizenship or anything, but I've often thought it would be more fun gaming in the UK time zone.

You are right of course, with an emphasis on "a single instance". This alone speaks volumes about the illusionary nonsense that organized large scale Open actually is. When I said it was my impression, I didn't mean they actually pulled this up but would probably try something along these lines. Otherwise I don't see a reason why a player is posing 5 minutes on the same landing pad.

Except there's some sort of 'honor codex' and everyone can be sure their opponent never would sneak out in Solo, it *could* make some sense for a hunter to await his prey. But then there's still instancing. But ok, that's your game, your nonsense and I certainly don't stand in the way - even if I'd try I most likely couldn't. Have fun! [big grin]

My game? I've never fired upon another player in open in my entire time playing this game. I'm just saying that you're looking for griefing in things that couldn't possibly be griefing.

"That guy's parked on a landing pad! For five minutes! He's clearly up to... something!"

Last time I answered a call of nature while I was parked in Cleve Hub I probably contributed more newbie grief, at least I was actually taking up a small pad.
