Dont get me wrong. I'm not against that they made their own "Online Library" (Like i said throughout this thread)And this is the only part that is relevant being that Frontier dropped a subtle hint on page one that they have no intention of using the Steam Workshop for user generated content.
Read between the lines. They're working on their own system for user generated content so the whole Steam vs Frontier argument as to who is most capable of providing a lasting UGC service due to overall financial prowess is a pointless argument. It really doesn't cost that much money to rent a few AWS servers to contain & distribute this stuff. Elite: Dangerous is rocking between 80-170 servers at any one time:

The server requirements (and costs) for a content distribution system are timid by comparison.
I just do not want to hear silliness (like the risk between Steam and Frontier is the same, because it's 100% wrong !!!) and your "the number of servers" argument is irelevant.
Of course they have a strong back, and the financial resources to host this system. It's not what i'm talking about here.
I just wanted to restore two truths in this thread :
- SteamStore is just a online store (and the bigest one in the world), so the game NEED (and not "SHOULD") to be selled here.
- SteamWorkshop is much safer than any other "home made" platform in the world (even if some, like Frontier or others, can do it too).
Whether we like "Steam" or not !
Again, i'm not against a custom system (which may also have some advantages), i just saying that it's more dangerous (and not only about the bankruptcy risk, but also the fact that they can transform the "library" into a "shop" at any time if they want) and that, regardless of our trust in Frontier. Everyone has to deal with it. Me, you, everyone. This remains a risk that we would be foolish to ignore.
Steam tried and took a big red card. And we are 125 millions users !
So if Frontier want to do the same, the chances that they do so will be larger, because the user numbers will be less important in the world, and that the "noise" around the subject will be much smaller.
*coughs* Electronic Arts *coughs*
I trust Frontier as developers, but shareholders ? It's something else.
