Really worried about pre-themed rides.

I agree with many of the posters here. While it can be a great deal of fun for the designers to design these rides using heavily themed assets, it may not be the best idea for the end users. As suggested interchangeable themed assets within a ride would be a great compromise and solution.

Its like legos, the more heavily themed a piece is, the more useless it becomes in the long run.

Anyway, dont forget how much love and detail are in these rides. I love them! And sometimes its easier to be creative. You have a theme and you can build a story about each ride!
If we become custom transportation rides or Ghost trains, there will be more sense of an non-themed ride for me :)

I agree 100%. I really like the pre-themed. when they make an outstanding spooky ride it fits very well in a spooky section.

But....

I'd like the same type of ride available un-themed so I can put it in my recreated park from my childhood. Most parks 30 years ago had little to no theme. And these Sim games do better to fill that itch too. There are a bunch of us old gamers.

Also I might want a mini ferris wheel in a fantasy area and might not want it to be pirate themed.

So.. the hard part has been done. It has the programming of the movement and mechanics already done. Just skin a second plain one for us Please.

Well, if you want to make a Medieval topspin, but there is only a Templed version in-game, you have a serious issue... That is why we'd love to customize our flatrides.

Obviously the ideal solution WOULD be to have a non-themed AND several different themed versions, but the thing is, as someone who has some experience with 3D modeling and animation, I know making this stuff takes time, especially if you have to throw coding into the mix. It's not as simple as you all put it.

Same for the modular construction you guys are suggesting, that's a difficult thing to code and will take a LOT of time.

So given how much time it takes to create a different theme for a ride I think it's best if we started off by having just the generics, and if theres time, add a few more themed versions to the existing rides, not the other way around.

There isn't a release date so far, Better wait for a game that's worth playing by what we would love to see and take a bit more time, then get a total disappointment like RCTW.

And it's a lot easier for us to wait when we can play along as they work on it.

I thought the balance they had in RCT3 was ok, but the way you could change the fences, entries and exits to match the theme you were working on was great.

I would have liked to see more options to change the theming of the ride cars. It seemed a little inconsistent to me.

Obviously as Planet Coaster is an Alpha, it's rather premature to think they've decided on a final "concept".

Just another +1 from me for having an unthemed version of each ride! VERY important!
It is really frustrating not being able to place a twirl ride in the pirate theme because you
can't get rid of the witch / the teacups / whatever, which don't fit the theme at all.

I agree, In a game like this you need non-themed versions of rides or you are limiting players deciding where they can be used.

However, on the flip side, without an advanced theme selection system for rides, I believe it would be very hard to make the ride look interesting. Placing the odd bits of scenery here and there on a skeleton of a ride will never have as much character as a fully themed ride that an artist has sat and designed piece by piece.

I am impressed with the look of rides from what I have seen and it really does give the rides a character of their own. However I am in the non-themed camp simply because limitation of creation is a bad route to take on a game designed to let you theme your way. I would rather see a plain ride in a western scene than, say, a ufo.

But I wouldn't want to scrap the themed versions if possible because just like every piece of scenery they give us, they can be valuable for the themes they are designed for.

I agree , We need to raise this in livestream 3, I REALLY dont like pre themed rides one little bit, despite how well frontier do them, we absolutely need generic versions too.

More than just a generic version you need the ability to change the colors. Using the same rides regardless of themed or generic is going to get boring real fast, providing a color pallet to change the textures of the ride allows for a much more flexibility. I've not seen anything about a color pallet to change the actual rides colors, a generic theme and color pallet would be welcomed.

Watch today's livestream.

Colour palette added for coaster tracks in Alpha 2, incoming for everything else further down the line (including some deeper customisation options eg. restraint colour, textures, wheels etc.....)

^ Just saw it that's great news now I hope they also add the generic themes as mentioned here, the best of both to come true!

On one hand, the livestream calmed me down quite a bit. It certainly seems like they heard us and will make sure the game has more than it's fair share of generic rides. This is stellar and so exciting.

On the other hand - I also got the impression from them that "some rides are going to have theming", and "things like the sky aces have minimal theming", to be used as centerpieces.
In reality a ride with any level of theming like that is restricted and can't be used wherever you want to make it fit in. I could color the skyscraper in the middle of the sky aces brown and yellow, it still won't fit a western theme or a jungle theme.

It's great to hear the devs are hearing us though!

The coolest thing would be to have a system close to Sim City 5's way to deal with facility buildings. You build it and then you can edit it with adding things on it.
Imagine, place a general attraction and then you edit and add themed details on it. From a range of different stuff to choose from. [happy]

I was certainly glad to hear it. I can handle a handful of rides that are locked to a specific themed area ar in an unthemed area. as long as they give us a good variety. it sounds like it.
