How do you take a video?

There are multiple ways to record, depends on your situation and what you want to use.

  • You can use the built in windows 10 Game bar, press [Windows] + [G] to bring it up, then you can use the buttons there, or I think you can press [Windows]+[Alt]+[R] to just record. i have never used this method, but I should try it.
  • I use the Plays.TV recorder and it has been working pretty well for me so far.
  • Both AMD and Nvidia have game recording utilities you can download. Plays.tv is what AMD gives you.
  • Lots of people use Fraps or Bandicam to record, I have never tried either.

I hope that helps. Other people probably will have better advice as my recording experience is somewhat limited.

There is no in-game video capture function in PC. To record a video, you have to use some additional program. Muserato listed a few options but there are more than most folks can count. If you search the forum for video recording software, you'll see numerous earlier threads on this subject listing all sorts of ways to do it.

I'm still on Win7 and didn't even know Win10 had a built-in recording feature, so can't say anything about that. I myself use OBS, a free program that I find works best for me.

The thing is, what works for 1 person won't work for another because the different video capture options all impose different demands on your computer. For me, OBS is better than FRAPS but it's the other way around for other folks. So expect to have to try several different programs before you find the one you like best.

I've seen a popup on my screen about the win10 gamebar. I'll have to look into it.

Thanks for both of your responses!
