Parks Sycamore Valley Adventure Land

Trying my hand at designing a full park. I seem to be currently going towards a Victorian/Colonial theme to start, but will be branching out as the park grows to try to incorporate some others as well.

Update 1: Main Street

Been focusing on the Main Street area to learn more about the building controls (found out the duplicate feature is useful on building features). My goal is to make things look nice without putting too much detail in so I don't fry my computer before I fill the park up. I've also added in what could be a train station that goes over the path behind the first intersection. Totally not functional, and probably will be the wrong size if train transportation gets added, but I like it!

Update 2: Finishing Main Street and Waterfront Promenade

Small Update today...

I decided that the park needed a water feature so I could try building bridges at some point, so I added a lake in the middle.

I then extended the main street up to the edge of the lake and added buildings to finish lining the street and plopped a little promenade area overhanging a small part of the lake.

Update 3: Aeronauts and Bridge

Slowly chipping away at the entrance area of the park. Made a bridge that will take you out of the city/main area and into a new TBD theme.

I also added the first ride of the park, because who doesn't like balloon rides!

I would show it more detail, but I haven't finished the backsides of the buildings surrounding the ride.

As a bonus, I tried making a panorama of the entrance. What do you think of the idea?

Love it. Simple, elegant and understated while being gorgeous at the same time. I wish I knew how to edit........ I just throw the kitchen sink at each building.

Thanks! It surprising how much time it takes to try to make things look good without overdoing it. I've been making each building by hand so that no 2 are the same.

If you want to get better at making buildings, challenge yourself and make a bunch of buildings from scratch but only give yourself 5 - 10 minutes. As you start getting used to pieces, lower the time you give yourself. The hard time limit should help keep you from going over board. And remember, keep things simple. It's a theme park builder. Some people will go over the top with designs, but most real life parks overwhelm with the amount of things, not necessarily the detail of them.

Yea....for my park Royaume des Reves, I'm spending about 30 minutes on each building. Check it out.....it's here in the forums. Cheers.

Update 4: Vekoma SLC

Built a Vekoma SLC to try out the new inversion mechanism and ended up liking it so I plopped it down across the lake from the entrance.

I haven't really decided on a theme for the area yet, so I sparsely decorated with some water side vegetation. I didn't spent a lot of time on the station for that reason either, and I'm certain that it'll be torn down to match the surrounding area once I get there.

I think the layout turned out pretty well, and although I couldn't get all the inversions smoothed out properly, it has a decent flow.

And for good measure, here's a POV. (Once it finishes processing)

Update 5: Cobra - Launched wingcoaster

Still chipping away. Spent the last week putting down a new roller coaster. Not really happy with how the inversions turned out, but either I'll get practice or they will get easier to make in the future. Just have to carry on.

This is going to be the start of a new frontier area that you'll come across after leaving the main entrance area town.

There are a total of 6 inversions, including 4 here:

The station could use some work still, but it'll do for now.

And of course, a nice photo to finish it off.

Update 6: Shooting Star

Been a bit busy lately, but I'm continuing to develop the park...maybe I'll finish before the game is released haha. I discovered on accident that you can make loops on the sprint coaster, so I turned one into a shuttle coaster. I think it turned out pretty good!

I'm going to be filling in some buildings along the streets and adding in a couple of flat rides to finish off the area, but it takes forever trying not to duplicate buildings...

Definitely agree on the coasters. Very nice coasters and I also enjoy what I can see of the park layout so far. It shows that you have experience with spacial planning or layouting. The feeling of space that's been created in your mainstreet is exactly what many other parks need to pay attention to or need to emulate. In my opinion one of the most important aspects of parkmaking is having an image in your head of the space you're trying to create before building an actual area. For me, atmospherically this sets apart the good from the great. It's what turns a cluster of individually awesome scenery into a coherent, storytelling, atmospherical surrounding that instantly captures the viewers.

In other words, great job on that in the mainstreet area and with that lake front. I'm interested to see what kind of spaces you will create in the other areas.

I do have a bit of criticism though in regards to the architecture. While I do like the architecture and while I realize the buildings aren't all the same, they're still eerily similar. I would definitely suggest that in the other areas you set out a typology for your archy but use a bit more variation when creating the individual buildings.

Keep it up!
Oh and if you don't mind check out my topic and video in this forum as well and leave me a comment. [heart]
