Planet Coaster Haunted House competition

It was a dreary, dark day in September. Planet Coaster players from around the world gathered in front of the broken rusty gate. It was drizzling slightly, and the midnight air was turning people’s breath to icy clouds. An owl hooted in the distance.

The house lay slightly elevated upon the grassy hill, its outline emphasised by the pale moon above it. If you listened closely, you could hear the wooden slats creaking from afar, sending chills down your spine. One first-floor window was dimly lit, indicating the ghostly presence looming within... It was said to be the spirit of the deceased owner, summoned by ancient forces and stuck forever in the old mansion.

But today, the Planet Coaster players have come to break the curse – let’s hope they have what it takes...

Introducing: the Planet Coaster Haunted House competition!
We want you to tell us your most scary story, your creepiest adventure, or your freakiest encounter!

Starts: Wednesday September 27, 2017 (NOW)
Ends: Monday October 9, 2017 at 23:59PM BST
Top 10 announcement: Wednesday October 11, 2017 at 7PM BST during the YouTube livestream.
The entire top 10 will receive a special signed spooky poster!

Here’s what to do:
Create a Haunted House as a Workshop item, write down a short story in the description, and email your creations to community@frontier.co.uk. You can use item placement, triggers, animatronics and more to tell your story or illustrate your text.

RULES

  • No rides or park files; scenery blueprints only
  • Your blueprint cannot feature any copyrighted materials
  • Your blueprint description has to include a story to be read out on the livestream
  • Please try to limit your pieces and billboard files; the Haunted House has to be under 4k pieces and no more than 5 different billboard files can be used (otherwise we cannot show it off in all its glory).
  • Your blueprint will only be considered if you’ve submitted the link to community@frontier.co.uk.

This competition is about creative storytelling, and we are really looking forward to what you can do with the assets! Thanks!
[heart]
Bo

Could have a winner that is added to the game like Tricky's go-kart track although I guess the possible usage of billboard files is the issue here [cool]

Good luck for the guys with great imagination.

Thinking of this, looking at the time frame and no rides only scenery. Walk through attractions in the big anniversary update?

And the winner will have his blueprint in the game when the update releases?

Sounds like a great competition! Good luck everyone! I look forward to see all of your spooky submissions. [shocked]

So you have to built a haunted mansion without a ride init?

That is correct. The rules state: "No rides or park files; scenery blueprints only". Good luck!

triggers without ride?

The way they have it worded makes it sound like you can have objects activate on a trigger but i thought triggers were only available on rides unless im missing something?

also does it specifically have to be a house or can it be a haunted castle?

The Display Sequencer doesn't need a ride.

^ yes but that means only timed events after someone clicks play on sequencer.

I guess it will just need to be background ambience on loop and nothing too specific.

I think it is possible to do it without going over the top and being overly reliant on Screens and things. Context and a creepy atmosphere can do a lot without all too fancy stuff.

I would love to enter and try my luck. But work permits only a few hours play a day not to mention the competition is again overlapping with a Frontier event... *sigh* I'll see what i can do :D

What's wrong with looping? Why does it have to be "background ambience"? Nothing too specific?
Your thinking is in a small box. You should get out of it.

LOL what? If I saw your image pop down suddenly when entering a haunted house, I'd say "wow, that proximity trigger was so much more effective that the looped background atmospherics". And that's the simple point.

It's mostly about storytelling and creating ambience without relying on the rides :) you can use the display sequencer or simply use static animatronics.

I just got to the end of a really full-on Planet Coaster contest that lasted 3 months, from the middle of June until last week. I should be totally burned out but I have to say, out of all the competitions held over here on the PC forums, this one excites me the most. I'm really tempted. I must be a glutton for punishment ;)
