Engine boost needs to be disabled inside stations!!

No but then a turbo charger on a car isn't going to suddenly propel you at 300 mph across the forecourt if you touch the accelerator. It's not an issue of piloting more an issue of control layout. Modern airliners have numerous fail safes built in. It's not unreasonable to expect an advanced spaceship to have the same or at least an option of turning it off other than an override when your gear is down.

You have the option to only engage boost with a verbal command via Voice Attack, what more do you want...

The last thing I want in this game is a nanny state that panders to every whine and grunt certain minorities make

So we should do away with flight and rotational assist then. Because that dumbs the game down more than the game recognising a situation where it is unlikely the player meant to press a key.

There are valid reasons to boost inside the station, or at least on the way out.

Rebind your Landing Override keys and you retain full control of you ship while being able to lock your boost out until your landing gear is up.

I usually use boost to exit a station, this is fun !!!

RP on

If you don't know how to pilot a ship, consider retaking a new pilot license session, where the instructor shouls say to you how to use a landing gear !
No offence intended !

RP off
:p

Hi Krait hope you solve this problem with your own incompetence, in the mean time I will be giving you a wide berth if I see you in game. :D

Then bind it out of the way of twitchy fingers... It's really not that complicated, nor should it be disabled just because someone can't stop hitting the wrong buttons.

Yes, we've all done it, but you should learn from mistakes and get on with it, not demand changes because of a lack of control.

Lol

Funny thread.

I've wasted myself 5 times in the station. Worst was fully armed Cobra and filled with all my money in cargo. Splat in the back of the station at 300 speed. The shock, sadness and self disgust. Back to sidewinder with 3 grand in the bank.

All part of the fun ;)

Reminds me of when I backed my real car in to a post. £140. Same sick feeling but amplified.

So I take it you fly with the flight and rotate assists constantly off then?

^ this is a classic logical fallacy: the logical fallacy of supposing that an argument proving an irrelevant point has proved the point at issue.

That people use other assist modes doesn't not mean that boost should be auto disabled in a station.

Why don't you just assign boost to a voice command or map it more sensibly in the first place?

I was thinking that boost should just randomly happen whenever you enter the station. We gotta mix it up a bit I think. Keep everyone on their toes!

Good question. I had thought the OP wanted the ability to disable boost in the station. How to do so was explained. More than once.
Yes and did you read my OP where I said it happened AFTER I had retracted my landing gear?!
Now it appears that what is desired is for boost to auto disable. That's not going to happen so I advise you to stop arguing about it and deal with the "problem" in whatever way works best for you. As the rest of us have.

Did this in a fully loaded Lakon 6 after I, 'thought', all my bindings were set up properly on new x55. Not sure how it happened to this day as all I remember doing was moving the throttles forward a tad. Needless to say, the only thing bound to boost now is va. ;)

hhmmmm sounds like classic ghost keypressing with the x55 to me. (I hope) I fixed mine by disabling usb support and using a usb3 slot direct into the mobo.

I see you'r point, but in the end all games have to be balanced,
or at least have toggels to make it harder or easier.

But the problem here is not that the descriped situation is unavoidable,
just don't press that button. As stated by others, how many trainingwheels
is needed to prevent stupidity. Not directed at the poster but more in general.
Games that have some challenge is more lasting.

Not at all. He was going on about how he didn't want a nanny game. So therefore it was entirely relevant to ask whether or not he made use of the 'nanny' aids the game provides. As for better mapping in the first place I didn't forsee the problem until it happened. Furthermore I posted this thread in pure humour. Some of the high horse, snobbish responses are rather amusing. Still that's the internet for you!

This is very bad forum practice. You should try not being so inflammatory and counterconstructive. Angry people on forums are irritating, and I'm sure that if you start being nice to people, they too will be nice back in a nice little feedback loop.

If you want to ''amuse'' yourself, there is always the off-topic forum where you can post threads in pure humour.
