Camping AI

Is it normal for AI to actually camp outside a port? I'm at Freeport and everytime I try to leave, a commander kills me in less than 10 seconds with his Viper. I've been killed 5 times and I can't keep losing money. And since I can't set a bounty on his head yet, I'm pretty much stuck here until he decides to leave. Any ideas?

-EDIT-

I just noticed... He's not AI. Man, I feel soooo stupid right now...

-2nd EDIT-

Oh, crap... I just realized... I've killed so many inocent people thinking they were AI... I feel terrible...

CMDR denotes a human player and as we are not permitted to name and shame people i advise editing your post to redact the name before a moderator does it.

unfortunately not all game mechanics to prevent this sort of action are in place yet, the best thing to do is save/quit to menu then restart in solo.

this will put you in a universe with you and NPC's but no human players so you can then leave the station and carry on playing.

*NOTE* solo mode and open mode both draw from and write to the same save so you will be in the same ship with the same credits, kills cargo ETC.

Interesting tip. Thanks for the help. Also, I just personalized my game name. I had no idea. I always thought that PCs were called CMND Backer ####. The more you know!

its an easy mistake to make, another tip for spotting them is humans show up as a hollow square on the radar, NPC's are a solid square. when hard points are deployed the square turns to a triangle but otherwise stays the same (hollow for human, solid for NPC's)

If it's the same guy that's been hanging around Freeport while I've been playing, he's pretty easy to get by both ways, if you know how to use the combo of FA off, silent running, and killing your drive. It's all a matter of timing to get close to the station, request a spot, and then gun it in. Getting out is easier, you just boost out once you've got the path clear, and again go dark with your ship. Last time I did it, I zoomed past him, and he either didn't see me, or couldn't lock on, so didn't bother. Lots of gold has gotten past him.

Also had him or someone else try to shoot me at the last minute as I was going in. Due to my mistake, I almost missing the entrance, so I spun around...turns out they shot at the same time, hit the station, and the fireworks from the station were glorious.
