Weather System? If so how deep would you like to see it?

I know we've talked about a weather system before, as of right now it does seem like something that won't happen until a 2.0. But leaving the "if" idea out. If Frontier were to ask what you would want to see in a Weather system, what would you want to see? How deeply should this effect the management?

Personally, I'd be happy with just a rain overlay at some point, with the use of umbrellas. If I could get anything I'd want i'd love to see the use of temperature, seasons and multiple weather scenarios. Such as snow, rain, thunder storms (heavy rain) , and maybe even some form of random disasters. ( that maybe a bit to extreme). I'd love to see if the weather drops below a certain point your customers just start to drop off. It would be amazing in these scenarios you'd have to make the choice to close the park for a time, or at least cut operations down heavily. Maybe have this happen on random? or maybe have this work within a whole segment of time like a full season!! I'd love to see the dynamic cloud system in the sky get put to even better use. Having the sky cloud up and clear up over time.

Getting back to the extreme side, would you want to see disasters in the game? Have a storm come through and possible destroy your creations? Would that be thrilling? or would that be horrendous?

There are obvious engine and tech limitations that hinder some of these ideas potential. And for the record I'm well aware that Frontier has made no such promises or claims for Planet Coaster. To me though its a fun to think about topic, and not to mention if Frontier were to implement even a little of this, I feel not only would it add to the management gameplay it would add to the visual ascetic of the game as well.

What do you think?

What is going on with this "2.0." mania recently? I think you guys hype yourself up a bit too much. I would expect big update for that occasion, that´s right, but nothing big related to the engine.

Anyway, overlay would be great. I would like it to impact gameplay mainly though.

rather than real-time weather changes i'd love to see the ambience of my parks changing through the 4 seasons winter, spring, summer and autumn especially effecting the flora. I'm quite sure that this wouldn't raise perfomance issues like rain, wind and snow would do. so that's really something Frontier would be able to add to the actual PC engine - a short delay when switching a season to re-render the entire park won't hurt the player as much as permanent cpu-costs during phases of rain or snow.

they are not going to add weather because it would slow things down even more. No I wouldn’t want a disaster to destroy my park and I can bet that nobody else would either. Some people spend a yr making one.

I would like a cloudy version of the Alpine map that triggers the lights to come on during the day. No rain needed just cloudy so it's not so bright. Some other maps would be good with this option too but I only ever use Alpine. That's all the weather I really want at this time.

I prefer to leave the weather out of PC. Sunshine makes people happy. And the game has day and night time cycles. Rain would make the game lag. Remember even high end rigs struggle to play this game. A game which is CPU intensive but still running on directx11. If the game were directx12 that would allow more than just one CPU core to be properly utilized.

I agree. Just some different skyboxes and clouds would be great. I want an unhappy gray sky so bad...[up]

Rain makes me happy. Sunshine is boring.

I see we are sliding a bit offtopic and discuss our weather preferences here :D.

You know, sunshine might make most people happy, but this game was supposed to be about making your guest happy and if it´s supposed to work that way, there must be some "challenges" that actually force you to work for the guest happines. Rain could be one of these little challenges. And actually realistic. On the other hand, from this stand point, weather is least of a problem of PC, so I don´t count with it and don´t rly need it.

I thought of this too when they mentioned weather would not be coming. My first thought was “ok at the very least can we have cloudy, semi cloudy days. Super sunny days that are hotter and male water rides more attractive”.

And even if not addinrg a temperature level to things that affects ride desirability, give us cloudy and darker sky’s at least. It’s just so...Bright and sunny all the time ha

Yeah, I always said I wouldn't mind not having weather because they said it wasn't possible or to hard, but these ideas are just the things that sound possible and could make playing more interesting. good suggestions! [up]

Totally agree with this, I'd love to see a surge and decrease in water ride interesting pending on things like temp

I don't think it needs to be too in-depth, original RCT games had the right idea. Clouds, rain, and lower temperatures decrease guest happiness and likeliness of riding coasters; the opposite makes people happier and more likely to ride coasters. I don't even "need" umbrella sales like the original games had.

Cool side-option: if there's lightning, coasters could close. But that's just extra.

Considering it's been 2.5 years since the alpha, I sincerely doubt 'we will get weather' [haha]

And yes the reason it didn't get added was because of performance issues if I remember correctly. The cobra engine looks great but unfortunately it doesn't perform that well.

Fingers crossed Planet Coaster 2 will fix/improve over everything Planet Coaster 1 didn't do right

For me umbrella sales are the point -- seeing the park bloom with opening umbrellas when it rains! But being able to control the colors of umbrellas that get sold per shop is also important, the current system for the balloons is (in my opinion) woefully inadequate.

A toggle on the ride to say if it was under shelter so the guest know and the camera can turn the rain off if you're close would be good. More difficult would be designating certain paths sections and queues as under shelter so guests don't open their umbrellas, but it should be doable.

Considering the vintage pack didnt even came a beach/sea biome I doubt we will ever see a different skybox.

I think unlike in the past when we've been told by Frontier certain things won't be coming to the game (i.e, Glass, Custom Music etc) weather will be a no no.

The reason being is, what would people consider as shelter for the guests to go and hide under if it starts raining? people don't just use roofs in their park to make buildings and structures, unless frontier made every object/scenery/building piece in game something that guests can go and hide under, but that'd not only be time consuming to program, it'd probably also be game breaking because not everything people build is above ground.

I like the idea of different temperatures, such as the snow biome being cold and guests being able to buy coats/scarfs and other stuff :3

Something that can't effectively be done one way often works well done differently -- in this case, if it costs to much for the guest brain to figure out what's under shelter and what isn't, let us tell it. I've said it before (so hopefully this isn't spamming): a toggle to designate any given ride as under shelter (so guests'll want to ride it even if it's raining), a way to designate certain path/queue areas as under shelter (so guests won't open their umbrellas there, maybe want to be there more when it's raining). Then if somebody wants to spoof the system by designation open air as sheltered, are they cheating anyone but themselves? And of course a toggle in Settings so people who don't wanna deal with weather don't have to.

Yep, me too. Nor will it mess with my suspension of disbelief if guests' clothing suddenly changes on certain dates.
