FaceTrackNoIR Guide with PS3 Cam

Thank you for your feedback. Not sure if the ir filter can be removed on the unit I ordered though.
I hope The Delanclip's leds are bright enough.

I bought a PS3 eye from Amazon about a month ago, and got a unit with a removable IR filter, so they're still out there, at least. Here are instructions with pictures, should that help:

http://codelaboratories.com/research/view/ps3-eye-disassembly

Note that in my case, "removal" was having at it with a Stanley Knife- so don't worry if you have to be a bit of an animal. Also remember that the camera only cost a few quid- so you can just go for it. Just don't cut yourself.

(If you have a scalpel from a craft shop, it might be easier..)

Here's a link to a post with some info if you need to swap lenses or want a new one without a filter.

Thank you for the driver, Rog.
I've just received the PS3 cam this morning. Unfortunately it's the new model with the flat lens not the curbed one. So that means that the lens would be destroyed if I try to remove the ir filter.

Hopefully some units are working fine with just a band pass.
Not in the mood for swapping lenses at the moment but thank you for the links.:)

Edit: Good news, It's the SLEH-0048 model with the curved lens not the flat one as I thought.
So maybe I don't need to disassembly it at all like that guy did

With the PS3 Eye and IR clip with pointracker. Your better off using FacetracknoIR's sibling app. Opentrack. It gets more updates than facetrack but only uses opensource addons.

With it you get accella v4 (FTNOIR has 2) which is noticeably smoother.

It also goes beyond 99fps. PS3Eye cam can do 120 -180fps at 320x240 in opentrack.

Thanks for this Antmax, got it working perfectly with ED and my homebuilt 3 point IR Clip. :D

I've just received my Delan Clip whose leds are detected fine with the filter included upon the lens.

FTnoir is working fine but I have issues in game like image tearing during headlook movement.

So I downloaded Open track which resolved my tearing issue but I can't calibrate the "octopus" properly. My headlook is drifting on the yaw and on the pitch axis when I don't move by default unlike FTnoir where I have no such issue.

Frustrating.

It doesn't need the Facetracknoir Supported Games.csv

The file people are downloading was originally written for opentrack and is included in the last few builds.

If you want a link to opentrack. The github is here with the dropbox link to the latest releases.

https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack

You can see that functionally it's almost identical to FTNOIR. See the pic below.

Opentrack did not run properly with my setup and seems to crash ... Facetrack Noir seems to do a much better job not crashing.

Made my own "Delan Clip" that sit on my spectacle frame. Ugly but works like a charm XD

lol nice clip. Indeed as long as it's working... it's that matters the most.;)

Finally it was the roll mapping which messed with calibrating. The roll curve needed to be flat with my settings.
Can't tell if OT 2.2a would crash but it's much smooth than FTNoir.
Working fine for the moment.

hawkenfox, with the info (none, whatsoever) provided, there's nothing to address in your post unfortunately.

Likely filter settings wrong. Also ensure that model settings accurate enough.

Thanks for the guide OP. :) I had figured out most things in advance pretty much but this was still nice help to follow and ensure all went ok.

Haven't had plenty of time with it yet, and need to adjust things to my liking, but it's working ok nevertheless. =)

Only thing I'd hope is that the tracking would work kind of like the joystick look (usually hat with sticks), so that you could enable/disable it with the button. And then when disabled the quick buttons for the hud menus (nav/modules etc.) would work again.
I guess now it's not possible to have like that?

Yes, it's an issue that quick hotkeys are disabled when using head tracking.
There was a thread about it recently if you are interested.
I and many commanders have created a new ticket on the issue. I suggest you do the same. Maybe FD will be more aware about it as it's no high priority on their todo list.

One thing needed to be said for a while now.

Antmax, thanks for your promotion of the project, and user support on this forum.

If you're dedicated to it, consider taking up QA role within it.

cheers,

Anybody else had trouble with ED losing the head tracking after starting a new session? It's weird... It will work great for a while, but after rebooting and coming back it's like ED can't see FTNOIR anymore. The software is still running with all of the same settings and is still tracking fine in the test window and all the XYZ inputs change as they should, but the inputs don't seem to be making it into the game.

I have been getting around it by replacing the settings .csv file, which I guess resets something either in FTNOIR or ED to re-establish the connection. I was just wondering if there's a way to reset it in game.

Thanks!

ED not detecting open track

Hi,

I am having problems setting up ED and open track. I set up open track and calibrate etc. then I start ED, and it doesnt detect im using head tracking. Maybe I am missing something? Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

If you are just using FaceTrack with a cam maybe you need to modify your mapping curves. Unlike FTnoir, mapping curves are flat by default in OpenTrack.
So the tracking wouldn't work in ED.

If you are using Pointtracker, you need also to put your model dimensions before calibrating.

I finally ended up with opentrack and an PS3 Eye.
FaceTrackNoIR gave me problems to be seen by ED. In the tracker Software it worked but not in ED.
Opentrack is flawless for now.

I did NOT modify my PS3 Eye (Bad to modify version by the way), what I use is a piece of Diafilm Material as suggested. The Test with a floppy disk piece was to dim. It took a lot of brightness from the IR Leds away. The Dia Piece is perfect, almost 180 degr. sensing.

For LED, I took them from old remotes.

I am a little confused by all the versions of the tracker software around.
Opentrack seems to be the most alive software, regular updates.

Is there an Installer avail? I downloaded the win exe from git.hub. Its a folder called install but there is nothing to install, or did I miss something?
