Custom Music Satus

From what I understand, the issue with custom music in the game isn't its paring to rides, but the tools they use to import the music into the game engine.

IIRC it requires some software to import the music into the game engine so it can be used. Probably okay and learnable for the many PC enthusiasts, but probably too difficult for the casual gamer. They want to make it simpler to do.

Hopefully, even if they can't simplify the process, they will give us access to the tool so we can at least give it a go.

Yes, i hope so as well... or at least make it possible to assign music to the VFX effects.

It does make me wonder, will it be possible to change/silence the default music on rides?

For example i like the Rocktupus music, but can i change it to another tune? Or turn it off alltogether?
(It isn't possible right now, but will it be in the future?)

I like the idea of a VFX audio effects object. It's hard to wrap my head around the technical limitations of the audio when I think of the computing power of modern cpu's! I've watched, listened, and read the various comments made by the development team and the enthusiasts. Not meaning to sound negative in any way, but man, I would have thought custom audio would have been right up there on the list while in the initial development. (as in day one software development outline). When I think of Cryengine or Unity, Unreal, I'd think a short simple script to direct an audio object to the correct file path would be a very simple task. The variables for the listening cone/etc.. would also just be as easy to implement. Obviously, the Cobra engine or whatever beast they are using has a similar audio object as all other game engines. So, can't just be a matter of saying something along the lines that it would stress the system or the engine. Who knows... maybe I'm just talking out of my rear speaker [squeeeeee]

I am looking forward to the future updates and I'll hope that this subject matter will be addressed in some fashion. Me personally, missing the audio UGC is sort of a major disappointment. Although, I was happy to spend the $75.00 to be part of the alpha. Just can't imagine the eventuality of VR custom built parks with no say in a major immersion tool such as audio. As it stands, I think the parks are already missing path 'ambient' audio. I assume that is something in the works.

I don't really need/want custom music. If I want to listen to music, there's this amazing thing called a smartphone.

The thing I like about the music Frontier put into Planet Coaster, is it must not be copyright. YouTube isn't flagging our gameplay music with copyright notifications. Maybe Frontier if they own the music is being lenient. Thanks heaps if they do. Don't let agencies handle it as they can be strict and then get YouTube to Mute, block in all countries which results in a Strike, or block in Germany or some countries, or run ads. It's nice to have game music in our videos and be able to share them online.

The music in the game is really good, especially the menu music and tuck shops music and the pirate band music. You won't get copyright notices if you share gameplay videos with this music in it, on YouTube. It's, I'll put it this way, delicious, that we can share gameplay videos with game music without worrying about anyone hitting us with copyright alerts. I know some games have copyright music which can be strictly managed. But not with this game. And I thank Frontier for this.

Did you ever walk around in a Theme Park while listening to your smartphone?

Im not trying to start another dicussion here but i just can't resist to not replying [mouth shut]

It's not the fact i want to listen to music while playing. You imply listening to music and playing the game are 2 different things. I dont want to "listen" to the music i want it to be -part- of the game, or part of my ride.

What happens when you silence the "its a small world" theme of the ride? Or mute the "Yo-ho yo-ho a pirate's life for me" in Pirates of the Caribbean? I guarantee the music is part of the succes of the ride. It adds a great deal of atmosphere to a ride.

Please go and watch some youtube video's of certain darkrides like "Fata Morgana" and "Droomvlucht" from a park called "De Efteling". You will see that a good ride doesn't just consist of just a track. It's the track, the theming, the story, the music...

Thats why i want this custom music so badly, not to listen to it, but to give the finishing touch to the ride's atmosphere.

That beign said, i 100% agree that the ingame sounds and themes are awesome!! No denying that... but the creativity to build rides, coasters and theming are endless, and so such is the music we need to fit all those endless creations.

If there was ever a time to use 'DITTO', this is it! [yesnod][up][squeeeeee]

This is about 'Theme' & atmosphere'! Don't forget, the music isn't the same throughout a ride or a park. Even as PC has already done a great job with, even certain objects have a specific sound track associated with them. (pirates come to mind). As some may recall, even adding well placed custom speaker objects in RCT3 would make up for what might have been lacking in graphics or details. I think the key word is immersion. I already see talk of replicating Disney Main street in PC. How stink'n silly would this be without some traditional Disney style whimsical atmosphere sound tracks? Sure, PC can select some public domain tracks, but I want the ability to add authentic tracks from my own collection.

Not sure about others, but is the real end game just to show off what you can do on youtube and get the most views? I guess I'm not in that mindset, as I could care less about what others think of my 'game play', but rather I'm looking forward to the creative experience and the satisfaction of building 'disney' themed attraction on the latest technology and software/graphics. At the end of the day, UGC/mods*including the sound element) is what keeps a gaming community going. If that aspect of gaming is off the table and Frontier closes that door, there are other games/theme park simulations out there. I won't beat a dead horse. I purchased PC already and love it. Just won't be the game I invest much time into creating and experimenting. I'll move on and hope other game makers can step up their quality level to Frontier, along with offering an extensive UGC tool set so the sky is truly the limit.

Has any mentioned Spotify integration for music? That should get around some legal issues I would have thought. It would mean you wouldn't be able to edit your own audio tracks but worth a thought.

I'm afraid I can't comment on the status of custom music, but I can briefly comment on this. Planet Coaster is a game of extremes - we can be dealing with tens, or even hundreds of thousands of "objects", whether they are crowd members, wall pieces, animated krakens or speakers. As such, we've had to take a very different technical strategy for many things, including audio. When we talked about this at the beginning of the project, the wonderful audio team here were very sceptical - this was an entirely new way of doing things. But the results they've achieved are absolutely stunning. I'm sure they'll want any future musical experiences to be just as stunning, and honestly it's not just as simple as running a script.

Cheers

Hi Andy, Thanks for taking time to comment on this subject matter. Means a lot! I appreciate what you are saying and understand. Everything has been stunning in the game thus far. There are so many aspects of the game that go beyond what I ever expected possible. However, for me personally, sound effects, audio theme, and customizing of such is right up at the top of the expectations for simulation/gaming experience. Realizing there's more to come, I'll wait patiently and hope for more surprises ahead relating to audio [up][big grin]. Thanks.

Speakers confirmed [big grin].

Just Kidding

Hahaha i love it when things get taken out of context so abrubtly [big grin]

No, in all seriousness, thank you Andy for your reply.
And in no way shape or form do i want to say anything negative about the sound theme as everything we have is awesome, and they have done an amazing job so far.

And i understand you can't give an update on custom music, but i "had" to try anyway. And thanks Grumpka, seems like we're on the same page on how important music is for a ride experience.

Hopefully we will have some news about it soon. (Even if it will be possile to do in non-official ways like UGC sound boxes)
