General / Off-Topic E3 - 2016

E3

Will we see some good new reveals of Planet Coaster during E3? In addition to there ordinary live streams and diaries during this spring. What do you hope for? [happy]

I placed this thread in the off topic section so we can discuss Everything about E3.

I'm a big Zelda fan, so of course Zelda "Wii U" is the big hype I'm waiting for. However, E3 are for revealing completly new stuff as well. I wonder what they have up there sleves?

Right now I Watch IGN stream clip on Youtube to follow up all news from the first Conference day.

I think E3 has been pretty meh so far this year, seems like everything was revealed before the actual press conferences. Hopefully Sony will reveal something cool (I'm a Playstation fanboy)

Wow Sony just hands down won E3. The Bandicoot is back!

Sony owned. That was the kind of E3 conference you want to get but usually never do. It's only every 3-5 years or so you get a conference that good. They delivered and I love how they showed why you want to get into VR. I'm such a huge VR believer and I'm so happy to see them deliver a punch with their support even though I'm a vive guy. [tongue] They just convinced me to be a Sony guy too!

E3 is becoming increasingly underwhelming each year and it will continue to do so. At least Sony knocked it out the park. Spider-man and God of War are looking promising. It was also good to see some gameplay from Dishonored 2. I really enjoyed the first one so I can't wait for the sequel.

I think David Braben agrees with you. Yesterday I read an article he wrote questioning the value of E3, and in fact all forms of big flashy games marketing in the modern era of internet review driven purchasing. I agreed with it all!

And I was going to post a link, but I can't find it anywhere - I think it was Frontiers corporate site but may have been pulled for some reason.

Crash Bandicoot was leaked about 2 months ago in regards of coming back. So there there is no real new news from E3 this year.

Is it not the second time Sony won the E3 ?

I don't remember if it was the E3, but I remember when they talked about FF7-Reboot and a new Shenmue, and the audience was like "OMG OMG OMG OMG" [big grin]

Anyway ...

He is right. I agree with it too.

I think more and more studios see it that way as well. Back in the day when we had to wait a month for a new magazine to get any news it was relevant but now that most people have access to the internet in the palm of their hands it just isn't as big a deal. They can release information about upcoming games whenever they like now and know it will reach their target audience. The days where big new information was generally held back until E3 are long gone.

I think it's especially true for anyone making a true 'quality' product like PC and Elite. And Cities:Skylines, for example. At the end of the day a good game will be played for hundreds if not thousands of hours, so anyone making a quality game should be able to trust that people will discover it eventually even if they do... pretty much nothing to market it. Obviously still important to release a few trailers to show people what the game does, just to get the ball rolling. But the truth is that really great games don't come round that often - so if you make one, it's a safe bet it won't stay secret for very long.

I imagine Braben's recent business plan for Frontier is something like this:

1) Everything has to pass a very high level of quality. Quality quality quality.
2) Money and success will look after themselves.

Whereas some other publishers *cough*:

1) Work out the minimum quality we can get away with and give the work to the cheapest bidder.
2) Cross fingers, hope no one makes a much higher quality game in the same genre...

Which incidentally happened to Atari. Ooops

Pretty sure that is directly what Deuce was hinting at without stating it [big grin]

*shocked*

Accusing me of pointing the finger at Atari? Just because they're a money grabbing, out dated, incompetent and dishonest operation doesn't automatically mean I have a problem with them.

I would say Bethesda felt like a Winner this year. They showed off title after title. How many Project can that studio do at the same time? [woah]

Sonys presentation was interesting as well. A lot of "nature " games. Every trailer started with a big landscape view. x-D
However, not so much gameplay. There were some games that look very interesting though. I liked the one were you played a ranger women and tamed a robot bull or the one with a boy and his big feather monster. [happy]

The only thing interested me in Microsoft presentation was about Minecraft.

Nintendo gave some big show about Zelda: Breath of the wild yesterday. The game looks really awesome and the gameplay element feels fun and engaged me a lot. [hehe]
However, Nintendo haven't presented any new title at all and I haven't much to look forward to for my 3DS or Wii U this fall. I guess more time for Planet Coaster. [tongue]

EA, well I'm not sure if they can take any credit for Unravel. And now they take even more hope in putting money in Swedish indie studios. This concerns me because I'm Swedish and hope it goes well for those studios. EA scares me, they eat studios and kills them. They showed up a new game in some kind of dark twilight-ish nature world made form a studio from Goteborg, Sweden.

Horizon Zero Dawn? That game does look quite promising and is one I'll be keeping an eye on.

Zelda looked awesome. The franchise has needed a bit of a format revamp for a while and it looks like Nintendo might finally giving it one. It seems to have quite a few new features and it will be interesting to see how having a proper open world will change the games structure.

you mean "The last Guardian?" A Game that should have been out ten or more years ago? It's gonna get delayed again just you watch ^^

I can't help but think that because of how long we've been waiting for The Last Guardian that even if it is a good game, it's going to struggle to live up to expectations.
