Product Update - Planet Coaster is coming to Steam

Sure, if you have only 50€ a week to live from you just don't eat for a couple of days. no problem

I rather have that as minimal requirement, than a truckload full of scammer bots :( seriously they were everywhere. this makes it harder for them and that is a good thing (besides, 5 euro is a low entry and half the price for a kilo of good spareribs) so actually, instead of blaming good companies like frontier. we should blame the hundreds of scammers that flooded steam with fake accounts just to gain access to digital items and accounts to steal the money :(

This is terrific news. Especially the Steam Workshop support for online features. This paves the way for modding/UGC official support down the line, something that has been asked A LOT of times here!

Hey everyone!

We have exciting news and some important information for all Planet Coaster Pre Order members including Early bird bundle, Coaster Head bundle, Deluxe bundle and standard pre order.

After many requests we have decided to re-assure you by confirming early that Planet Coaster will be available on Steam. Every one of our amazing community of players and future players who have already ordered the game will be able to generate a free Steam key from our Frontier Store which they can add to their Steam game library.
We can also reveal today that Alpha 3 will be released on 23 August - we’re really excited to share development progress with you!

Another benefit of announcing Steam integration early is that the community features that debut in Planet Coaster’s Alpha 3 build on Steamworks functionality so we can prioritise and test the Steam support as early as possible.

Although Alpha will not be available to buy through Steam, if you are an Alpha player you will need to have a Steam account to access Alpha 3. This is because we are adding Steamworks at this stage in the development. We will contact you nearer the time with details on how to redeem your free Steam key.

Finally, we wanted to let you know that we are going to be closing Alpha to new players on 25 August. Current Alpha players or those who upgrade or order before that date will continue to be able to play the Alpha until just before Beta (dates to be announced in due course), and we will continue to support the Alpha until that time.

We have a detailed FAQ available here including details on how to create a free Steam account if you don’t already have one - please do take a look and if you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

Now that's an awesome birthday gift [yesnod][big grin]

I don't want or need to share stuff. I don't want or need another program to launch a game that already has a launcher. I don't own lots of games, and don't need or want Steam installed..

It would just mean you uninstall the Frontier Launcher and install Steam. I don't get all the fuss. Obviously a lot of people asked for Steam, otherwise they wouldn't be there. I don't have a lot of games either and only one game on Steam (that i don't play)..
Would be nice if people didn't have limited access though, PC should Count towards that 5 dollar.
Peace out.

Im pretty sure UGC was already a confirmed feature for after release :)

"Jonny Watts :
So, as we've already said; on the Q&A that John Laws did. Is that, we are interested in doing UGC the way you've said it; but it's not for release. [...]"
Thanks for this Vampiro.

I'm curious if this move to Steam will mean that we will get custom scenery support prior to release.
You know, I think I remember seeing this but forgot. Let me tell you ... *teenage girl squeal* RTCW can go in the trash now. My kids would love to make a FNAF or Minecraft style theme park. I totally expect these things to appear in the workshop once that day comes.
I was wondering this as well but I didn't want to say it [cool]. I hope for Vampiro's sake that music will be a part of it if they do have it [big grin]
I feel like this would not be something in the workshop. Too much of a chance for copyrighted material/songs being shared. If there will be custom music, it would have to be loaded from local libraries/folders.

I tend to agree with this poster. I have a Steam account, but just dislike the platform. Anyway at least we've got a few months warning so it's fine.

So will I loose the park I have made so far and will I lose all the coasters that I built? I have made some great ones and will the info and account be saved ? I would like to have saved the Coasters.

Thank you any info

If it goes the same way as Pariktect did, everything will be fine with your old data. Only the launcher will be replaced by the Steam App and Updates will come through Steam.

Great news!
I fought steam for a while (many years ago) for reasons i don't know anymore. Although i'm not a hardcore game with hundreds of games in my library (i think i have around 30) i really appreciate the "control center" feeling of steam with automatic updated [yesnod]

They will certainly try to maintain compatibility as much as possible, but in the end it's an alpha and up until release you could lose everything at any time. So brace yourself at all times [noob]

I am all for everyone wanting this on steam. Me myself, I dislike steam. Having a launcher for a game is fine, but steam is one that I really cant stand. Its the same with EAs launcher, I no longer buy EA games because of it.

Shame really, to implement a requirement for something that I have paid for already.

What ever happened to games that you could buy, install, and play? Why do we have to network every game with steam or some such add ware product.

RCT3 did an amazing job without all of the added nonsense, why so many asked for this is beyond me.

Why does Steam irk you so much? It's no harder to launch a game from there than from Frontier's launcher. You could even create a shortcut to the game to avoid having to navigate Steam's user interface.

As to RCT3, modding required you to mess around with files directly, or install 3rd party software to do it for you. Frontier have chosen to *officially* support sharing this time and have chosen one of the most ubiquitous libraries in Steamworks. They could have rolled their own but that would have meant months of extra work with stability problems along the way, and the possibility that if Frontier ever close down we lose the sharing ability. This is probably the best solution for everyone, even though it might put a minority of noses out of joint.

just one point should every body have received a email iget all forum stuff but nothing from Frontier and checked all my spam and subscription settings
