Be forewarned about something I found on in the Workshop

So, it seems there is at least one practical joker on Steam. I subscribed to someone's piece of work in the workshop. It's just the Pirate "Barrel Slide" prop. But they called it "Time Paradox", and I thought it looked cool. It looked like they were going for a continuous, unending, streaming barrel roll. Nice idea in theory. In practice, not so much. I put it in my park, and suddenly it practically froze my game. I only have a bit less then a quarter of the park space used (no guests yet...I like to wait until I have a bit of stuff to offer them before I let them in). But the frame rate dropped visibly to maybe just a few fps. So I go to delete it, right? Well, I've been deleting it for about an hour now, and it's still there. I'm thinking, does this guy have a few hundred copies of the thing overlaid? I looked at the price of the thing...$14,360! Do the math - at a cost of $2, that means there are well over 7,000 copies of the prop! I mean, I knew what the guy was doing with multiple overlays, I just didn't realize the degree to which he was doing it!

Well, it just occurred to me to check my auto-saves. Fortunately, the second and last ones happened before I put this stupid thing in there, so I just loaded the most current one and re-saved it. Thank God for auto-save! It just made it so I won't spend my whole long weekend deleting this freaking thing! I could just start over, but I have such a nice park going...Don't feel like trying to re-do it.

I won't give the person's Steam username, unless the mods feel it is appropriate to do so. But DO NOT - I repeat, DO NOT EVER subscribe to this thing called "Time Paradox"!! Or at least don't put it in a park! Christ! There's an hour or so I won't get back...

This is why, I don't tend to mod my games. I have just subscribed to the celebrities submissions do to so many dodgy assets. I admit I do prefer the Planet Coaster handles buildings and stuff as its just done with in game items and shouldn't be affected much with patches.

My time is precious and the workshop is swamped with even my own test bulidings. its going to get even worse due to how easily it is to submit items. There is both Pro's and Con's to this.

When the game launches, and the workshop starts to be used a lot, then these things will get found. I always look at the rating and number of downloads. I can't remember if you can write reviews on workshop items (as far as I can remember, you can), but I loook at those as well.

It's a bit difficult at the moment, granted, but then that's the risk you take I guess.

I always save a backup before I install any mods anyway. I've learnt from bitter experience on that one!

I suppose the multi box selector would come in handy for something like this - except that I don't know how to use it, and...I didn't think of it in the first place. But thanks for the suggestion on that. I'll remember that for the future. But as I said, I loaded an auto save that didn't have the problem prop, and just saved again. Now I'm back to building my park - as it should be.

I saw that one and just thought it was a stupid meaningless thing to have and waste of object count and did not subscribe.

I guess, to each their own.

I'll be unsubscribing it...like I said, looked like a cool idea, but - live and learn... This thing would make an empty park space lurch for fps...

Surprised this kind of thing didn't happen quicker. Weird thing is though, isn't there a 1000 object limit? So how did he add 7,000?

I have thumbs downed that blueprint.[down] I didn't report it. Maybe on a faster computer it would have worked OKish. OK now I want to try it. [wacky]

I should clarify that I don't think we should thumbs down things that make our computer run slow. What makes your computer run slow, may not slow down someone elses.

In the case of this one item, I think the person found the effect of many barrels rolling down in a snake formation to look cool, and on their computer it didn't slow it down. They thought it was cool enough to share.

Edit: My computer was able to run a few of them placed down just fine. [haha] Since all the animations start on the same frame with the new game load, sadly the cool effect that the blueprint picture shows wasn't there.

I wrote a note letting the author know that the animations all reset.

Still looks like a troll upload to me.

TIME PARADOX!!!

the name gives away the fact that its a troll, a bit clever i suppose but think about it... the "time paradox" will freeze/slowdown your game
[haha]
