Copied content in steam workshop.

You can give me the dictionary definition of Copyright all day long and I will continue to not care, but content created by modders (or artists and content creators) is licensed under creative commons and belongs to the creator. You can't make money off it since the assets belong to Frontier, but the actual created piece is the owned creation of its creator. What you're arguing is like saying an artist doesn't have the right to his own sketches because he used a Staedler pencil instead of drawing it in his own blood.

Fine, I just think that claiming any copyright on the items posted on the Workshop is not one but maybe 3 steps beyond any sensible line.

Perhaps yes it could get a bit silly. However there is something to be said about pouring your heart into creating something, only for someone else to soak up all the praise for what you did. I may not be issuing any DMCA notices but I sure would be unhappy if my art was stolen.

Then again I have a different perspective as I'm a musician, and would likely get my leg-breaking bt out if people started stealing my songs.

For you as a performing artist, I can totally understand your idea and opinion on this matter, of which, like I stated before don't disagree on.

On the level of the Workshop from Steam I am the kind of person who says, I'm not too bothered about it and leave those people who copy in their own miserable life with no imagination.

...Any guy can steal any creation at any time and publish it on the workshop by posing as his creator with impunity

Yup! Had this happen to me. I worked on an entire park for a month and uploaded it on Jan 5.

1 week later, another author did a "File - Save As," and even submitted the park to a YouTube gaming channel as if it was his/her own work. The park was then featured on the channel. Just search the Workshop for "Dorney Park" and you can see my original version and at least 2 clones.

I understand any user can and should be free to download and use content - hence the point of uploading so others can enjoy. However, in the spirit of working for Disney Co., it is "bad show" to go ahead and take credit for someone else's work...at least thank him/her in the comments!

Would you mind if I used buildings from your park for my Dorney Park or modified your park to finish it, and put in the new bumper cars and troika replacing Hang Time and Screaming Swing? Bumper cars and Troika are new this year. I live near Dorney Park. I started mine before yours came out. I didn't get very far. Someone made a Dorney Park entrance building (the one with the clock tower where you buy tickets, not the admission gates) that looks better than yours in your park.

To finish, I was right and I had a right on my creation called * copyright *

Here is a part of Steam's message that I received:

Here is the proof that anyone who thinks they have been copied in part or totally, has a copyright, to make a complaint, it is enough to make a complaint by clicking on the flag at the bottom right of the steam workshop page of the creation concerned.
If your object has been copied, Steam will delete the copied content.

And to show you how far the bad faith of thieves can go, here is the message that the copier sent me by email following the deletion of its copied content (I blurred the insults and the coordinates)

He then came on my creation to put a negative evaluation and a beautiful hateful comment ....
People make me laugh...

This is just plain sad the way he responds. I see he is dutch. I don't want to be linked in anyway with him.

So he knew he copied, you filed a complaint (which is your very good right to do so), and he responded to you because he knew it was your original work.

sad, sad, sad.

Hmmm I'm a little suspicious about a couple of uploads.... (I refer to them here by their initials and not their user name as I'm not sure on the forum rules)

This upload, uploaded 30 dec 2017

So I subscribed and placed them side by side...

The caves are almost identical apart from a small rock added to the rear left and a large rock added to the right.

The pizza shops are identical, with just 1 pizza slice being removed!

We need the full story here, did you report this? Did you already an answer?
Or do you not even care about it and leave those kiddies be?!

I always add a little marking into the workshop, like a stone that's colored a bit differently so I can identify if it's a copy or we just had the same idea. I found some copies back on the workshop but they never got a lot of downloads so I ignored them :). I don't mind if they used mine as inspiration but would be nice if they just say it in the description.

I did think of reporting it, but I don't think I can because he/she added a rock to one and removed a pizza slice from another so that it's not exactly the same.

I'm not super upset, just a little irked that someone would take someone else's work and pass it off as their own. I really don't mind when my stuff is re-uploaded in a park and I don't care about credits. (The way I look at it is, the park is actually the creation and all the credit goes to the park maker.) I just don't see the sense in re-uploading single items that are already in the workshop that someone else has made, claiming you made them! ..... If any of that makes sense! It also annoys me that they took the screens at different angles and lighting to make them appear different. Not cool [down]

Come on guys, thats the way of commerce ...
Frontier saves its own work so it cant be copied and get stolen, but you dont get a chance to ... very lovefully from Frontier ... hmmm [uhh]
Other people make money on youtube with parks and stuff that YOU created and shared ... is this fair ? hmm ..... [uhh] you only pay, but never get paid for something ...

At least Frontier could do following to get this problem easy solved, but it seems that they wont do it, because it dont make THEM money, because it "only" is for their customers, I told this idea some times before:

They could create an overview-info which tells /show every item that was downloaded from workshop and is included.
So you can see which parts from workshop are used in this park (or workshop-item).
You get a fast and easy list of all stuff that was not created by the actual owner of that park / item.
As addition it should be nice to have a single button to delete a selected item out of that list, so that all objects that depent on that single workshop-item are removed and so the item in the list-overview removes too.

This is the easy way to solve this problem, all other is dumb, because it makes lots of work to a lot of people (communicate, compare, delete, debate, ...) ... why not doing easy and effective ?

So if you think someone uses your item, you can download his park, watch into the list and, if you are right, you find the name of your item in that overview, that indicates that there is at least one single object present that belongsa to your own creation and is re-used in that park.

I feel concerned about this post and i did not comment so far.... I'm french and doing my best in english....

I am a terribly bad builder, i have tried many times, my buildings and creations looks horribly bad, my coasters are boring and my creativity to start from scratch is non-existant....

I built a very nice park called ''HELLRAISER 2'' 100% horror themed park witch is made out of 100% other person's blueprints. I spent countless hours looking for the best horror themed blueprints out there.... I think the result is amazing ( HELLRAISER 3 is on it's way building it since the release of spooky DLC '') When i uploaded my park, in the description i told the truth, giving FULL credits to the exceptional talent of the creators of the items i chose.... I took credit only about the selection of them, build the perfect horror park of my dreams with in my opinion a good imaginative and functional layout.

The way i see it, if your blueprint is in my park, you can be very proud of yourself because it means it's amazing work. Everything in my park is amazing, and that's what i was good about, making the greatest selection and arrangements with them. That's the way i really feel about the blueprints i use.... I have the greatest respect for the builders who gave me the opportunity the create the park of my dreams. My park is a glowing tribute to the builders who spent hours creating those amazing pieces of artwork....

That being said...

I'm very good at using lighting effect to enhance what's already have been done....
I'm also very good at downsizing blueprints so they have less impact on the CPU's performances. As an exemple a huge creepy manor was built out of almost 4000 pieces, i was able to bring it down to almost half of it to 2300 pieces without any changes to it's exterior look.... That's what i'm good at.... So in these cases, yes i upload the ''new'' blueprint so others can use it. I'm not good at building, but taking out pieces and lighting arrangements can be as time demanding and requires another kind of talent. When i upload those ''new'' blueprints, i always put in the description that i take absolutely no credit for it, that it's only a modified version of an exceptional artwork....

Again, the way i see it, using another's blueprint is a tribute to it's creator.

I get that trying to take credit for other's work is plain stupid, i've never done that, not even close, to the contrary i try to give it away as much as i can...

That also being said....

This post is going way too far.... copyrights? Official reports and deletion? As someone said before this is not one step out of bounds but more 3 or 4....

The workshop is based on SHARING your work.... You feel proud when a thousand persons upload your work? GREAT you deserve it.... You want to get the recognition? I get it, your ''downloaders'' is the recongnition itself...

But once it's out there, it's out there, you can't try to CONTROL what others are using it for. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully against ''stealing'' the creation and take credit for it, but those are idiots and trying to adapt the world for some idiots is.... IDIOT itself!!! Just let them think they are good, so what???? You are a good builder? Then just know you are good!!! Where is the need for more? Take it as a tribute to your own work and like the song says, let it be, let it be, let it be..........

You don't agree with me? You probably know you can save your plan WITHOUT uploading it to the workshop??? Well just do that then, this is THE solution, just don't share it!!!!!!!

The only reason to upload it is to share and at the same time get some recognition for our work, if you desire more than that just don't share

This whole post is about the same thing as if the cutest young woman would pose in the nude, share it on internet, and then trying to control what mens are doing with it or if they go around claiming she's their girlfriend???????????

Just take it for what it is, some idiots that has no lifes, don't worry, be happy..... Whisper words of wisdom, let it be......

One problem is we only have so much to work with so some things are just going to happen over and over with some degree of similarity. If there is a pattern with someone, yeah that might be an issue.

I don't think that anyone has a problem with others using a blueprint someone made in there park that's why they get uploaded and to show the brilliant creation they have made people spent endless hours building these, When they build it they own when they upload it they still own it just because they have put it on the workshop for others to use does not mean they are giving it away for someone else to take credit for it that's how all digital property works.

Try downloading a movie and then uploading it onto YouTube for others to watch it wont be there for long as the copyright holders will be all over it and again they might have uploaded for people to watch but that is not saying you can redistribute it.

Downloading a blueprint and using it in your park then uploading the park seems fine i doubt that anyone has a problem with that as that is likely the main reason it was uploaded the problem only starts when it uploaded by a 3rd party that has no rite over the creation.

And you couldn't take a Coca-Cola logo and change the colour of it then use it as its still the work of someone else and has a copyright.

People putting maybe a 100 hours into a building have every rite to get pis**d when someone steels their creations i know i would.
