I'm Bad at Coasters

Does anyone have any hints or tips to coaster creation? My first one was terrible. I can't quite figure out the system. Or does it just take a little time to get familiar?

A lot of it is knowing how real coasters are designed and built. A basic grasp of physics and G-force also helps in maintaining realistic feeling coasters. So try and regulate the speed with hills, dont put super sharp bends in high speed sections, ease into banked corners gently to maintain smoothness and plan ahead. Oh and dont forget the Smoothy smooth tool [happy]. Once your coaster is completed go through each section and apply the smooth tool to help remove rough areas.

Here is an example of one I build yesterday:

You watched the stream[wink]

One thing that helps is turning angle snapping off for some parts to have a little bit more freedom when you build. I do hope they allow us to build any angle when the editor is final. I can't make any steep drops, or even make the track go upside down which could be used for custom inversions. Also, some of the inversions are inverted. Like the immilman loops, they are like they should be on an inverted coaster. But I overall enjoy the editor.

What is the smooth tool? I sadly didn't watch the stream.

With the smooth tool, you select a node on the track, and press smooth - it smooths out that section of track to be more "smooth". it might take a couple of clicks of several different sections on a bend to get a nice smooth bend.

hehe Smoothy Smooth tool - Yea the live stream was quite funny, and had some nice tips - loved the "wireframe" node selection feature (to come in phase 2).
