Will Game Specs Change?

Will specs change with final release?

My computer not the best, but want to buy In November to play this awesome game.

Theme park Studio is too hard to play and RCT world is a joke.

My current specs are as follows:

Processor is I7 920 2.67
Just added 1 TB hard drive

24 gigs of ram
NVidia GTX 970 4 GB card

Should I be able to play on med settings with larger park and rides with min slow down

I saw med and low settings and you really can't tell the diff between those settings and the High settings.

Processor upgrade might be in order; that sucker is five or more generations old.

Everything else is good but you'll probably struggle even on medium once the park begins to fill out.

Specs are always difficult to nail down as they will go up as more things are added to the game and go down when optimisation passes are added.

Saying that your CPU is 8 years old ... Time for a change!

The 970 should be ok for now though, but again I would still consider upgrading that to something like an RX480 or 1060/1070 (whatever you can afford). But yeah CPU/Memory/Motherboard is going to be first on the list.

The 920 you have was a very good choice for longevity when you bought it, it must have certainly earned its money by now. [heart]

Its' performance nowadays is close to an i3 4170 (what it loses in cores it gains in single core performance), I think it would be prudent to upgrade it after all those years. Sadly, this means a new mobo too.

The minimum requirements for Planet coaster list an i5-2300 or a FX 4300 for the game. Both of the above processors are faster than the 920, and the minimum requirements might go up by launch (or not, we don't really know currently).

I would suggest you buy on November, and if you see that the performance is not adequate upgrade then. I think you should be able to run the game with low/medium settings, although you might want to upgrade anyway, so that you can run it on high.

Have you thought about overclocking your 920 btw? That chip could handle a lot of abuse in that front back in the day, and reach some very good clocks even with air!

I've played the alpha on a machine that has a similar CPU (Xeon X3450) that is like the i7 920 except for less memory bandwidth. You'll find there is no difference between medium and high frame rates. I have the same card as you in my main machine but in the Xeon machine, a GTX 580. With that card, again there is no difference in performance between high and medium. With a fully loaded alpha 2 park (all of the rides and five coasters) I was able to get about 11 fps. That's with the processor running at 2.66GHz. You might find that you can get fairly playable performance on your i7 920 if you overclock the CPU a fair bit as I'm not able to overclock the Xeon (intel motherboard). Ultimately I would recommend upgrading the CPU and board to something more modern, you'll find the old i7 920 although still a good chip does fall behind nowadays. If you overclock the 920 though, it might be worth at least just trying it on the processor! You've got nothing to lose if you're going to buy the game anyway, if it's not up to scratch, then you can decide to upgrade it.

I think I've tried to relay that his cpu isn't as powerful today as it was years ago on the other forum :c

I have the same CPU. It's old, but with overclock it can certainly do the job for now. Keep in mind that all comparisons on the internet are almost always based on the base clock.

I assume you know how to overclock if you have that CPU. If not start doing some research (!!) and start easy with changing the multiplier up to 3.4 GHz and leave the rest alone. Of course you can't overclock when you have the stock fan cooler installed (not enough). If your new to overclocking also always keep an eye on temperature with software like Open Hardware Monitor, HWmonitor, Speedfan etc.. Also CPU-Z is useful. On air you should be able to go to 3.7 or 3.8 GHz.

For now i ran Planet Coaster with the same videocard on a system with a 6600k and my overclocked i7 920 and there was only an average of 3 fps difference when playing in full hd. If you have a 2k or 4k monitor the fps dropped with an average of 20 fps. This was probably also caused, because the videocard didn't have enough memory. With your specs i would wait just a bit longer and see what the next CPU's will bring in performance improvement. Also because you have a good amount of memory and such and you need to buy new memory, motherboard
