Devs, can we get a definitive answer on ... future passionate development

Devs, can we get a definitive answer on if you will develop the game as passionate as you did before? [big grin]

We really would appeciate if we could get further information about future development of PlanCo [big grin][yesnod]but also understand that this takes time and would get you into some trouble if you couldn't keep mup to made promises.[yesnod]
I really enjoyed reading the thread about sound improvements [up]and I guess I can say in the name of the whole community that a kind of Devblog (written or as livestream) would be really awesome.[yesnod][yesnod][yesnod]

So, could I please get a definitve answer on if you will develop the game as passionate as you did before?[big grin]

Thank you for your answer in advance,

Klötenkieker[big grin]

This thread is in NO WAY to be meant as to post those "definitive anwer" questions or to collect these.

Thanks for your nice request, Klötenkieker.

I am in no way speaking for Frontier, as I am only a volunteer moderator / ambassador, but I can tell you what I have experienced at Frontier Expo on Saturday October 7, 2017.
Before and during the expo I had the pleasure to talk to some of the developers who have been and/or are still working on Planet Coaster. All of the developers were full of passion and enthusiasm when talking about their game(s). Hearing them speak about the game made me even more enthusiastic as well, because you could hear that they have put their hearts into the games that they make. Of course, we already knew that from previous talks with the developers, such as the wonderful Dev Diaries videos.

The developers were not able to talk about specific plans for the future of Planet Coaster, for reasons we already know and which have been discussed before. That being said, they have and are reading all of our suggestions and feedback, both shared on these forums as well as in other places, and they have a 'list' of suggestions, ideas and feedback that they would like to add, incorporate and/or change to the game.

However, please know that there is no guarantee that we will ever get everything from that 'list'. There are limitations of what the developers can achieve when it comes to developing the game. During development, the team has to decide on a balance between what people want in the game and what would work in the game, both on a gameplay level and on a technical / performance level.

TL;DR: I don't have an answer, but based on personal talks with the developers during Frontier Expo, I know that the developers are as passionate and enthusiastic as they have ever been. They are passionately continuing their work on Planet Coaster and they have plans for the future.

we had dev diaryies during Alpha, they were even pretty interesting and fun to watch as they showed behind the scenes a little bit. The weekly livestreams are nice, but I wish we could have gotten a few more dev diaries since alpha ended [up]

I would love more dev dairies! They were super interesting.

I would love to have more Dev Diaries as well! They were wonderful to watch, and made me (and a lot of others) very excited, and somehow also a bit proud [praise]

I know that John Laws likes the Dev Diaries, too ;)

I think what it is is that they don’t know the far future. They have no idea what content will be added next year because they didn’t make it yet or even make any decisions about what will be in future updates. They probably only know what is going to be in the next update, and after that they will start working on the next, making decisions what rides and stuff to do next, but they can’t tell us in case something changes and they can’t include something. I saw a vid a while back where the guards taser bad guys, do they really do that? I do wish though that they would at least give us a heads up that a DLC or update is coming in advance rather than leave us hanging for three months. At least we will know that they are still working on more content for the game and not sleeping. They don’t have to tell us what they are working on until closer to release, just let us know that they are still working on stuff. Also even though they are a UK company I like how they made most of the rides and stuff Americanized, like the steam trains. I prefer US style steam trains to British ones. And in the US carousels go counter clockwise, past RCT games, Parkitect and TPS have the carousels going clockwise. PC’s carousel goes counter clockwise like US ones.

I think all the negativity of the Spooky DLC just came about because nobody knew what was in it. People just saw the Price Tag and were immediately put off by it. I think it would have been better to communicate what they would get for that Price. Now nobody complains anymore because the general consensus is that it is great value for the money.

On the other hand i can see why they wanted to wait until the Livestream to show off some content. They could have done both: Like show a complete list of the contents and then show them on the Stream. Because this way people see it and crasp the full potential of the DLC

Same thing with the Update really. They didn't have enough time to show it in Detail, because i am of the firm belief that all the additions are really a great and welcome change to the Game, and more than meets the Eye.

Having said that, it seems extremely silly to me to complain about something they haven't even seen yet. Like all that talk about disappointment. I all depends on what you expect. The Ride you badly wanted is not in the Update? Yes, Bummer i agree, but this doesn't mean it wont get added ever. Just a little Patience which i know is rare with the younger people among us. I personally think from what i have seen this Update is worthy of being an Anniversary Update. And don't forget, pretty much EVERYTHING in that Update are Requests from the Users. If you come with the tired "it should have been there from the beginning Argument": You have to understand that developing a feature (and testing by the way) takes a lot of time. In addition, things get moved around the To-do list all the time due to requests from us or other factors. And i am pretty sure they have way more up their sleaves for the future :)

I don´t think so. Complaints are not only about Spooky pack, but DLC stragegy in general. Although it´s needed to say most of us is willing to support devs for their work, however:1) DLCs in this form will shatter the community on Workshop2) In particular, Spooky Pack was bad choice. It´s theme fits dakrrides perfectly, yet game doesn´t support that3) Base game needs to be fixed and polished more before we get new content (either free/paid)I also feel like the quality of free updates is going down. The coaster they added with the Spooky pack was there just to keep our mouths shut or something, but that one is simply not good at all and I wish they didn´t add it....

Spooky Pack was a bad choice? I understand that you bring certain things as if it were facts, but most of them are your opinions.

I've heard that the Spooky Pack is a success. While it can be considered as a bad choice for some players, it doesn't have to mean that it is a bad choice for everyone.

Nonetheless, thanks for posting your opinions and feedback.

You are welcome. I never said I´m stating facts, it´s my opinion, but sadly, some of my feedback is pure fact. Like the bad choise of the DLC theme. It was even advertised as heavily focused on dark rides... I even know some people who thought they actually made it work and fixed it and then they were surprised they have to set time of the day to night... And this is fact. The question is whatever some fans, who just don´t like people say something "bad" about the game accept it or not.

You know, RCTW IS bad game, it´s fact, yet I was accused it is only my opinion... Again that depends whatever you want to accept the truth or not. And that the game needs more fixes and optimization is also nothing, but fact.

I just wish the licensed DLCs offered a little more, like a doc brown or munsters entertainers, and color options for staff/entertainer outfits!

as for dark rides, I think it would help a lot of it was easier to make large square terrain chunks like we could in rct, by using an optional grid with a snap-to-angle function that lines up nicely with paths. Not only with that help make terrain sculpting less tedious, but it would allow people to make large "dark rooms" made of terrain without having to spend hours getting it to look nice. If we had the ability to raise terrain into square/cube at 90 degree angles and perfectly flat walls (without the need of flattening the surface) it would allow people to easily build walls around the terrain to cover it up [yesnod]

To me, this sounds like something impossible to implement. More realistic could be maybe a tool, which will mark area and set it dark (without building anything solid, it would be invisible blocklight texture for instance)

I watched Bo and Sam discussing (disagreeing about) the possibility of free updates to paid dlc... I think that is a brilliant idea. To add more and more to both base and dlc, with updates, increases the perceived value of buying dlc. Perhaps there are technical complications, but I haven't purchased any dlc yet.

I'm not price-sensitive at all, I mean it cost me hundreds of pounds to attend FX17, and dlc is a only a few dollars, so not sure why I'm stalling... I think, when I stare at the BUY button, what I'm mostly feeling is "I'm frustrated with base game features, and paying for more content will increase my frustrations, and fix nothing... So I'll wait for base functions to improve and buy dlc later..." and I don't buy. Weird. I bought VIP just to get a sense of contribution to the long-awaited awesome, strange that buying dlc doesn't strike me the same way - dlc is certainly more useful than VIP!!!

Yes and you and me are not the only one.

I bought the licenced DLCs to support PC, as you said they should of added more.

One day (hopefully) they will sort out snap pieces and block light in terrain so we can have more a QOL for PC.

Have to say that I think the Spooky pack is great. I've really enjoyed building all manner of things with it (including an updated "The Forgotten Asylum" which I originally created in RCT3. My PC version is far better (and its in the workshop for downloading too if you are interested) (A video of my original Forgotten Asylum in RCT3 can be found on YouTube)

The attention to detail (the crows and skeletons for example), really add value to the game, plus it has some solid building materials.

The amount of animation in the individual items is good too even though I would love a ghost that flies around (like the flying book) would be great.

Spooky pack = [up][up][up]

Agreed. If you are interested in the building aspect of the game the Spooky Pack is a great. If only more objects were colorable, although I believe this will be patched in the future.

Thank you Joël for responding and for your kind words. You are doing a very good job and should be made moderator of the year by Frontier[yesnod] (no kiddin')[yesnod]. You help the community, are present everywhere (streams, forums, events etc.) and keep us informed all the time. You also think further and gives us lists of the Wonderland workshop items shown in the streams. Thank you for that and your work very much indeed!!![big grin]

But nevertheless I have also to say that I'm quite shocked, that nobody of the Dev-team or Community managers answered to this thread. I mean, this thread was ONLY meant to bring positivity back to these forums in a time where there was sooo much negativity. I know that the Devs and everybody else have much to do - BUT they said on several livestreams including last Wednesday that they indeed look into the forum nearly every day. Even Mr Braben said that at the Frontier Expo, maybe they are all talking about the bug forums but, well, I waited more than a week for this answer. In a time where there is so much negativity storming in on the Devs I thought that help like this might be appreciated (even a famous gaming magazine reported on forum negativity worldwide lately and that some devs fear their own community). But instead of using this possibility to at least state that they are really passionate (which we know) in developing the game with the same passion like before, we hear nothing. I mean, come on. I didn't even ask them of giving further information about future development. This was, at least to me, a kind of 'slap into the face'. Bo has mentioned in Wednesday's stream that she also loves Devblogs but they are time intensive, which I said in my OP that I know this and it's totally okay if a Devblog is not possible. Now, after Bo mentioning this in the stream, I am okay with it.

What bothers me is, that whenever community tries to give them a hand (which they might not need or want and might is considered inappropiate by other community members which I understand) it seems to me now, that community is being ignored in that. What a bummer! I know that the Devs read the bug sections and don't have much time. But an answer to this thread or the initial question shouldn't have been that hard.

Giving information about updates and then not giving any further information for quite some time isn't a wise marketing strategy in my opinion. Spooky was announced but no information given - a ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎storm was the result which ended as the spooky pack came out and (nearly) everybody was satisfied - ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎storm ended.

A big revolution was suspected for the anniversary update, people even expected more because information was linked to an expo. A lot of people weren't satisfied, even more (I guess) were satisfied. Nevertheless a ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎storm happened.

To this day we didn't get further information - fair enough. But what does the marketing department think?[uhh] Honestly, I am really asking that myself right now. Trying to establish a hypetrain is a good idea. But for that we need information and not teasers that tell us nothing. I hoped they learned from the spooky announcement disaster but now they are doing it yet again. I love what has been published. Not all is perfect but I still think it will be developed further in future (maybe I am only utterly stupid, but I really think that the game will improve further). Now we got teased yet again but the hypetrain got stuck. I know that a ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎storm will stop after we got more information or the anniversary update got published. But why are they doing that to themselves?[uhh][cry][rolleyes] Now I and others tried to give them a hand (which maybe I shouldn't have done) to at least tell us in this thread that they are really passionate and that there are still more things to come (even when it is only AFTER the anniversary update) and we hear nothing.

As I understood from what Bo said during the Wednesday livestream is, that we get more bushes, trees etc. (and by the way, community doesn't love to bury trees in the ground to get bushes but we have to because of lack of foliage so far.[shocked][big grin]). Sorry about my rant here, but I cannot understand that behaviour in times where the Devs and Community managers even address that negativity in their streams and ask us to be friendly to each other but then ignore those given chances. [where is it]

I am totally okay if they don't answer because of ... reasons I might not understand. Fair enough. But I couldn't help myself to withstand to write down that I am really shocked and to be honest disappointed by this. Maybe you consider me being totally stupid or maybe some of you understand what I am trying to say. I don't know.
