confused

Hi all,

Well I'm a new commander here, been playing X3 series and found this game and have been trying to figure it out. I watched a video in which the poster went to Enrin (spelling?) and located a Federal Distress beacon, he then went there and started killing the Federal fighters and getting bounties.

I quickly loaded up the game and tried the same thing and did not get the same result. I killed multiple Federal fighters without receiving any credits. Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

I tried trading and it just wasn't fun spending an hour and only making a few hundred credits with such a small cargo hold on the beginning ship. Would really like to hear from people on how to get started. Problem with most trading video's I find on youtube everyone is already in the cargo ship buying thousands of items. Anyways I'm really enjoying the atmosphere of the game and looking forward to its release.

Cheers

You need to pick a faction when you enter the area, you only get bounties if you have joined a faction. i suspect if you look closer at that video you will see the player do this as he enters the ares. Its an option under functions on the right hand panel.

The fastest way to make credits at the beginning is neither through fighting nor trading. It's through salvaging. Go to the system next to Eranin (LH-XXX-xx, forgot the exact numbers but it's one jump from Eranin). Fly at minimum supercruise speed a few thousand kilometers around the Freeport station and look for unidentified signals. Some will have pirates, some will be traps. In that case, charge up and get out of Dodge immediately. Occasionally, though, you'll come across Containers of gold, which are worth almost 5k each. In a SideWinder, you can pick up 4 of those, and one full load alone is almost enough to buy a Hauler (16 cargo space) and more than enough to buy the entry-level fighter, the Eagle. With a Hauler, you can pick up 10 canisters of gold at a time, which is worth about 50k. With a bit of luck, you'll be able to buy a Viper fighter or a Cobra Mk.III in a couple of hours.

This is kinda game-breaking, in my opinion. This method makes it waaaay too easy to upgrade ships once you know about it. It will probably be nerfed soon but, for now, it Works great.

change "game" with appropriate term "beta 1" and you might reconsider "game breaking" aspect of it :)

so how to fight at conflict zones:
1) fly to eranin 2 or dahan 3
2) select any conflict zoneas target (there are 2 at eah location, low and high intensity) and exit super-cruise as usually
3) choose a faction
4) kill enemies and DO NOT DIE
5) head to station in same jurisdiction that your chosen faction was, so if you choose Eranin and kill federals fly to eranin jurisdiction station and dock there
6) go to Contacts->local law office or smth and cash your vouchers.

enjoy ;)

semantics, semantics...:) Yes,I know it's a beta version. But it's still a "game". In any case, I do hope that the current salvaging bonanza is deliberate and will be nerfed. It's just too easy this way. Even if you lose everthing and get booted back to a Free Sidewinder through a combination of poor planning or bad luck, you can be back in a Cobra within a couple of hours. It kinda detracts from the risks, at least until you're flying an Anaconda or a Type 9.

But beware of traps! I've been playing* since the weekend, but I only tried this gold method once, after watching Scott Manley's video. I flew around the Freeport area, located several USSs, of which the first three turned out to be pirates, so I boosted out and kept looking. The last one, I found gold. Scooped one up, then got attacked and destroyed by a load more pirates!

I couldn't be bothered after that, as I'm useless at combat at the moment! So I just went back to trading. Took a bit longer, but as soon as I could afford the Hauler, I started building up the credits quite quickly. I'm in no particular hurry, especially as all this hard work will be wiped someday soon... ;)

(* sorry, beta testing...)

Thanks all for the responses. I had not selected a faction was the problem. I went back to the video and watched it again and he did not mention having to choose the faction you want to fight for.

I chose a faction and jumped into combat and having a blast!
