Another DLC thread

We'll still continue to release updates and bug fixes. Unsure why people are thinking future updates won't be free.

Yes, we have DLC and other content on the way that may/will cost a small premium to have in your game. However, i wouldn't say our updates are moving to some sort of subscription "subscribe to play" model... that's simply incorrect.[sad]

This quote from Brett came from another thread, and I started a new thread because this is a different topic.

The reason people are concerned is that the "small/microtransaction" DLCs are just not exciting. Sure some people enjoy the small construction sets, but even some of the more popular youtube channels (like Channel5 and TeamSchematics) complained about the way frontier sold their first DLC pack. I think a lot of people are hoping for a bigger DLC soon, so its surprising you only said that "small premiums" are planned, and I think that's why people are comparing it to a subscription. The problem is that, if somebody uploads a blueprint using DLC, it will be limited to how many people will actually be able to download that blueprint. Obviously, this been discussed throughout the entire gaming community for years, just surprised you did not say anything about larger DLCs.

If I compare the $9 DLCs to the $45 price of the full game, I think to myself "would I buy 4-5 sets of $9 DLC?" No, not at the size that these first ones are. That's why some people are a bit worried. Might have been different if all 3 construction packs were bundled together for like $8 or even $6. And I'm not trying to sound like a cheapskate, I have a VIP single ticket which was pretty expensive and the VIP staff/group pass was way too high.

Or maybe we'll get a full expansion soon? [yesnod]

Yeah that's what worries me too!DlC packs should have a theme and include atleast one theme, one ride and one coaster to be big enough, A viking pack for example with a new coaster that looks like a boat and maybe a boat darkride and walls and pieces that look viking.[wink]

I wouldn't mind if it where complete themed dlc s like you described but i would like it if there where more options of packs at 1 time instead of every few weeks/months 1

Brett C's post does not mention 'full expansions', so there's currently no yes or no on the subject of expansion packs, which means that it is still a possibility.

They can't win. Everything they do will be critizised: If the DLC is big, then people who don't want everything want the "option" to choose what they want so they can pay less. If the DLC is small, people complain it is too small.

Well, I didn't mentioned size, and I don't critisize DLC's, like I said in the other thread, It depends on the content, but I won't complain. I just won't buy it.

It's something to keep in mind and feedback is always really appreciated as you well know. There's nothing I can give as far as details go right now, but with regards to the previous DLC packs, these were fairly special in nature because of the massive Hollywood IPs they were attached to. Much like the Cedar Point coaster, the Steel Vengeance, that was recently added to the game - this was done as a singular connection to the Cedar Point announcement and not technically one of our trademark 'big updates' like the Winter/Spring updates for example.

When there's something more definitive to share, we'll be sure to do so with regards to DLCs, future updates, and everything else regarding Planet Coaster :)

i think the best way for small dlcs would have been themed rides & coaster skin packs. this way there would be no problem if u download a blueprint from somebody who has those skins and u dont because u would just see the normal ride / coaster model

also i would love tooo see western versions of some rides like teacups or ferris wheel and so on ( other themes too of course)

Still don't get ehy they are complaining.

Do they want something like Wild or Soaked for Rct 3 back then? With soo many new rides, coasters, systems, water cannons, scenery and more?

well there are issues with the DLC that do not have anything to do with the IPs. There are 2 transparent windows in the DLC sets, many people have been asking for transparent windows. Theres many items which are not recolorable, does that mean we will be getting more scenery DLC with various missing color options? And most importantly, is the fact that when using the new go-kart cars, players have to rebuild their entire go-kart track, instead of being able to switch cars like in previous RCT games. These are reasons why people were disappointed with the DLC, that has NOTHING to do with the licensed IPs.

I don't understand, the Cedar Point coaster was free. But if we look at previous RCT games, licensed IPs are not really all that special. I see it as a bumper sticker, like your slapping ad space all over the game, and that would seem like Frontier should be gaining money rather than paying for those IPs. Customers should not be charged for advertising

In RCT2 the six flags scenarios were neat to look at, but not fun to play. In RCT3, the hersheys shops and reskinned rides felt very pointless. The hersheys coaster was interesting and different, but that was one ride out of many. Just my opinions, but I think others would agree. I think its a lot more fun seeing people come up with their own content (like we already had a BTTF park before the BTTF content) and we should have had a spooky pack rather than a munsters pack

Well, we found out about Planet Coaster months before it released. I wish you guys would let us know what to expect in the future. Right now peoples guesses are all over the place; water parks, safaris, hotels, etc. but its a lot of fun when we have something to be excited about.

I have to say this again. The transparent windows, the non-recolorable items, the inability to change cars, and the inability to share DLC blueprints with non-DLC owners, those are the reasons why the first DLC was not exciting. A creative game like this can't be so restrictive. If you want to give us a licensed IP set, then charge us for the licensed IPs with the signs, and then give us the non-licensed content (like the transparent window) as part of the base game, instead of doing the mix-and-match style like we currently have. If we end up with 100 sets of small construction packs, it will turn people away from DLC. Especially if we ever get UGC or CSO

Thanks for the response :)[up]

Yes! I mean, getting awesome surprises is fun, but only for a very short amount of time. When we know in advance about stuff we can discuss it, maybe already give feedback and make plans on how to use it! I miss that..

That's the problem here. With beta, we only had like 2 weeks and then when security was finally released it was buggy (and theres still obviously lots of bugs with the UI and feedback system). When we were in Alpha it felt like we were part of the development process, especially regarding the behind the scenes interviews or "Dev Diaries" but we've been in the dark ever since the game had its official launch. Sometimes early feedback can help improve the end result, but we need time to inspect things.

With the DLC sets, I read many comments where people said "they purchased the DLC without looking, and then realized that they made a mistake"
