Animatronics - Alpha 2

There's a fair amount of life-like animatronics out there these days. The short clip that we shown off felt natural, but not 'too-alive' to me. Which is where it should be, no?

As long as there is a 'break down' animation as well, then its all good. I want to see smoke coming out of these things! [haha]

(And then a mechanic coming along and fixing it)

I like it but i'm dissapointed because i though those were performer you could get in specific place of your park.

Sorry what are you trying to say? You have the ability to place them anywhere you would like in the park but you want them in a specific area? Or on a specific ride?

Adam

I think he means he thought it was an entertainer.

I think :p

Ah right yeah, I am sure he is making a valid point for his thoughts and now that I have re-read it from that point of view it kinda makes sense.

Problem was it was clearly a post about an animatronics and even the original FB post suggested that so didn't read in that context. [big grin]

Cheers,

Adam

I normally don't bring back old threads, but they are using some pretty good animatronics in the new Frozen ride at Disney.

Technology wise, that was an impressive looking ride, the arms / movement etc, all very smooth. Impressed!

While I agree that realistic animatronics are out there and are lots of fun to watch, in PC, you don't want the animatronics looking more real than the guests.

Personally, I would like to see this game maintain the current theme park technology, not step backwards.

But the guard shon in the video at the very beginning of this topic is years ahead of Frozen animatronics (which are what we do best in the industry currently).

Notice how smooth Frozen animatronics are. Notice how they never hold and release something. Notice how they always have their feet anchored in the ground - except for Olaf which has extra-mechanical parts (but not for only moving a feet an inch!).

PC animatronics just look like normal guests. Wherever people though Frozen animatronic were projections or "robots", they never thought they were actors.
