Oh those wonderful sound effects...

I'm sure this has been discussed hundreds of times but I would like to say a special thanks to FD sound designers for this amazing game- the sound is just wonderful. I bought a viper, put 4 pulse lasers on and am killing federation fighters by the bucketload for 350 a pop, easy money :D

But while I was swatting them out of the sky I had a few minutes with no targets (I'd wandered around 30km away from the distress beacon) and in the quiet of space I slowed my engines right down to appreciate the subtle background effects but then I had a little play with the viper, slowly yawing/ rolling and listened to the noises it made- wow! It kind of growls, a deep, throaty growling that sounds like a bengal tiger or something on the prowl, subtle but blimmin fabulous and if you haven't tried it it's one of the simple little pleasures ED has to offer :D:D

The viper and all it's associated sounds are just gorgeous through some nice bass(y) headphones but that growl just adds the cherry to the cake :D

Yup! The sound design is top notch. Engine sounds, computer voice prompts, weapons, hyperspace jumps... everything! I especially love the low frequency rumble in supercruise when you get close to gravity wells. It leaves no doubt that the small looking orbs coming at you at high speed are actually massive!

Each ship has its own proper voice, it's jaw dropping. I often find myself wandering around getting close to ships to listen to them...

You also have to supercruise towards a star and brush past it with volume to the max: it's almost as if you can feel the heat it generates!

I love the way the Viper pops on the overrun just like a sportscar/bike. I deliberately throttle up and down just to hear it. Been known to do the same whilst riding my motorbikes on occasion ;)

The sound the hauler makes is beautifull but rather creepy. It makes me look over my shoulder to check there isn't some translucent thing floating in the middle of the room.

Heartily agree! I love how the vipers engines POP as its slowing down hard. Almost sounds like the engines are backfiring!!
And flying by an Eagle making a combat turn sounds amazing!

Yes! Hats-off and salute to the sound guys! Best sound effects for in-game ships I have heard. Combined with the flight dynamics, really gives the ships in this game weight you can feel, sitting at home in a comfy chair!

-=S=-

It really makes you feel like you're at the controls of a powerful piece of hardware. Really great work. I loved I War 2 for the same reason, and this goes one better.

Ditched my knackered old car for a newer shiny one this week. First thing I thought when taking it for a test drive was 'this is just like ditching the Sidewinder and getting an Eagle' :D

I've not had the pleasure of owning a Viper yet, but what I have experienced so far is truly sublime. The audio is familiar but not cliche. The UI sounds are instantly understandable and intuitive. If EDangerous when released doesn't win awards for the audio, I'll eat my hat.

yup the sound quality get's me every time I play, really tempted to upgrade my headphones as my current ones are adequate but I'd love to hear it through something quality

Yeah! I suppose that's the Star Wars approach of sound design. Many of the Star Wars engine sounds were based on big old radial engines.

Yup - big props to the audio peeps on this one.

When I know the neighbours are out, sometimes I crossover the audio to an old bass amp and turn things right up.

You can literally feel the air move and thump you when you hit that boost button, just hovering outside the station entrance makes the monitors shake, and hyperspace is almost subterranean.

Great fun! Not much opportunity to do so though :(

Agreed, the sound is just amazing, really immersive.

Not sure about anyone else but I feel the sense of vulnerability that is ever present in ED is mainly down to the sound.

After a boost the sound the engine makes as it slowly bleeds speed is incredible.

One tiny thing and it's very personal is I'm not a fan of laser 'pew pew' sounds, I prefer something that feels more bassy and threatening but I'm sure someone very clever will create sound packs to replace some of the stock sounds.

Other than that, really top notch sound design.
