Works very well and is a must when using an Oculus Rift.

EDIT. PS. I didn't vote because the poll is a bit silly ;)

Voice recognition works perfectly for me even though I'm french and use it in english. Sometimes it's really useful, sometimes I use it just for fun. I have a button for frameshift, but I rarely use it, I find it much nicer to use voice commands for it.

It's pretty cool to say "weapons free", see your cannons popping out and hearing the voice feedback telling you "weapons ready to fire".

So yes, you might look silly if you use it in front of other people, but there's nothing silly about the software itself and the possibilities it provides.

Not at all - I use a rift, have VA and don't use it at all (see my previous post).

To each their own and I can confirm that it works, but it's far from being 'a must' when using a rift - just saying...
Depends on your controller. I use a gamepad, it would be very awkward to operate all the game controls without VA

VA is cool .. and this ED Cmdr generated (open-source) version.

Way back when, Elite 1984, was THE future in action no? Elite Dangerous is breaking ground too but, if you like, is not the only high def MMO out there anymore (though most other we might argue follow in some footsteps). So in a new nod to "the future" then .. not only can Captain Picard talk to his ship computer .. so can I !!!

I'm not geared up to play ED .. that's a work in progress (looking for support, see my sig ) .. but even on my 2002, pre-pentium Shuttle X here, I have VA running in the background. Asking my old PC to sleep, choose an mp3 playlist, open apps (because it takes a while!!) even control some room lights VERBALLY .. I've got to tell you, I think it's freaking awesome.

I don't think it's silly, but I also wouldn't trust it 100%. Plus I'm usually on Teamspeak or other voice coms so it's not plausible.

Besides, I swear a lot too so unless I incorporate "retract you f'n cargo scoop!!" It wouldn't work so well :D

I've voted 'silly', because that's how I feel when I use it. Even when my wife is in bed down the hall I feel I just want to whisper into the mic to not wake her, and then because I whisper the software doesn't pick up what I say half the time, so it becomes an annoyance. I'm sure if I was on my own I'd loosen up about talking to the computer.

Instead I'm much happier with a custom Roccat grid which takes care of all the commands I can't fit on the joystick. Pushing buttons is just as immersive as speaking commands, and I don't have to worry about annoying anyone by saying bizarre things in the dead of night.

Of course, I'm planning sometime to get an Oculus (the height of sillyness), and will probably go back to using VA as I'll be blind to the iPad buttons. If you're going to be silly, you might as well go all the way :p

I still think it's fun... and i have to live with it :)

My wife used to tease me on occasion when I would play WoW... 'MISDIRECT!', 'FREEZE' (for aoe freezing traps... VA is a lifesaver for aoe targeting... move the mouse to where you want to, say what you need). Of course, that all stopped when she started using it.

I never use VA for critical stuff... I just use it where appropriate. It fills a certain need.

Silly? Yes. Necessary? Probably not... but it's certainly handy and a little bit satisfying when it does its job :)

My only problem with it is it sometimes picks up my breathing and tries giving the command 'if' several times, I've moved my headset mic away from my mouth and reduced its volume and it still happens, it's made it very temperamental, either it works like a charm or it keeps listening to several commands as one, chained together by 'if' for example;

'Power engines if power engines power engines if power engines power engines if if power engines if' lol

When it does work I LOVE it, it's so helpful for freeing up buttons as well as giving a real sense of immersion in to your ship, any trekkie or major sci fi fan will agree we've all wanted to be able to say 'computer, warp speed, engage' and not feel like we're just talking to ourselves or our imaginations! lol

I, especially certainly have ROOM to feel silly because I've programmed my voice attack to have real personality, multiple responses to each command many of which give me sass, some of which insult or compliment me, and I'm not one for roleplay!

All in all anyone I've shown has been too impressed to laugh, I could never feel silly, only aweome!

I don't think Voice Attack is silly but it's not my cup of tea. I'm used to playing mostly WW2 sim games so it wouldn't really make sense although I guess you could justify it by saying that I would be issuing commands to the crew of my tank or plane rather than the tank or plane itself.

It definitely makes more sense in a space sim but it's just not viable in my house, lots of background noise; the mrs, birds, tv etc.
