Getting rid of Bounty. How does it work?

Hello,

despite that I have a huge problem with SP and MP being "one" I'm still following ED and am hoping to enjoy it upon release (who knows, maybe they will eventually seperate SP and MP). Never know...

Anyway...
During a discussion about switching between SP and MP in one of the threads, somebody pointed out that players with an active bounty can not switch to SP.
Now this is all good and fine but how is the Bounty applied to a player? Can I just switch to a cheap Sidewinder, make sure I don't have any cargo loaded and let NPC police or whoever, blow me up to get rid of my bounty?

Cheers,

as bounties are faction specific the easiest way of getting rid of a bounty is to go to an independent system where you are not wanted and pay it off through the pilots federation link under contacts in the station menu.

there is a little bit different system in developer minds :)

The idea is that bounties are offered to get folk to blow up your ship. Once this has occurred, the bounty is turned into a voucher and the perpetrator gets the bounty value gets added to the jurisdiction's fine (to stop death exploits).
What's missing is a final piece of the puzzle: deferred crimes. So here the idea is that once your ship has been boiled, the starport you get transported to gets the above rules, whilst all other bounties and fines for other jurisdictions become deferred.
Deferred crimes are essentially invisible to everyone except you. They represent the other authorities assuming you are dead. The catch is, if you are detected commiting additional crimes in any of these jurisdictions, the deferred crimes for it will reactivate (the authorities realise you are still alive).
Once this system is up and running it should hopefully make a little more sense, as well as give us a kind of criminal history for commanders (Once you die, all deferred crimes are technically "in your past", but should you get dragged back into a life of crime they can come back to haunt you).

Yes I get that but what if your bounty is very high (can it even get very high?) why not just switch to a cheap Sidewinder and let them blow you up instead of paying the bounty?

IIRC you still have to pay the bounty off even if your ship is destroyed.
