Was the promise of guest editor a lie?

In this post back in August of 2016: Joel informed us that Everyone would be able to use a guest designer for LOCAL guests.

As Joel himself said: (source can be found here: https://forums.planetcoaster.com/sh...Day-Four-Discussion-Thread?p=85706&viewfull=1)

I've learned more information about the VIP passes that will only be for sale until August 25th. There is some frustration as to what you can do with VIP tickets, and what you can do without them.

Basically, it comes down to this:
Everyone can create an avatar and place it on the globe in the main menu. This will be your icon that other players will see.
Once you've selected your in-game account through the avatar, everyone can create guests in-game using a kind of guest designer, and use it to create LOCAL single guests AND LOCAL guests groups. You will NOT be able to create staff.
This is for all players no matter which edition of the game they have.

Now for the VIP tickets:
VIP tickets give you the same ability to create in-game single guests or guest groups, depending on which VIP ticket type you have bought. The difference is that guests created with VIP tickets not only appear LOCAL, but also ONLINE in parks of other people all over the globe. This works the same for the VIP Staff passes; they are for creating a single staff member that will appear in your LOCAL parks and parks of other players all over the globe!

Zac and Richard Newbold can confirm this.

So as we know, VIP tickets are no longer on sale. Yet I still don't know whether they have added a guest designer or not. So is it coming soon? Or have we been lied to?

Some of my very original first posts on this forum were about the pre-order content, specifically the VIPs. I did not like the way they advertised them, many people posted asking if the VIP guest editor was the only way to get "any" sort of guest editor at all, and many people have posted about how disappointed they were once they received their VIPs, especially the extremely overpriced staff pass.

Too bad its a minor issue that occurred long ago, nobody cares at this point. Hopefully we will see improvements in the future though [up]

Of course, every player gets to edit their "Avatar" which is a single guest that shows up in your parks. Thats it though, nothing special like in RCT3

I would like to see the in Planet Coaster, I heavily used it in RCT3. It's a really neat aspect of the game, but they also need to implement better guest management. A list of all guests is currently absent from the game. It's near-impossible to find your own avatar in your parks, at least an option to mark guests as favorites so they show up in the guest panel. (Created groups automatically are marked as favorites?)

I see this as a case of miscommunication.

I think Joël got that information fresh from the press (on Gamescon 2016), and in his enthousiasm probably misquoted some lines.
Also I don't see messages from Joël as official info from Frontier when looking at a lot of his activity here, as he is a "voluntary moderator", so he's not involved in game developing decisions.

Also this quote is the one and only time a group guest editor was mentioned, I missed it entirely so I didn't even know about this one, but as a Early Bird player I can remember a guest editor (besides your own avatar or VIP ticket) was not planned to be part of the release.

However, it's a shame the information wasn't corrected if it was incorrect.
A guest editor would be nice though.

I think they changed it into the avatar editor we have now.

did you read my post ?

not true

Back before the official release, back during alpha, Frontier was selling pre-order bonus content. They had 3 types of guest editors for sale, the VIP single, the VIP group, and the VIP staff. They were all quite expensive. The group VIP editor is the only way to gain access to the "group" editor. There was quite a few posts about this back in 2016/17 because many people were disappointed by the pricing and the fact that they are no longer available

Personally, I think the way Frontier did the VIPs was lame and could have been handled much better

Thats why I said I missed it entirely. You are probably correct about the VIP's but I was never bothered by it because I didn't get VIP.
Maybe worded it wrong, but this was just all about me.

Other then that I always knew there would only be a editor as it is today.

But the question was if it was a lie or not?

From my point of view it wasn't, but then you would need to know who gives official statements about the game and who does not, and looking at that I can see why the OP thinks he was lied to.

It was not a lie, but... if you were "interested" in the VIP stuff back in 2016, you would have realized how poorly worded the whole thing was... it was not a lie but it was very very much misdirected in the sense that many many people posted asking about the VIPs and if they were required for having a guest editor, which some people thought the VIP pass was required for having any sort guest editor... I could find some old links to prove my point, but the fact remains that the VIPs were a "ripoff" especially the VIP staff pass [down] thats why I have been so vocal about the size of the DLCs

thats why its kind of sad that the VIP stuff was not explained in better detail, and the one and only quote we did get from Joël wasn't even 100% accurate (which is not Joëls fault, but somebody whos higher up)

I miss a lot features from RCT3, including the very advanced and feature rich guest editor of RCT3

I agree with that. Also I think a guest editor is not really a must but a very welcome thing in a game like this.

I would have a park full of goths and punks.

That would be cool but I really want a uniform editor for my employees.

While I would have loved to have this feature, I'm not loosing any sleep over it either. I don't get too excited, just in case a feature doesn't happen.

Yes please - would like to be able to set the colours of uniforms at least.

Some different styles would be cool too (things like Sci Fi Janitors and Engineers or Pirate Vendors) would be great.

We still don't have any way to simply locate guests that have a problem, despite the notifications. At this point, I strongly doubt that we will ever see a more complex feature like the guest editor.

Haha, hmm I would try to create some kind of fairy kei pastel goodness, only to get frustrated by the limited choices of stuff and colors. Black is easier! [haha]

If we are able to make many different groups I would definitely make a goth group. I have a goth(ish) past (back end of 90 to turn of 2000s, black black black black clothes!) and black is still nice on me. (it is easier for me to look good in black than pastels to my chagrin)
