Planet Coaster Ride Reputation Update

Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully you’ve had a good time and played plenty of Planet Coaster during the holidays.

Firstly, I’d just like to give a little clarification following some discussions regarding Ride Reputation. I’ve noticed a few people posting unsure about what exactly it is and how or when it works. The feature is intended as a means of adding greater challenge to management by creating a gradual decline in a ride’s desirability to guests. Much like in real life, a new ride will be a fantastic and exciting thing that people are keen to try out. Over time the ride slowly becomes more known and the novelty wears off a little, resulting in its Ride Prestige dropping. These rides can still be a centre piece of your park with great theming, pricing and placement. However, after a longer period of time these rides become even more attractive again, much like the well-loved classics you visit each year at your favourite parks. Every park building mogul will know that you need to keep your park attractive for guests with ride types and variation. This helps ensure that you need to continue to manage your park to get the best results.

To clarify where Ride Reputation is applied, you will only find Ride Reputation on the newest Scenarios and on the ‘Medium’, ‘Hard’ and ‘Harder’ Challenge mode difficulties. Reputation changes are not applied to Sandbox mode, the ‘Easy’ Challenge mode difficulty, nor to previous existing Scenarios.

We are pleased to hear that so many of you are enjoying this new added feature but for those of you who would prefer the option to play the new scenarios and harder challenge modes without it we will be adding the option to switch it off as well.

As always we are and will be continuing to listen to the community’s thoughts and feedback. There may be future balancing and enhancements to this or other features in the future so please do continue to give us your feedback and suggestions on the forums.

We hope that helps clarify a little about Ride Reputation. We hope that you’ll enjoy the added flexibility this option will give you and we’re looking forward to an awesome 2017 with you all.

The ability to turn on and off entire gameplay elements ....

Only on Frontier games [big grin] ... -nobody- dare to say dev's are not listening to feedback [wink]

Thank you for the clarification Zac!

A few notes:
Ride reputation should react to its placement around other elements in the park. I.e. if you have 9 flat rides on one side of the park, those should all get a negative reputation effect.

Ride refurbishment should be a "Buff" for the reputation and visually change. If you refurbish a ride it should then almost be upgraded or even more advancement management idea would be to implement an upgrade tree on each flat ride. You can pick for example a different restraint type, or different style of lights, or a different "theme" more generic or heavily themed would determine its success based on the types of guests in the park. Each one of those upgrades cost significant money but would impact the stats of the ride including its reliability and reputation.

The other idea would be to almost have a prestige level for the rides and when they achieve certain milestones like, 1 millionth ride or no breakdowns for xx amount of time the ride builds rep and becomes more popular, which would also in turn increase the management aspects of the park because you will need to get people interested in your other rides...

Marketing could be ride or shop specific so that you can offset or help reputation balancing in your park vs everyone go to the one super popular ride, raising awareness via marketing would help divert the guest traffic around the park.

Feel free to implement all of these ideas. I want to help make this game better for everyone.

That's great news! Thank you!

Will the reputation system also be looked at for balancing in the future? (for those that like the system but are requesting changes with it?)

Heya,

The team are still looking at and reviewing the way the feature works so it's very possible that we will see future enhancements or improvements too. :)

Awesome! More options are almost always good.

I hope there is also a toggle so that I CAN use it in sandbox mode. I really like the system.

Hi Zac

Thanks for the update. Is there possibility of some clarity around the balloon shop issues, and that you are aware/looking to fix?

Great news - thanks. :)

The biggest problem (for me) was, that most of my rides (after changing the status to old) made negative profit.
The idea behind it is great, so I'm looking forward to the improvements. :)

I feel I was an outspoken but polite critic of this feature, and I'm glad a toggle is being added for it.

However, I, and I think many others (based on forum posts, complaints posted to sites like metacritic, etc), like the idea of it, we just don't like how it is currently balanced. I personally think that the "new" and "aging" categories don't last long enough, and "old" lasts far too long. I also think that the effect of "old" is either too strong at the moment, or we need some method of gameplay to offset it, either with changes to the refurbish system and/or how nearby scenery affects ride reputation.

I really like the feature, but I just wish that the rides aged slower and/or that a refurb helped slow or reverse the aging process. Its good that we can toggle the feature off, but I'd much rather still have it, but have it tweaked a little to a more realistic level.

So your saying that Coasters are no long a kind of "Fire and forget" for lazy park managers?....
.
Sounds pretty good to me.
Actually, I find it kinda beneficial.. Initially, everyone complains about the Queue length, then once the prestige drops enough the queue times die off too.... So, it does kinda help with the lazy park design in a way. Cool.....

Just want to send out a big thank you to the devs for listening to the community feedback. I am so pleased to hear the feature flag for the ride aging is upcoming, and hope more so that they tweak it to be a little more realistic and forgiving. Thanks for a great game and many hours of enjoyment!

What about those of us who like the mechanic, but don't like that it's crazy unbalanced? I don't want to turn it off, I want it to work.

What about the queue issues people have been talking about for a month?

What about the shop attractiveness issues people have been talking about for a month?

Hi Zac, thank you so much for he update! You guys rock!

I think though that the problem does not reside with the aging system but with the queue problems that have been reported around the forums. Currently Guests complain a lot about small queues and will not get in line, resulting in small queues with some of them being empty, specially flat rides like the carousel. I think that with the aging problem this gets worst resulting in no lines at all. I believe that making Guests more tolerant to bigger queues will help (e.g. New has 80 min wait time, aging 60 min, old 15 min and classic 60min) this way we have a new impact on queues.

Also I think that having long queues add more challenge and will make the player worry about adding capacity to the park or making sure that ride operates more efficiently with more train service etc.

I love the agin system and I think when it is balanced I will be amazing. I can't wait to create new rides that will be super crowed and popular and classic rides that people love so much!
