Real World Theme Parks Do you think you can handle this new Alton Towers' ride?

Alton Towers announced today it is launching a new rollercoaster, Galactica, entirely dedicated to virtual reality.

Set to open in April 2016, Galactica is the world's first rollercoaster entirely customised for the full VR experience. Each rider wears a specialist VR headset. Through this, an onboard artificial intelligence guides them from launch pad into space.

I've seen videos of people wearing VR glasses while sitting on a chair and they are going crazy. Imagine that while being in a rollercoaster making loops etc...
I'm getting sick already haha

It's a great concept but I wonder how the system will work with E-Stops and lift hill deceleration (Common on flyers). Can't wait to give it a ride.

Imagine it on Oblivion <3

This is interesting because I do not get motion sickness when riding rollercoasters and half of the thrill rides (the worst rotating ones might give me if I am feeling anti that day) But I have never puked ever on parks, so there.

But I have easy to get motion sickness in car and buses and..... 3d games (strategy map based games such as rct and sim city et al are fine, though.. it is the adventure/shooter where you follow one player or being the player's eye). I have puked for these or feeling very bad bordering on puke by hair line.

Maybe this is the rollercoaster that will actually make me puke. lol.

Should be noted that this is an entirely optional experience, as it's just a rebranding of Air, so if riders want to just ride the coaster like they used to, they can.

I'm quite glad about this, as I really love Air and whilst I want to give this Galactica thing a go, I still want to be able to just ride the ride.

A rollercoaster using VR ........ Noooo !!!

Why this park is so far from me [sad]

Alton Towers is 40 miles from where I live and Drayton Manor Park is only 10 minutes away. That new VR Coaster is under construction at the moment their was a short article on it in our local newspaper a few months ago.

I saw somewhere that's just a "retheming" of an actual ride ? Is it true ?

Yeah, it's Air but with VR.

Not certain about that Angelis and I am not sure when Nemesis will be back in action after the nasty accident last year. I actually went on that ride two months before, when we took the grandchildren to Alton Towers.

There was an accident with Nemesis? When? The one with The Smiler was pretty bad, but I hadn't heard about Nemesis.

Also, yeah, this new ride is just Air with VR. You can opt out to just ride the coaster like you used to, but the VR headsets add a new element to it.

Granted, VR is still in its early stages... this is a rather impressive feat that they're trying to accomplish.

I am interested in seeing how this turns out in a couple years time (general response to the VR+coaster). [up]

Sorry, my fault, it was the new ride the Smiler and not Nemesis. You have to excuse me, it's my age and I have these senior moments now and again. So I repeat the bad accident was indeed on the Smiler Ride.

This is an expensive cup that's easy to lose or drop. Make sure that doesnt happen and get a grip on it with The Grapplr. It solves all these issues with not only something to hold onto but it also gives you a secure mount for a yeti tumbler handle, yeti cup handle whatever it takes!
