Sometimes in Sandbox building games there can be a tendency to focus on simply staying in the black. Keeping your income high expanding and making things run smoothly. This though can be often quickly refined by the player to understand how to best run these systems.
So recently I was thinking about how in skylines the road infrastructure has bottlenecks of traffic which need resolving, but unlike the real world it doesnt suffer from other incidents such as car accidents, broken down vehicles etc etc. These things have an impact on services both emergency and civilian and are an interesting factor to test the efficiency and cover of your city design.
In Planet Coaster there could be an equivalent feature I would like to see where you have say an Aid station Medical station, or also your information stations. In previously comparable titles information stations would provide visitors to the park with umbrellas maps etc, the information station though could be expanded to have a variety of roles such as a meeting point for visitors, lost children collection, or a place people hang around more than other.
It would make logical sense then for areas such as these to have a higher quantity of visitor and create a potential block in the pathways. This means the player would have to allow and design these spaces to allow a higher capacity for visitors. Minor incidents could potentially be dealt with by security guards, or perhaps even there would be another job role of park helpers. These would be extensions of the information desk people who would patrol the park to help visitors with finding rides, but also dealing with minor medical issues lost children etc etc
Park rating - issues such as these incidents should adjust your park rating or visitor happiness in general, this would effect the amount of people wanting to visit the park based on your ability to deal with these issues in the park.
Minor Incidents (would be dealt with by Information or Aid stations)
- Lost children (they return or are brought back to the info or aid station for collection)
- Minor medical (slips, trips, cuts etc) - could be related to park cleanliness?
- Lost property (people return to the station to locate item)
- Theft (pickpockets ability to operate in your park)
Major Incidents (dealt with by Info or AS)
- Major medical (this wouldnt have to be specific but something major that requires urgent or more serious assistance - so perhaps several aid station staff and an information member)
- Angry visitor (if the park was poorly designed, or queuing times were too long some visitors could have a meltdown. Would require multiple security guards to restrain and eject them from the park)
