"Night Vision" change

I couldn't help but notice today whilst trying to dock at a planetary base that it was very dark - so I turned on night vision - love it everything clears up and I'm happy.

I then realised about 3 systems later that I still had it turned on - and there was no "downside" to night vision. If its in daylight NV just doesnt show up.

My suggestion (which I expect to go down badly) is that if you are in night vision mode and go into daylight then the screen should just green out and you lose all detail. After all the sensors are focussed to enhance light etc.

Just a thought.

I personally think the night view makes dark locations obsolete. Your are right, just turn on night view and never turn it off again. Maybe a thermal view would have been more interesting ...

I agree.
Downsides to features like nightvision are more interesting, because then you will have to make choices.
Having to make choices is what makes a game interesting.
I personally would also have like it better if night vision was a feature you would have to buy.

The downside is it makes everything look just ugly enough that you'll turn it off for sightseeing or screenshots. I'm happy with that as the downside.

Yes but thats not a downside, thats a minor perturberance.

I held short of the whole hog of if you dont turn them off you damage them ;)

I like this. After all, if somebody shines a flashlight into a pair of NV goggles the user basically goes blind as their displays white-out. o7

I don't see why we need to add inconvenience to a piece of technology that was added specifically for our convenience. If convenience isn't your thing then I guess just don't use it. I have found night vision useful in other situations besides complete darkness on a planet, such as exploring areas in shadow on the day side. I realize night vision goggles today would probably blind you if you turned them towards daylight but this is the future and given all the technology we have I think it would be hilariously unrealistic if they couldn't nip a problem like that in the bud. Our canopies can filter out blinding light and radiation but can't adjust to a change in brightness and filter out the excess light that would be caused by the night vision? I never forget to turn night vision off when I'm not using it because as has been stated it adds a green tint to things that I don't care for unless I absolutely need it to see.

the night vision in the game is an artificial augmentation of the radar, its not using real night vision technology.
which is why so many people complain about night vission being able to see stealth ships from several kilometers away because the tech is obviously using the radar.

Night vision should be more susceptible to what the radar sees and not magically more.

Night vision can also be used to locate medium landing pad in outposts as it has x-ray vision capabilities.

I won't leave it on though b/c it's like watching green screen systems if you are old enough to know what I mean ;) I just thought of another use for night vision - anyone got blinded by a Chieftain or Challenger's thrusters during combat when you want to shoot them from behind with fixed weapons? I shall try going night vision and see if this reduces the glare when a Chieftain or Challenger turns to run from me...

Yea, true. But i heard they plan to fix this problem in a future generation, which may be ready to release somewhere between 1980 and 2000.

What I would like to see with nightvision is a N icon which is displayed on top of the "Lights On" icon or on it's own when the lights are off.

With the N displayed, we will know that we have left night vision on.
