Good find,

*makes inevitable statement*

This would be great for E4 though would'nt it. :D

Yeah it would.

Problem being, we all want it to only be available for people who have made Elite without cheating.

Back in those days, if you got to the end and recieved a code there would be a limited amount of people you could tell. These days, you can be sure that shortly after the first person got Elite status, there would be links all over the internet telling people the code they need to send off.

Maybe if the code was unique, and tied in with your serial key, using some clever algorythm. Clever algorythms? Shouldn't be a problem for the people who managed to fit 6 galaxies into 800 bytes, eh?!

Haha if my Fiancée hates the amount of time I spend on some games, she'd certainly hate how long I would spend getting myself to 'Elite' :D

Sadly we may never see any thing like this again, as these promotions are usually don by the publisher and most publisher today cannot even be bothered to put a proper manual in the box.I for one do miss the big boxes of 80/90s which were sometimes full of the most amazing crap.

But it was that crap that made the games so endearing. I loved the background stories that you got with games like Exile and Elite - it just served to give some context to your gameplay. To be fair tho much of that story telling (if not all) is now done through cinematic sequences ingame. But having things like the ships stats and a comprehensive guide makes a massive difference IMO.

It's a shame the industry has gone that way, I remember the Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy game had loads of stuff in it. even a pair pf peril sensitive sunglasses!

And that's a shame, if you ask me (which you didn't :p).
A novella is the perfect addition to a game such as Elite IV (hint hint)

Oh I entirely agree - of course goodies do tend to push the price up a bit - hence why a special edition would be so important :D

I'm prepared to sell my first born son If they load the game with goodies! :D

Perhaps a Collector's Edition could include things such as

-Novella
-Galaxy Chart
-Ship Stats Chart
-Collector's code that when combined with "Reaching Elite" code, will give you a code to claim your Elite badge.

If this cost £10 or so more, it should easily cover the above.

Great site steve nice too see someone else who collectes these games, must say it's the first time I have ever seen a boxed Tatung Einstein ver of Elite.

There was some great stuff in the Infocom games,Origin was another company that went the extra mile in its box contents with the Wing Commander and Ulima games. And Origin own Elite like game,Space Rogue which has some great bits in it. like the cardboard ship models to build and a flyer for ingame arcade game which could be played on the space stations.as well as the novel and map.
