An epiphany about the 2020 mega update!

Guys, i was just soaking the bath, naked, getting wrinkly.... sorry, you didn't need that image.... and it came to me!

What are the contiuous headaches for FD in relation to ED?

Networking
Lack of offline mode
Open vs Solo debates/modes
Griefers, bots, combat loggers
PvP balance
Payouts for activities (amount of grind)
Complaints about story/lack of story/hand of FD
Lack of certain languages (translations)
and more...

And what major changes could FD be working on that would eliminate, or shift the responsibility for those to the players? What could take so long that they have to wait so long to release it all, rather than release it bit by bit?

The answer is simple!

FD are changing how the game works fully. They are plainning on shutting down the central servers, instead adding the ability for people to play either solo or run their own servers. They will provide the ability for hosters to choose between dedicated servers or use the P2P/C-S hybrid system or go full P2P and lose some of the client/server features like server side mission generation. Ability for saves to be client or server side. Ability to mod the game, both in terms of settings, and things like ships (FD can't put the X-wing in game, but players could), the option to set up what sort of server you have, whether PvP is allowed or not, to manage who can access your server, change mission payouts, change how different features work, whether you want Thargoids or not and whether they will damage stations, how much it will take to repair those stations, and story creation tools and galnet entries. Plus of course, all text in your own language, no matter what language you speak. Players who want to host an open only server could also do that, although modes wouldn't really be required with this. Any grefers turn up on your server, edit their save file every time they get any credits and put them back in a Sidewinder. Not enough, give them a fixed paintjob of something not flattering, and modify their engines so they are limited to a max speed of 1. Laugh as they get shot by station security while trying to exit the station for loitering. Combat loggers could be kicked as well. You could name stations and planets whatever you wanted!

Overnight this would shut down some of the most contentious issues for FD, allowing them to focus on delvering new content, such as atmospheric worlds, life on planets, space legs, etc, and reduce their operating costs significantly.

A genius move by FD!

Can't wait for 2020!

Fdev will never make 100% of ED players happy with 100% of anything they do.
If Fdev tried to address every camp of complaint, nothing will get done by 2020.
No game is perfect, every game has its community of detractors.
The Beyond Season was an attempt by Fdev to address game design improvements and QOL features...(people still complained).
We should have got Fleet carriers and changes to Powerplay, but Fdev created sub forums for the community to comment and feed back on these... what happened..? complaints, partisan poltics and deadlock. The features where held back from the 3.3 update. (coincidence, maybe?)

Season 4 will be what it is and i sometimes wonder if Fdev are doing the right thing by keeping quiet about what they have planned for it.
I have no doubt any ideas presented will cause divide and controversy over the coming years leaving them, the games designers unsure on how to proceed without setting off one group or the another.

FD asked for feedback and got it.. I think it's a stretch to suggest that feedback was responsible for an announced feature (Fleet Carriers) to be pulled..
Power Play changes were only touted and no timescale or guarantee of changes were given.. still would be nice to have some feedback from FD on where they stand with this after all this time.

Not pulled, delayed.

Essentially, all ships will be directed to an ELW, plow through the atmosphere, suddenly controls go out 20 feet above the ground, ship crashes. You wake up, thrown to the side of your chair, amazed that you aren't bolted to it, get up, grab your weapon, find it has gone dead, no power. Same for the entire ship's systems. You have to crank the hatch open by hand.

You step on the ground and notice a group of people nearby, staring at you. "What manner of man or beast be ye?" one asks. "I'm a human from Earth." you reply. "Human, eh?" replies a rough, burly looking guy with a very long sword. "Look guys," he says laughing to his friends, "It's another one." They all begin to laugh at you. "Where am I?" you ask.

"Ye be smack in the middle of the land of Azeroth" comes the reply. "How are ye with a sword? Or did you think that little thing in your hand was supposed to shoot unicorns at your enemies?" He turns to his friends and continues "Come on you lot. Let's take this poor thing to the inn where the rest of his friends are hold up. Must have been a game gone crashing and dumped this lot upon our shoulders."

I can see it's going to be a while before I get the elements needed to power the ship and get out of here.

About halfway through this post I was expecting the next line to be coming to in a cart as someone says "hey you, you're finally awake..."

Sure.

Sure...

It might shut down their contentious issues, but at the same time it will shut down the game permanently. Editing people save files means instant God mode.
