Change pre-3.3 First Discovered Tags to First Visited

It would have been great had this been so, if only to know just when some of the 'outlying' systems I have visited were first discovered, it tweaks my curiosity when I happen upon a discovered system in the middle of nowhere... and it is always just the one, I think the only time I've ran into a series of the same name discovered is when eco-jumping to a set destination over 'well travelled' paths :)

I think there is a huge amount of human interest in when things were discovered or done - any mountaineering history book is filled with first ascent dates etc, and it's no different for historical activity in general. It would also be nice to know how "hot" the trail you are following is, i.e was the pilot who tagged this object only a day or two in front of you, or has no one been here for months or even years?

Econo-mode for the absolute win on travelled paths :) Out of curiosity, you weren't on the Bubble -> Heart and Soul nebulae route when you ran into a series of same name discoveries, were you? There is a slim chance it was me :) :D

I've been sneaking up to Colonia & Abyssal Plain via the Western Neutron Field, with a trip to Sag A* before coming back to Jameson for some ship buying... That said I'll be heading that way soon so will keep my eyes peeled :) It'd be quite fun to run across 'names' I know from here - the only one I've seen so far is Jackie's out in the 'black'.

What is your game CMDR name for your discoveries?

You haven't run into Alintnil or Marx yet??

I am Commander Wraxall, should you come across any of his calling cards :) o7

I did an econo-mode trip from about the LBN nebula onwards until within about 200 ly of Farsight base. It was slow going, but I'd all but achieved Elite by the time I got there :) I went off to the Crab Nebula after mooching around Heart and Soul for a while.

I think I have run into Alitnil - but certainly not marx (surprisingly) or even Drew Carnegie (all with lots of firsts) as I'd remember those :)

Now I'm trying to remember if I'd seen your good self as being a 'place' name just a few miles from my home it might stick in my head! I'll keep my eyes open during my travels.

While I do agree with this, I can see the UI getting more cluttered.

Is it necessary, not really, would it be nice to have, sure. Personally I don't feel my previous discoveries have been devalued because of the FSS. Different times, different values. If I see a first discovered by from some one else, I don't sit there wondering if they used the old way or the new way. Makes little difference to me.

You'd have fun if you ran into any of my systems, Max - pre-3.3 most of my 'new' systems were fully scanned, post-3.3 all of them get the treatment. Only a few escaped in the old days, normally when it was at the end of the day and a 200K+ Ls journey didn't attract me :)

Edit: sorry, misread your comment! (i.e. speed reading is bad!)

Perhaps the tag could show the discovery date on the Sysmap? That information would differentiate between pre & post 3.3 'discoveries'...

I like this idea. I also like the idea of a cash reward as i would get rich over night. I used to do the 30 min+ journeys to go get the stuff others couldnt be bothered to.

Me too :) A few secondary/tertiary star systems have rat-tracks all over them from the old way!

Changes were made to exploration as lots of people were complaing "it's not worth it"

So it was changed to encourage others to explore. This resulted in exploration being changed for the whim of people who didn't explore to make it "worth it". The new system is not for explorers for exploring. The mechanic is for non explorers to explore.

It's now about credit generation, nothing to do with exploration.

I'd disagree slightly explorers still explore the new tools make it easier but easier for all.

You COULD say your attitude is one of snobbery. I've been out to Sag A* and Colonia doing a "tourist run" where for much of it (coming home) I couldn't even face honking.

The first discovered tag includes a date (I think, I'm not on my game) so you CAN still have the knowledge you had to do it uphill both ways in the snow whereas kids today don't know they're born!

I beg to differ. I explored before and used the old mechanics for 3 years. I hated it. The new mechanics are better for exploration for me. I get much more enjoyment from it. I get to discover stuff myself instead of having it handed to me on a plate. I do find that POIs are too easy to find though. They went for a boring turgid experience of using the MK1 eyeball to having them given to you.

What a load of tripe.

I disagree - some may still explore but the mandrolic nature of the new mechanics puts some off exploring - overall

Assuming this is true, then that is fair and reasonable (and changing the nature of the tag should be relatively easy to do) BUT when the FSS was first released formally there was none of my exploration data preserved. Not rechecked recently.

Yes and no, I disagree it has nothing to do with exploration but agree that the changes were at least a tad whimsical in nature - complete removal of the ADS mechanics for example.

That was a required part of a brilliant upgrade though, out with the old and in with the new.
