ED Nominated for Evolving Game BAFTA

Jesus this thread sucks to read.

Oh well, I was hoping they would win.

I personally think they have come a long way. We all know what I want with the open only stuff.

But they have really improved from where it started with a lot of other things, Especially over the past couple of years. Its a shame people cant see or understand the evolution of the game over the years and why.

When Fdev grows, Elite will grow with it.

This game has a lot of longevity. 10 year plan? More like 25 with the way hardware and technology is becoming more available to us and them.

I'll still give them some crap over certain decisions, as will any of us. But this thread sucks to read haha.
Holy godmother of spaghetti!
That90skid wrote a post I agree with!

You've gotta admit that some of the salty comments are entertaining; similar to how clowns in a circus do stupid things for our amusement.

I guess a lot of it is down to jealousy and/or bitterness that FDev's efforts were recognised and rewarded by such a distinguished institution (congrats to FDev again!)

Its been like that for 2 1/2 years for me HAHA!!!!

Oh come on, I'm sure there's also room for fair criticism.

Would that award honor the game's full life cycle, or is this an annual thing? Because I honestly don't think Elite was the best/most evolving game of 2018/2019. And I say that without hate or bitterness.

The 2020 update will most likely make Elite a stronger contender or maybe even the favorite.

Well.. They weren't actually recognised by any distinguished institution now were they? Someone paid £76 to nominate.... Was it you? :)

I have no problem with people feeling E:D deserved to win, it's great title. Personally, I don't think they did enough, or, that the game has 'evolved' enough to win anything. NMS on the other hand has been clearly making a difference. That's not to say it's a better game (personal choice) but, there is no denying, that NMS have added lots of content and continue to do so. Frontier, (personal opinion) seem to me to in to make paint job sales and are riding the playerbase for those funds. I cannot think of any other title where the publisher's best outlook was a 2 year hiatus, with absolutely no idea as to what is being worked on.

Maybe if we ask BAFTA to add a 'most paintjobs' category?

Here's my outlook... They're [frontier] looking for a way to join JP and ED.. Elite Dangerous: DInosaur Edition

Yes, I think the effort that FDev put in would have put that Elite over every other game in that category, except for Fortnight. As much as we love Elite, it's not the Internet craze that Fortnight is. Elite hasn't made the cultural impact that Fortnight has (Don't see kids doing funky Elite Dance moves do you?), nor has Elite made the same level of cash (Although I bet FDev would have loved it, if it had). Although when I watched the Twitch stream, the amount of people in the chat who said 'Elite? Is that still going?' was quite telling, so it's something to remind people that Elite is still there.

Personally, can't stand fortnight. Hate to see my son play it but you can't take away the fact it's been the biggest thing in gaming for the last 12 months with plenty of updates, even though they're mostly superficial.

i think the problem with Elite in todays gaming era is, that Elite was built on the back of a 1984 title, which in it's day was groundbreaking, most of all for it's 3D wire frame graphics. Let's face it, having a trillion stars/systems to visit pales into insignificance, if the chance of you being able to visit them, is negligible.

Frontier added an immensely satisfying and amazing Graphical UI, but, what's underneath, is a mish-mash of ideas, in the main, badly buggy and annoying. And for me, that's where Frontier fail so badly. Bad integration but worse, buggy code, and then, as a developer myself knowing, that building new code on top og buggy code is going to lead to a mess. And so it has turned out to be.

I can't help but feel, that Elite would be such a better game, if they made if more accessable, and more story driven. Reduced the grind element, and made it so there were lots more ship variations.

But maybe that's why I'm not a game designer? :D :D

A modern remake of the 1984 game with some extra multiplayer bells and whistles is exactly what I wanted and also what they were selling luckily for me.

Indeed! I totally get that! But to appeal to the masses, there has to be constant fun and engagement. We/you/I could argue that Online mode is the 'engagement' factor, but where frontier fail, is in the acknowledging that many many players want interaction with others, but not at the cost of their expo data. trade goods. ships etc. There needs to be consentual PvP. Some players like to build armadas of ships. We need a lot more variations, in looks and themes. We need to have reasons to visit systems, and here, I mean, special modules, special ships, special somethings. Visiting to look at the 'pretty colours' gets old very fast.

Again, I re-iterate, this is my opinion, and I totally agree, not to everyone, or indeed, anyone else's liking :D

Its a niche genre, the masses would be happier never getting into it. Back in the early 90's the demographic was different most people had joysticks and were into star wars and we had the golden age of space games (or more of them anyway). But it just isn't that way anymore as gaming is available to more people (a good thing) more of whom fit the niche, but as a smaller percentage of all gamers overall as more people are gaming.

Pure speculation on my part.
