Supercruise Assist, Netflix & Chill

And which significant task would you do in the meantime? Polish some handles? Sort some cargo? File your tax return?
Come on people, this is still a game. You wouldn't want to do everyday tasks on a regular basis.
How about reading Galnet or the Codex or using the FSS?

How do you know what caters to my needs?! :D
I believe you completely missed the point.

Velixar did the exact same thing to me in a previous thread. He keeps going on about the stations and ignoring all other distant stellar objects. He also refuses to consider that explorers may want to visit any body for any number of reasons, regardless of the distance.

There’s nothing to suggest that the current rate of acceleration and top speed of supercruise are optimal for the game, but some people defend them as if they were written in stone by some galactic deity. I think the speed of travel in supercruise could stand to be increased somewhat.

I'm all for the new modules, but it just made me wonder whether the motivation of the developers in the case of the Supercruise Assist function was to make it more convenient for those players who like to have Netflix or some other diversion running while they wait out their travel times.

That's not a bad thing, as the need for a diversion is a function of the supercruise mechanic itself, and not the new automation module. So as long as supercruise continues to function as it does, the module is at least a mitigating factor that eases multitasking.

I do hope that it's an interim plan though, as going forward I'd much rather some meaningful in-ship activities that can be accomplished en route, or an alternate supercruise travel mode that balances increased risk, difficulty, and costs, for a reasonable reduction in travel time, which I've talked about more on the Suggestions forum.
What happens when I set course for the station, get it lined up to perfection, engage the new supercruise assist, go drain the lizard and come back to find ive been interdicted and had the entire gold stash taken by thieving would be pirates arrrrrghh ... im looking forward to all the new features but I did wonder about this interdiction and assist..

I would like to see the speeds increased

That’s a pertinent question. I think though that it’s probably just going to be the same as it is now if you’re AFK. It’s a risk each player has to judge.

Consider it like if you could get up and go to your sleeping cabin in the ship while on a long supercruise trip. You’d have to get up and run to the cockpit if you get interdicted. It makes sense in my opinion to implement it that way.

[/QUOTthen I must insist that we have the ability to by a BORG cloaking device lol.. DEVS - BORG Cloaking Device Please .. im kidding obviously.. although it would be cool

I have a feeling the Supercruise Assist is just the first step in a long journey towards space legs.
I'll be using it for REAL legs. Jump into a system with a 10 minute SC, set the AP, get out of my REAL chair, walk around, do some cleaning in my "ship", etc.

I very much welcome these new tools. It lets me progress from Sulu to Kirk, and the next time some faction says, "Commander, what do you actually command?" I'll have an answer for him!

Now we just need to see our NPCs sitting in those empty seats, and then I'll really feel like Kirk! Though that will require a pretty yeoman standing over my shoulder as well :D

Have you ever played the game "Warframe"?

Because if you did you would understand what I was trying to say.

Fun fact: the immediate predecessors to this game had an autopilot where you could click a button and it would take off, put you into on course to your chosen destination and land you. The only intervention was engaging the Stardreamer time control and dealing with an interdiction.

In short: get over it. It's had it before and it is coming again.

Also a fun fact... They were single player games :p

another fun fact... they had full Newtonian flight which was a heck of a lot harder to navigate than in ED but that's ok, feel free to pick your own fun facts for a bad argument....

The only thingI hope they add to this supercuise control is auto interdiction submission with a long FSD cool down so at least you can gank the afk'ers easier.

Example on a current long (in system) trade run -

Never been on a SC trip long enough to watch a show on netflix, that is hutton orbital territory.
I don't think he was planning on a long video...
The title is Netflix and (ahem) "chill"...
Good job I wasn't drinking coffee when I read the tread title...

Ummm, submission to interdiction gives you a regular cool down. I think what you want is for AP to ignore the interdiction, lose, and then your target gets a long FSD cool down by default.

I'm more worried about NPC interdictions, which happen with surprising frequency, than I am player interdictions. On the other hand, one can argue that every convenience should come with a cost.

Elite just got a little less dangerous.

Soon it'll be called Elite: Slightly more dangerous than an pink ball of fluff...

Less dangerous? Now commanders will point at Hutton and be like "Well, I'm going to get a beer and make a pizza" and then return with their cold beer and hot pizza to the re-buy screen.

I'd be afraid of being sucked out of supercruise by someone and destroyed while I was in the shower or something, losing my ship and cargo.
