I just unlocked the Corvette without grinding ranks!

That's helpful, many thanks!

Seriously though it is a valid point. However, I do think having a target in mind for different things makes the game more fun for me. For example, for the first time I'm getting into combat because it's the last one I need to make triple Elite. It's sort of fun.

On the other hand sometimes I like just wandering off into the expanse to see what I can see with no real aim at all. Best not listen to me!

Honestly, it only took me a month or two of dedicated grinding a couple hours a night to get it. It wasn't super fun, but that's what Netflix is for...

Since my CMDR was a Post Captain well before there was any such thing as a Federal Corvette, unlocking it was trivial. Took a lot more time to get the credits than the ranks.

The method is quite easy.

Simply play the game normally for 3 years, with a total play time of 13 weeks, 23 hours and 2 minutes and hey presto! You will, as a side effect of regular gameplay, reach rear admiral without having to grind.

Hope this helps. ;)

Yep, that's exactly what I did.

Works a treat. (y)

My Corvette came mostly from regular play, however, when I was in the mood to do missions, I just made sure I did federation missions.

It's a shame I still don't like it.
I prefer my Anaconda in every way. Lol

A likely story! Everyone knows it's not possible to play the game without grind, just look at all the forum threads about it! ;-) I've been playing since beta and based on forum comments i'm pretty sure there must have been grind along the way, though i can't say I actually noticed....

^ This!!!! I’m having same! :)

Like a true capitalist, I bought the rank. I mean it was honorarily bestowed upon me for the great amount of community works I performed.

I am still only duke or something like that after years, but one day I will get the right to by that iShip ... will be nice in the garage next to the other iShips, collecting dust :)

Corvette I got after roughly 1.5 years, also without grinding, though I did donate money if the station had any opportunities ... you know, to help the filthy federals out a bit.

I did the grind to get my Sol permit, then stopped. But my rank carried on up to Ensign just doing stuff.

With the Empire, I aimed for Duke and got the Cutter, but "upward drift" after that has made me a King, which is a bit embarrassing for a reclusive Howard Hughes type.

The Corvette is now the one ship I can't buy (two if you count the Cobra IV), so I guess I'll have to put some work in eventually.

They really should just make the Cobra mk IV available to everybody. I mean it's nothing special anyway, I never even fly mine, but it still should be available to those that want it.

I don't think I've played any game for 3 years in my life.
There's slow burn, then there's ridiculous.
I'm glad it only took me a year or so, and that I actually genuinely enjoy passenger missions and rescue missions.
I've played tonnes of games for longer than 3 years, maybe you've just not found games you like enough? Or i might just be showing my age! Forgetting mobile phone games and things like tetris. scrabble and pacman, i've played original elite, Doom, Quake, Everquest (1 and 2), Counterstike, WoW., Star Wars Galaxies and Elite Dangerous over multiple years, to name a few. It doesn't have to be continuous play but a healthy break can make games feel really fun again i think! I look forward to many more years of ED too!
