A question: Are you a lone flyer or do you move with friends?
Too many external factors to enable socialising - work, dog, wife, kids etc. And the PS4 is plugged into the main lounge TV.
My time playing ED is limited and all over the place so I couldn't commit to scheduled meets or joint expeditions.
Real world socialising takes priority, so I only play ED in solo.

Solo mode only for me so...yup lone wolf by default!
Definitely lone wolf..... at one time have over 100 friends but most of them would never talk or engage with me so I dumped them. Never been happier.
Also joined another group but then found out that I had to "immerse" myself into their game play and subject myself to someone else's actions or demands. Now, I grew up as an Alaskan.... independent, free and totally in control of my situations while in towns or in the woods. That is what I love about this game... I can say "HI" and acknowledge other commanders but they have no say other than to reply back.

Interesting thread. I didn't expect so many solo/lone wolf responses, but I guess I should have, it's a game about going far, far off the beaten path, after all.
I guess that's what drew me to ED also; I wish I could go somewhere far, far from society but that's harder to do than you would think.

Mostly alone in Open, but over the last day or so I’ve been winging up with the wife in Mobius to take on Pirate Activity Threat 7s. Much fun.

This thread makes me sad 
I know some might not want to but I wish all of you could experience the game the way I have.
I have lots of friends in this game that I do everything with and it's mostly because of them that I keep coming back to the game.
I hope you all eventually find your own group of miscreants like I have, if that's what you're after.

I play in open, I do play with you. You just never find me
I at least o7 every Cmdr I spot if I have time.
I play mostly alone, some interactions with my friends list (which is less than 5) occasionally, but mostly alone.
No problem, I'm sociable enough and enjoy those 'join-ups' as the fun they are, but as primarily playing as a tourist there are few contacts way out in the black.
I found it good fun doing the Explorer's Anchorage CG as, even though I was still playing alone - despite being in Mobias - there was almost continual system chat keeping me amused.

I socialize within my squadron on Inara and Discord, but ingame I'm lonewolfing most of the time. Exceptions only occur if an ad hoc wing forms that has the same goal at the same time.
I'm always solo, for a number of reasons.
In terms of Elite Dangerous specifically, the Elite games have always been a solo experience and for me that's always been part of the attraction. The solo pilot against the galaxy idea.
In more general terms I just don't like playing video games with real people. I play other games with real people, board games, card games, etc. Video games for me are usually more about immersing myself in a particular world and I invariably find that other human players break that.
In addition, I'm on console so I'd have to pay to play multiplayer games anyway which makes them even less attractive.

Another mostly alone type here, I have a small/short friends list (also mostly independent types) for rare meetups - which only happen when doing the same thing, at the same time, in the same place e.g. DW2 [however this is not a regular example] Same as everybody else really.
It's been said that 'Space is Big/huge/enormous...' pick one. The bubble is tiny but huge, Cmdr's spread thin across it.
RL is complicated and REAL, It doesn't like 'gametime' and constantly tries to shut it down/reduce it to a bare minimum. Makes it hard for 'strangers' to come together to make/form and keep remote friendships, so mostly alone. (Still fighting for the right to party)

I'd love to know how many are in this boat. I was there all winter, and Labrunning is there now. I do enjoy competitive multiplayer games (which ED isn't IMO), so I finally paid to renew my PSN+ (on sale), but I was very reluctant. I love consoles for many reasons, but the multiplayer tax is not one...
I've been playing multiplayer games since they were invented and more and more I find I prefer to play solo in an open world - you folks are the "content" to me. I don't want to be forced into "grouping" with anyone, but don't want to be in a solely pve world. Lucklily for me that's the way games have been going for some time - mainly because you guys are cheaper than good AI

When I first started playing I used to really enjoy scouting the bubble for systems that provided unusually high profits or navy ranking, then I’d post a report over in the newcomers forum and sit back watching the system traffic increase as CMDRs from all over flowed in for a party. For me, that was really rewarding gameplay, knowing that I’d helped a bunch of players out...
That was back in the days when we all had to actually work for our credits though and getting a Python was a big deal...

Like the mode I play, "Solo". I never know when I'm going to play. Sometimes I go weeks without playing. I would be a very undependable group player.
